April 12, 2007 at 13:09 #50929Quote: from Blue Shark on 11:51 pm on April 11, 2007[br]2:00 Aintree –JOHN SMITH’S LIVERPOOL HURDLE GRADE 2 (CLASS 1)
Small but classy field for this stayers race, which see’s the likes of last years top novice Black Jack Ketchum looking to atone for a disappointing fall in the World Hurdle at Cheltenham last month. World Hurdle winner Inglis Drever also takes to the field, as does runner up Mighty Man, third placed Blazing Bailey and a couple of others in Fire Dragon and Lough Derg. The race will be set up by Fire Dragon making the pace and he should set a decent enough clip on his favoured conditions. Inglis Drever looks to be better suited to a galloping track, so Aintree shouldn’t really play to his strengths. Mighty Man on the other hand has excellent course form (2 runs, 2 wins), and running so bravely last time up gets his favourite flat track here. Last year he won this very race comprehensively smashing My Way De Solzen (Previous World Hurdle winner). Black Jack Ketchum has a lot to prove to his loyal followers but I don’t think he’ll be able to beat Mighty Man tomorrow. Blazing Bailey looks just a class short of winning this, but he should run his usual race.
Advice: 2pts Win – Mighty Man

:) Not too far Richard!
April 12, 2007 at 13:13 #50930Fantastic performance by the winner. A bit understated by the Beeb. If Black Jack had won like that they’d be going mad.
BJK didn’t get home for me and the track didn’t suit Inglis Drever.
You probably will find better lays TDK, but guessing a horses ability against horses of proven ability ain’t the way to go imhaho
I would totally agree with the above
April 12, 2007 at 13:59 #50933I think in fairness that Black Jack ran well and he did stay also in my opinion. I just think he is one of those sorts that is very generous to his jockey and so he will always be tanking along. They can fool a jockey into thinking theres loads left when clearly the horse is already putting the maximum in.

April 12, 2007 at 19:39 #50934A fine performance by the winner, he really likes Aintree.
BJK still doesn’t stay 3 miles
April 12, 2007 at 20:33 #50935I didnt think he stayed either but a excellent paced ride by RJ i thought
April 12, 2007 at 20:41 #50936As a three mile cheltenham winner, BJK did certainly stay todays race..which looked like they didnt go much of a gallop. He also ran on well enough to beat Inglis drever. He just wasnt entitled on form to beat the winner on the form he had previously shown.
I suppose you could argue that he might be better at 2 and a half miles but i think a top class horse at that distance would turn him over also.

April 12, 2007 at 23:45 #50937I got todays ground as just on the faster side of Good, which goes along with the Going Stick readings given prior to racing
April 13, 2007 at 00:19 #50938Quote from tdk – "Yes indeed – still – think you will find better lays this season!"
If there are any that stand out more prominently than this one pre-race they’ll be few and far between.
April 13, 2007 at 08:48 #50939Frustrating for Might Man’s backers in the stayers that Johnson gives him such an aggressive ride yesterday when he was totally out ridden by Brennan at the festival.
April 13, 2007 at 11:07 #50940So how did the race unfold then? I didn’t see the race and can’t watch it online due to the comupter not being very good.
April 13, 2007 at 16:55 #50941Didn’t win though tdk, in fact it was beaten pointless. At the end of the day those who felt BJK was a cast iron lay were proven absolutely correct on this occasion, whichever way you spin it out.
April 17, 2007 at 09:44 #50942BJK is a bridle horse and did not stay, simple as that.
Its one thing winning a novice 3 miler against inferier rivals and quite another taking on the best 3 milers out there.
Having said that, i cant see him winning any race that requires him to battle, but 2 and a half miles seems his trip
April 17, 2007 at 10:04 #50943Thought one of the poorest decisions of the season even more so in hindsight was running BJK in the Relkeel in preference to the Bula.

April 17, 2007 at 10:50 #50944I agree, why they campaign him over 3 miles i dont know
