Thankyou to Thehorsesmouth and Carvillshill for putting me right about the track.
December 29, 2009 at 13:39 #266215Hard to get too excited by that.
Joncol is the one to take out of the race for the future.
Poor Grade One. None of them will trouble Kauto come March.
December 29, 2009 at 13:40 #266217Haven’t seen the replay yet but really chuffed to see Money Trix run well. Wonder if he made one of his blunders part way round? Glad to see Sam win a big race as well.
December 29, 2009 at 13:50 #266221Shocker by the Irish Brigade there….
I feel embarressed but to be honest Joncol ran a cracker and maybe if he has not missed the 3rd last it would have been a different result. Still Only 6 and by far and away Irelands only Gold Cup Horse in a few years.
Cooldine was Kack but he was very free and hit nearly every fence.
Need to get some 3mile Chasers!!!!!!!!!

Mikeal D’Haganeut where are you!
December 29, 2009 at 14:01 #266222What A Freind pays Denman another huge compliment.

Niche Market gave the Hennessy form a real shot in the arm, too.
December 29, 2009 at 14:16 #266223If What a Friend is able to reverse Cheltenham running with Cooldine, il give up on this sport!!
PMSL
Why do people feel the need to make daft outlandish comments?
Bizarre. See you next time.
December 29, 2009 at 14:59 #266243I mentioned this elsewhere (betfair forum), but when Mullins was interviewed on ATR on Monday he said that he wouldn’t be surprised if Cooldine blew up. Given that comment, I was surprised that he was backed into favouritism yesterday. (I belong to the naive school, that believes that people say what they mean, and mean what they say.)

Seriously? It doesn’t matter how poorly or not Gone to Lunch and Niche Market ran the last couple of days, What a Friend and Barbers Shop have franked that form. End of story.
December 29, 2009 at 17:08 #266263Gutted as i thought Joncol would win that mistake cost him the race it did.

Hate when that happens. Backed him AP for the RSA and lost faith in him, should have known better

Have to agree with "H" a good boost for Denman. He looked for a few strides in the Henneessy like he was going to fly past Denman and then faltered but there was none of that today.
Great ride by Sam Thomas………."come on PN and HF let’s hear you eat some humble pie and say he rides Denman in the Gold Cup" Man wins a Gold Cup for you and you desert him….Boo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Whay about Money Trix? great to see him partly full fill the potential Nicky Richards said he had. When ‘s the last time a grey won the national? Bit more experience and you never know.
Now PN has Kauto Star, Denman and What a Friend going to fill the first 3 places in the Gold Cup do you think the bookies will have 2 separate books? One with them and one without them? Unless it comes up 6" deep in mud nothing we saw today would be bothering them.

Over 2m5f

I have to say i am surprised, given that Willie Mullins said he’d start over 2m. Perhaps he doesn’t want tohave to go straight from 2m to 3m for the RSA. Looks like the Arkle is off the menu!

Think Nicklaus Silver was last grey to win National in early sixties. Big run from the horse, who despite rising 10 is pretty inexperienced. He has never been out of the first two in his career so all credit to Richards. He needs soft ground and he’d have a major chance in the Irish Hennessy if given a more forceful ride.

I think its highly likely bookies will do this as it could be a decent market. Might be a win only market (ie finish 3rd behind big two) but could get some big priced ones as oftens happens in the race.
December 29, 2009 at 22:29 #266332Credit to Sam Thomas. I thought he done extremely well, and drained a lot out of himself in testing conditions. I enjoyed watching that.
December 30, 2009 at 00:27 #266369Thought about my previous quote, think il still keep a ‘passing’ interest in the sport, regardless of how galling it is to see such average horses battling it out for such a big prize. Very disappointing run by Cooldine, as the word was he was ready for this. I will say this though; Yet again it shows what a horse Denman is, even if Im not a fan of What a Friend. All this talk of Kauto Star being the best ever, just because he wins an egg and spoon race at Kempton is laughable. Denman showed in 2008 that Kauto can not live with a peak Denman, and that will be the case again come March. By the way, thats as good Joncol is, he wont improve anymore for that. On another subject, didnt Sublimity run well on totally unsuitable ground, after making a shocking mistake 4 out? I believe he may have won had he not made a bol**cks of that flight.
December 30, 2009 at 00:44 #266372Denman wouldnt have got near Kauto, and the ground was grand for Sublimity
December 30, 2009 at 01:32 #266375Denman wouldnt of gotten near Kauto?? Maybe at Kempton…Where else though?? Have u forgotten?? Last March, Denman came an amazing 2nd to Kauto after having had open-heart surgery. Strange as this sounds, that takes some getting over!?! Year before, when Denman was at his best, he wiped the floor with Kauto. Now, hes in all probability better than ever, and he will beat Kauto again. But your comment about soft-to-heavy being perfect for Sublimity takes the biscuit!!! So what ground did he win his Champion Hurdle on?? ANY clown is able to tell u that hes a good ground horse, and todays run was exceptional in the circumstances, especially as he lost about 3 lengths at that hurdle. I was at Leopardstown today, and the ground was dreadful. I really believe come March, Sublimity is THE each-way horse for the Champion. Hes almost certain to get more suitable ground, and like Go Native, will relish the much stronger pace of the race. Regarding the ground issue…Seriously, do your homework or ask around!!!!
