My Hennessy fancy Boston Bob jumped like a goat today and you can’t win Grade 1’s when you’re losing three or four lengths at your fences. I agree with David that we didn’t see the Gold Cup winner today.
Identity Thief drifted as much as I’ve seen a horse drift in a G1 in the Deloitte, and was beat crooked. Somebody knew he was going to run like a drain.
To say I was delighted with Apache Stronghold would be understating it, he made up the ground in the straight like a top class horse and held off Valseur Lido gamely. I said at the time I thought that the Don Poli / Apache Stronghold form would work out as top class and it’s great to see the Apache deliver today, reversing the form with his Drinmore conqueror. We’ve seen Kings Palace and Coneygree win this weekend but I don’t either will beat Don Poli in the RSA.
Salsify ran a cracker in the Hunters Chase and he’s top of my list for the Cheltenham Foxhunters now. Hopefully he’ll come out of this race in good shape.
