    Suedois 8/1 e/w

Ran very well last week behind Beat The Bank and back to this 7 could suit well going round a bend. Third top rated behind Tip To Win & Gustav Klimt, both hosses I’d want to take on.

Dutch Connection 12/1. Below par so far this season but comes alive at Goodwood (form reads 1,2,1,1).

Nothing at the top of the market greatly appeals, think DC is a cracking e/w bet.

Very tricky little event( think its 6LB covering the whole field on OR)

I will throw in D’Bai (EW) 10s is available. Back up to seven should be a plus, the John Of Gaunt form is ok (runner up winning a Group2) the underperforming Dutch Connection was back in 4th that day

Suedois formwise is probably the most interesting of the runners for me- it would seem however, he’ll need a little luck in running which he didn’t get last year. Drawn stall 8 isn’t the worse but not ideal.

One that really interests me is Spirit of Valor he’s drawn 1 and was drawn 10 last year, and wasn’t far behind in 10th (finished 4.75Ls behind with hampering). He races reasonably prominently and from his draw this should suit great. Have a look at his 7f form and he’s definitely in with a shout at the prices.

With Expert Eye heading for the Sussex I’m taking a big chance that SO BELOVED will run a good race here.
He is a horse just waiting to win a big race like this. Striking looking vey handsome character (and he knows it) who stands head and shoulders above other horses I would love nothing better than to cheer him home tomorrow.
Second to Sir Dancealot at Newmarket 30th June, I saw him run and he didn’t get the best of runs and was carried left going up the hill, next time at the Curragh he ran a brave 2nd to Larchmont Lad.
Goodwood should suit his style of running and he did win a Group 3 here, albeit it 3 years ago.

    Currently 16/1
    SO BELOVED – ew

    Good luck.. :good:

I’ve had one of my bigger bets on Tip Two Win e/w (4 places) for this. If he can hold his form he should take all of the beating and I’ll be a very upset chap if he doesn’t finish in the first 4 here.

Tip Two Win 5/1 (each-way first 4 with Paddy Power)

This looks an open race, very much up to standard on ratings, but several having important negatives to overcome. I like three.

Agree with both of those, Jack. Remember last year well, having backed Suedois at a massive price. Seems equally effective tracking pace or held up; suspect they’ll be somewhere near the front given coming back in trip. Most of those drawn inside are hold up horses, so it shouldn’t be too much of a problem. Came right back to his best behind Beat The Bank last time.

Doesn’t look to me as if there is much pace in the race. The horse I believe most likely to take advantage of that is Spirit Of Valor who could slow it down from the front before kicking on again in the straight. Outclassed in Group 1 company but has a good record in this grade. Stall 1 can be good, but can also be a coffin box for one that likes to race prominently if just a little slow away. Fingers crossed on that front, but this trip should suit. Despite the 8th wasn’t far behind stable companion US Navy Flag in July Cup and 14/1 too big to ignore. Other one I’ve backed – just in case it’s a truly run affair – is Sir Dancealot. Seemingly always under-estimated by the market! Taken off his feet early also in the July Cup, yet “stayed on” to be 4th. Only 2 3/4 lengths behind US Navy Flag and around the same in front of Spirit Of Valor. SD coming from further back in the field than all who beat him. At seven furlongs could outclass most of these… As long as he gets the run of the race and/or course doesn’t cause a problem. Disappointed as favourite in last year’s Stewards Cup and a big horse who’s not raced around a bend very often.

Want to take on the only three year old Tip Two Win. Got the best form but trainer Roger Teal was in particularly good form at the time of the 2000 Guineas. Disappointed in St James’s Palace and isn’t sure to be as good coming back to 7f for the first time this year.

If I could get the 10/1 Dbai would have a saver on him. Stable still going well. Does need to come back from a disappointing run in what was probably a substandard Golden Jubilee. Before that run was in good form.

Last year’s Lennox had a substandard winner in Breton Rock, who probably only won because better fancied horses went too fast too soon. Doesn’t look as much pace here and needs the rain too, as do the Balding pair – last year’s Sussex winner Here Comes When and Donjuan Triumphant… Along with the horse who beat the latter fairly impressively last time out – Emmaus. Neither DT or E have run since April, probably waiting for softer ground. Emmaus could be interesting if getting it – still lightly enough raced to improve. Here Comes When is eight now and yet to prove he’s trained on, but must be remembered he’s a Goodwood specialist. Not one to dismiss if getting his ground. Donjuan Triumphant seems to need it very soft these days.

Dutch Connection likes to hear his hooves rattle, more consistent on a firm surface. As Pants rightly says, has a very good record at Goodwood, including in this race, winning in 2015 and under a length second in 2016. Ran well first time up this season too, 50/1 fourth in Lockinge. But in truth dissapointing since – as has the yard been generally this season – although signs of a revival recently. Suspect they’ll drop him out from a poor draw and hope for a good run through. Might be one to take notice of only if there’s a positive market move – 12/1 being poor value on recent form, but 10/1 or 9/1 would look very good value on best form.

So Beloved has bits of form that give him a chance, including 3/4 length second to Acclaim in the Foret over this trip last year. But that’s him. Probably suited these days by exaggerated waiting tactics, the words never nearer made for him. Rarely getting his head in front. Just a short head further back in that Group 1 race was Karar. French horse also only beaten around 2 lengths in Breeders cup mile. Obviously has a good chance on that form, but yet to hit the same heights this term, with 4th place in two Group 3’s.

Am on Suedois at over 7/1, Spirit of Valor 14/1 and Sir Dancealot 11/2. Around 15/8 combined odds.

Ginge that comment on Dutch Connection was down to Pants, I’m in the So Beloved camp tomorrow hoping he will run a little nearer the pace than usual. Have you ever seen him in the flesh? He is a magnificent horse to look at and I just got the feeling he is starting to enjoy his racing again as can happen to a lot of horses his age, so it’s fingers well and truly crossed for a good run.

Nice write up Ginge :good: …Enjoy a wonderful 5 days racing and best of luck everyone..Jac :rose:

Realised my mistake when reading it back, Jac. :good:
Stopped going racing a year or two ago, but So beloved is old enough for me to have seen him. From what I remember is indeed a rangy sort with good conformation. Although imo carries his head a bit high.

I’ve been saying since before even the 2000 Guineas that this is a weak crop of 3 year old milers.

That being said, if Tip Two Win was trainer by a bigger name, he’d be half the price he is now. The 5/1 was enough to tempt me in for an interest.

With more rain overnight than expected have now had a 15/2 saver on Emmaus. :mail:

Am on the same two, Jack and am not too concerned for both Suedois and Spirit Of Valor. Both seem to act with a bit of give; as long as they don’t get any more. Only negative being the rain has brought more horses in to play. Both could have positional advantage here.
