Did all the horses return safely, Paul?

As far as I am aware Colin – the horse ambulance did not move anywhere all afternon and I think I counted them all home.
The horses seemed to like the beach – watching some of the runners exercising in the water before racing was a delight.
September 12, 2008 at 12:17 #180571Thanks, Paul, good news.
I remember watching the racing from Laytown a couple of years back and there were a couple of broken legs, if I recall correctly.
Can’t bring myself to watch the racing there now.

September 12, 2008 at 12:24 #180573Ironic little touch from irish-racing.com – the beach is officially at Standard going.

Going – Standard. Weather – Overcast"
September 12, 2008 at 12:42 #180578" sort of day for soggy notes and, in my case, an almost wrecked laptop – finally managed to get it dried out using a hand dryer at Dublin airport – hopefully it will still be working in the morning…….It was easy to spot the racegoers at the airport coming home – they were the ones with the dirty shoes and the splash marks up the backs of the legs.
All in all a great day out."
PS I love it!September 12, 2008 at 20:40 #180675In the days before AW racing and AW gallops, when you had a really big long freeze it was usually worthwhile backing horses on the resumption who’d been able to get some beach gallops in.
I think Ryan Price used to do this.
If you want to see a horse working on "real" sand, and also how not to park your car on a beach, watch this clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrTfGguM_WM
September 12, 2008 at 21:54 #180700Beautiful clip V, thanks.
September 12, 2008 at 22:14 #180707Agree lovely film – hadn’t realised just how close to the horses the riders are in those traps – not the most pleasant place to sit

I wonder if the driver of the car is the same guy driving the ambulance at Laytown yesterday?
September 13, 2008 at 01:01 #180734Love watching Laytown, Something really speical about it and great to see Nina ride a double their.
Wonder why we dont give it a go over here with Blackpool,Southport and many other places to choose from as regards coastal towns.
I for one would certainly go
Nearest you might get would be the flapping meetings held in the Scottish Borders during summer at places like Langholm, Hawick, Selkirk and Kirkpatrick Flemming. Some of them have quite a history being attached to the annual Common Ridings (especially at Langholm and Hawick). There is also the Marymass Races on Town Moor, Irvine which is a short walk from the old Bogside racecourse in Ayrshire.
There is a website for the Langholm Horse Racing Association but you will have to google it as I don’t have it. Flapping was probably the first racing I ever went to as I grew up in Langholm and my family were great Common Riding people especially my late father.
