Sadly broke down in the 2.40 at Fairyhouse in the race won by Honeysuckle. Horrible injury.
November 28, 2021 at 14:51 #1569608One of the worst injuries I have seen for a long time. Condolences to his connections.
Nice of RTV to show a reverse angle shot of the finish where you could clearly see the distressed Latest Exhibition in the background. A shocking editorial misjudgment.
November 28, 2021 at 14:53 #1569609Fantastic bit of work from Racing TV showing the replay with Latest Exhibition panicking in the background, leg swinging around before falling to the floor.
November 28, 2021 at 14:55 #1569610I just saw that too, it was horrific. Seeing the poor horse so distressed and then going down, it was just awful.
November 28, 2021 at 15:01 #1569612Someone from RTV really should apologise. That is not the usual angle so someone has decided to show it. They should have at least checked before it was broadcast. Very poor.
November 28, 2021 at 15:08 #1569615RTE managed to show it three times. Awful.
November 28, 2021 at 15:15 #1569618That won’t take long until it’s uploaded on YouTube or somewhere else.
Well done to Gary O’Brien who always knows how to deal with such situations. Never raises his voices and his first thoughts are always about the horse and it’s connections.
May he rest in peace
I also hope that people stop complaining about fences not being stiff enough. Such an incident that happened on the flat part of the race is just as bad as a fatal fall after jumping an obstacle.
November 28, 2021 at 15:19 #1569620Such a sad end for a very good racehorse. My thoughts are with his connections.
Out of interest, does anyone know how stricken horses are put to sleep? I can remember the old days where the green screen would be erected and you’d hear a single shot crack; that was not very nice. I assume it’s an injection now.
November 28, 2021 at 15:35 #1569629I didn’t see the incident but, from what some have described, it sounded horrific.
RIP. Sad day for connections.
November 28, 2021 at 15:54 #1569638They’ve gone and done it in the last race too, Baba Buck’s broke down on the flat couldn’t help themselves showing it in a replay.
November 28, 2021 at 16:12 #1569644This is dreadful for all concerned.
Poor horse. I do hope an apology is forthcoming and it makes me sick that some people will be uploading this on Social Media.R.I.P Latest Exhibition ⚘
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...November 28, 2021 at 16:25 #1569649Horrible incident. But what has stiff fences got to do with it? Sometimes you conflate too many arguments…

It was another thread in which some people moan about the fences not being stiff enough. Why would you need stiffer fences when you get such horrible accidents even after jumping a small hurdle?
November 28, 2021 at 16:59 #1569656Absolutely heartbreaking to hear

November 28, 2021 at 17:13 #1569660But still. We have speculated about the (perceived) increase in racehorses breaking legs whilst simply galloping and whether this could be due to overbreeding or the modern (national hunt) racehorse being more fragile.
Having watched horse racing from childhood, the modern-day fences are definitely less stiff, which in light of the above is probably a good thing. Nevertheless, as Ascot, Cheltenham, Newbury, Fairyhouse and Punchestown demonstrate, the fences are plenty stiff enough.
But if you watch racing at Taunton, the complaint about fence stiffness has some validity.
November 28, 2021 at 17:25 #1569663With respect SP why not start a Thread in Horse racing, this Thread is in memory of Latest Exhibition and sadly it’s all to late for him now.
