I’ve had a couple of unsuccessful goes at this race in the past.
Haven’t looked at the other runners, but I quite like Pusey Street Girl, despite the doubts about her class, the trip, the going and the course.
Came 2nd in the Cammidge – I’m taking that at face value as an improvement in form.
Said to like flat tracks – but there is very little evidence that she dislikes undulating ones.
Most form is at 6f, but she ran well in the Gosforth Park Sprint last summer.
Most form is on softer ground, but it was officially Gd to Fm for the Cammidge.
Finally, she is a proper horse, having come up via h’caps – rather than a pansy who has been kept to fillies conditions races.
Give me 20/1, and I’m on for a place.
April 27, 2009 at 00:00 #223794Whoops! I’m showing my age again. Pusey Street Lady, not Pusey Street Girl.
April 27, 2009 at 21:43 #223956Oh well, Pusey Street Lady is favourite.
I’m laying her then – she’s got everything against her, the distance, the ground, the track etc.

Just joking. Actually, the ground is now good.
I didn’t realise until yesterday that she is a half-sister to Mornin Reserves. I was on him when he won the Gosforth Park Sprint a few years ago. (I had given him a massive speed rating for his win at Hamilton the previous time out.)
April 28, 2009 at 02:35 #224018You’re right to keep stakes small – well, I am anyway!
The race to look forward to after this is the 6f Kilvington Listed Fillies Stakes, 3.30pm Nottingham, Saturday 9th May.
I thought in your original posting you were a little bit too dismissive of Prescott’s Starlit Sands. She was pulled up last season, not this. Surely she wouldn’t be running if everything wasn’t okay? Prescott is hardly known for having runners in April. She’s also come within 4 lengths of Overdose.

I’ve had a fiver on PSL, just for interest, and I’ll do the same on SS if there is a nice price going. I think I will definitely have a big bet on PSL if she runs in the 5f H’cap or 6f H’cap at the Dante meeting. (Flat track.)
Just for novelty, I’ll have a couple of Toteswinger bets, but I’m sure it will end in tears.
April 28, 2009 at 02:52 #224019Okay Marble, I shall meet you again on the playing fields of Nottingham and Lingfield (Chartwell, 7f) on 9th May.
The embarrasing thing (apart from me not knowing how to spell embarrasing), is that I don’t know when the next 5f Pattern race for F&M is.

On balance there would look to be only a handful with any sort of chance, but I think there is some mileage in supporting
Angus Newz
.
Mick Quinn certainly isn’t a stranger to high-priced winners and his filly is perfectly drawn for a confirmed front-runner. She’s used to forcing the pace over six furlongs, so any lead she is allowed over five could prove difficult to claw back, and Darryl Holland would seem to be the ideal booking. On figures she has an absolute mountain to climb, but she’s been dropped 5lb for her no show in a decent race won by Chief Editor (she failed to lead on that occasion) and could be under-estimated.
April 28, 2009 at 15:20 #224083If the ground is genuinely good, then I like Bahamian Babe e/w in this at 16-1, fancied her for this when looked at cards last night and she looks fairly positive in the betting this morning and could go well. Look Busy should be hard enough to beat though, but she is conceding 10lbs to Bahamian Babe, who I suspect may have improvement in her.
April 28, 2009 at 16:15 #224090I like
Speed Song
for the future from here. Her problems with being slowly away last year though don’t fill me with confidence to back her up, if she does her usual trick she won’t see which way some of these fillies went. But, i strongly expect she’ll at least pick up a couple of handicaps this season.
I would side with
Look Busy
though @ a top price of 11/2 is not bad at all. A group 3 winner with out a penalty. She is tough and has bags of ability. I would argue at just 4 she can still improve yet, she won 6 of her 8 starts at 5 furlongs last year, she’s an out and out speed ball. She simply doesn’t stay the 6f well enough for my eye but on good ground over 5f she hits the line fast.
The highest rated horses don’t always have such an easy time though and i wouldn’t put it past an improver. Interesting how these 3yos get on, I’m hoping
Blades Princess
can prove useful this season
April 28, 2009 at 20:55 #224139I know this race is a long way off in racing terms (Tuesday), but i’ve got a hectic week starting from tomorrow so thought i’d try and get the winners lined up today. I like the look of this race and there’s a couple of one’s that appeal. I just want to test myself at these 5f sprints as in the past they’ve been a graveyard for me.
Look Busy
is top rated and will take all the beating in my book. It’s not rocket science – the horse appears to have the best form by far. Hopefully it goes for this race as looks a bit of a good thing to me.
Only one I can see troubling it is
Crimson Fern
. Lost her way the backend of last year but before that she was highly progressive. On a going day I thought it would have a good chance.
Can’t have the Prescott horse after being pulled up last time out.
God knows if i’ve got this race right, will have to see what the betting says when it opens up tomorrow evening.
Well played that man, i had a good bet on one of my favourite horses
last year at Ayr, called Inxile and Look Busy beat him, so i knew she had to be good, better than the opposition today, Betfair went 9 what a price!
i personally had her at 7/2 Unbelievable! By the way that was almost an
Ante-post thread there! Well done!April 28, 2009 at 21:03 #224141How did you do that Marble?
As I wrote earlier, I’ve had a few goes at this race now, without success.
I understand about Look Busy, as you said, its not rocket science.
But what were your full reasons for Crimson Fern? I want to learn. Did you place much emphasis on the fact that she had led at the furlong pole last time out? I like to note that. She’s got a good win percentage, but I tend not to notice that too much.
I’m going to lie down in a dark room, and then prepare for Saturday’s big race (Thirsk Hunt Cup) and the 6f H’cap after the 1,000 Guineas.
April 28, 2009 at 21:51 #224150Yes, looking for remarks that indicate that horses are good or game, is a good thing to concentrate on. (I need to do that, as I actually watch very little horseracing.)
However, it looks like it is just a question of putting in a lot of work on a race. I need to be doing more form studying, and less messing around browsing this Forum. Can’t do any tonight, but I’ll try to get a decent night’s sleep and do a race tomorrow evening.
