The greatest flat jockey of all-time in my opinion, just box office.
Superstar, crowd fav’, timing, style.
Nothing compares.

August 18, 2010 at 14:17 #313390Matthew, you were saying Ryan Moore was the best jockey not long ago. Or have I misunderstood you. Apologies if that’s the case.
You’re probably going to come back and say that you mean Frankie is the greatest jockey of all time but Moore is better now. Well if that’s the case, if Moore is better than than the greatest jockey of all time then surely he’s greater

I’m confused lol.

Today, Moore is overall the best jockey but of all-time it’s Frankie.

Matt, you started this thread literally a few minutes after Frankie had won on Opinion Poll, so I think you, me and everyone knows you were on that horse, hence your love of Dettori

Mate, I swear on mine and my two cats lives I had £60 on the McMahon horse, I just appreciate class jockeys and he’s the best ever on his day.
August 18, 2010 at 16:28 #313419Sorry, I backed the gosden horse in that race, stop arguing with me one eye I’m getting all confused
August 18, 2010 at 16:53 #313427Would it not make for a neater and much more compact forum if Cormack introduced two new sections:-
one entitled ….. ‘Matthew’s *hite Jockeys,Trainers etc.’
and the other entitled ….. ‘Matthew’s Not So *hite Jockeys, Trainers etc.’
…and perhaps even a third…..’Matthew’s Over Exuberant and Knee Jerk Reactions to Jockeys, Trainers etc.’
Just a suggestion.
August 18, 2010 at 16:57 #313429dettoris a brilliant all round jockey, i think he’s got a good judge of pace from the front. but somehow i dont think he touches fallon, moore or murtagh.
however, ill be having a small e/w punt on Fleeting Spirit on friday. Firmer the better. I think 5f will be abit too sharp for Starspangledbanner.

Matthew,
If you want to know about the greatest flat jockey of all time, read one of the tomes on Fred Archer. There are 3 biog’s that I’m aware of. Anyway, you’ll be quite amazed and also saddened by the short life of one of the true greats of the turf.
August 18, 2010 at 18:27 #313446Cheers Dave,
In my lifetime, I’ve been into racing since I was 14 and am now 36, Frankie has been the best I’ve seen overall.

Rather different from your initial "greatest flat jockey of all-time" claim, unless "all time" should have read "my time".
Personally, for me nobody’s got near Fred Archer.

It should have read my time that’s right.
My dad always says Lester was the greatest.
Bit similar when he says the greatest footballer was George Best, in my time it was Diego Maradona.
August 18, 2010 at 22:06 #313508For my life nobody beats Martin Molony.Incidentally I went to my first race meeting at Baldoyle in ’46 or ’47 I am not sure of the date. The first flat race of the year for tyo’s was on St.Patricks day at Baldoyle.Vince and Darkie(he employed Australian jockeys) and P.Slater,Joe Osborne were some of the popular trainers.Martin,Tim (he rode in England), Jimmy Brogan and Aubury Brabazon and T.P.Burns were amongst the NH jockeys; Pat Eddery’s father rode for Joe McGrath.Bunny Cox was the star of the gentleman jockeys. But forgive me for rambling.
