Labrokes are concerned about the status of the race and are canvassing opinions on its change, this story from Wednesday I wonder wether the yesterday may have changed there minds.
Should the sponsors be allowed to dictate how a race is devised you dont find Cadburys telling Granada who to employ on Coronation Street.
If they get there way whats to stop Paddy Power completely changing the Cheltenhma Gold Cup.
I bet McCririck will be burst with range if hes heard of this.

How do you know they don’t?
September 16, 2007 at 09:54 #115215Have we really reached that point them where sponsors dictate shows I dont remember Carphone Warehouse actually asking for Jade Goody and co to be thrown out of Big Brother they just withdrew their sposnorship (they may have called Endemol and advised them they would pull out) but is this the way forward then, weve already allowed the sponsors to take the names of a lot of horse races away is this the next step.
Corm would you allow a sponsor to tell you how to adminster this site and who to allow on and what topics could be discussed?
September 16, 2007 at 10:17 #115217Whats a couple of hundred years history Steveh? I don’t know what all the fuss is about? I mean if Ladbrokes, who have of course helped racing since it was ever a recognised sport, want to change the make and shape of the oldest classic why shouldn’t they? It’s only history!
September 16, 2007 at 11:47 #115229As the sponsors, they have the right to express an opinion.
If that opinion is "change the race or we stop sponsoring it" then that’s a fair choice to give.
Frankly, I think it’ll be easy enough to find another sponsor.

Absolutely not.
Anyway, enough of this – time for me get back to this weeks Betfair competition thread.
