All the team can do now is pray that Tizzard does the right thing and goes to Ireland to win the nexus with Elegant escape. Kempton does not suit EE though such is the power of the horse that if he were to turn up in the king george he can win it.
Ideally the team would prefer to turn up in the gold cup having already won a grade 1 and the Lexus looks ideal for the greatest chaser of all time.
December 1, 2018 at 16:46 #1387783WELL DONE BOBBY and AUTUMNAL and JOE

And Naus DD ran really well just ran out of steam off that insane early pace mate .
And talking of insanity I thought halfway up the straight with DD !!
Thanks guys
December 1, 2018 at 16:56 #1387787Well done Raymo, Autumnal and all who got a return or a great run for their money.
potato, if there was a Gold Cup horse on show in that race it was probably the winner, who ranks a very decent outside bet given he’ll be overpriced because of his history, age and rating. He should go to 160 after that and is obviously still improving (showing real zest in both races this season and a big heart toward the end of last season)
Thanks to all who commented on the preview – much appreciated.
December 1, 2018 at 17:07 #1387789I rest my case.
At least it’s brought you to comment, treviticus.
So can’t be all bad.
Value Is EverythingDecember 1, 2018 at 17:15 #1387790Potato, interesting thinking about the Lexus. Native River probably going to Kempton so Ireland a good plan for EE (though of course the Tizzards don’t mind running horses against each other) and it’s a fair galloping track which would likely suit as he’s a proper big galloping horse. It would be great to see him against the best we can offer over here.
I agree with Naus though that he’s more likely a 4 miler and would love to see him over the National fences!! Reckon he could carry a bit of weight over them no problem.
December 1, 2018 at 18:47 #1387800For me I am not sure EE’s jumping is fluent enough for a Gold Cup, he didn’t make a bad mistake but there were several little ones that were always just enough to halt his momentum and that is the last thing you need to be doing in a Gold Cup.
Heading to Ireland though is a great call as I always think a lot of English trainers miss a trick by not sending raiders over to try and plunder big prizes over there – I know you run the risk of bumping into a Mullins or Elliot runner but that is not much difference to bumping heads with a Henderson or Nicholls star either. Especially considering a lot of the races cut up badly to single digit fields.
December 1, 2018 at 18:58 #1387803With so many front/prominent runners in the Ladbrokes Trophy, several whose tactics were changed didn’t like it. Tom Scu did the best thing, not getting involved with a battle for the lead and yet keeping wide – always with a clear view of the front. Jockeys who went around the inner (surround by horses) on normally prominent runners – The Young Master, Flying Angel etc found their mounts not liking the change of tactics/claustrophobic. Black Corton is a genuine front/prominent runner, but ran how Black Corton does when not ridden prominently/in bigger fields. Americain either hated being out the back or something amiss. West Approach may do better one day (maybe when able to dominate) not looking the most willing held up. Hope Thomas Patrick is ok, beaten too far out and might have a back problem; unusually making mistakes. On form with Elegant Escape would’ve been fighting it out with the winner. EE’s jumping also uncharacteristically falling apart in the home straight, but wouldn’t have beaten the winner anyway and not good enough to take on the best maybe will take on his stable-companion again at Chepstow . Dominant performance by Sizing Tennessee, improving for the test of stamina and could run well over Christmas. Struggled to win over a shorter trip on faster ground last time and in hindsight showed a lot of promise at the Cheltenham Festival. Dingo Dollar ran a good race, just didn’t appear to stay. Although having said that might have disputed it at too strong a pace. But tbh imo Hutchinson probably did the only thing he could – improvement in both form and jumping of fences coming when front/prominent running was adopted. So had he dropped back I doubt Dingo Dollar would’ve given his running anyway. Beware The Bear stayed on to be 4th, but doesn’t have the pace or probably application to do any better. Ms Parfois may not have been fully fit and could be one to do better over extreme distances/if taking on the winner again in the Welsh National.
Value Is EverythingDecember 1, 2018 at 21:29 #1387810Almost always all good, Ginge, and I’ve had many hours entertainment reading the different views of you and the lads. For example, I’ll be looking forward to checking in for the Becher next week.
So, hence my surprise at the level of contribution from one new quarter. Anyway, enough said.
Good luck!
December 1, 2018 at 21:41 #1387812This thread has made for some reading LOL
You have my vote for TRF awards thread of year nathan
December 2, 2018 at 10:22 #1387832Thanks lads for the comments.
December 2, 2018 at 13:06 #1387847Getting a bit personal, Nause, and spoiling some interesting discussions
December 3, 2018 at 16:08 #1387925Well done Steeplechasing, Raymo, Autumnal and anyone else who was on the winner. I’m with potato! More to come from EE but I think over further! He’s like Don Poli doesn’t get faster or go slower! Hope he ends up in the Welsh National but imagine he’ll have a decent weight.
December 3, 2018 at 19:05 #1387947I think the winner will go Welsh national Kram
December 3, 2018 at 21:58 #1387962Guessing he’ll go up about 8/10lbs which would put him level with the runner up. Would they run both? I know they ran NR in both races as a younger horse but may be a lot to ask EE to go to what would prob be another very hard race in the Welsh National. Winner did look like he would stay further but guessing the price is gone now.
December 4, 2018 at 13:54 #1388002Backed the winner but main bet was Dingo Dollar and think he was extremely unlucky to have the ground go against him; needs good ground,
The owners will aim at the Scottish National and work backwards.
Impressive from the winner who out-stayed an average field; be interesting to see him at Chepstow later this month.
December 5, 2018 at 09:01 #1388054The winner would be worth a crack at the Welsh national at 10 years of age.
Would be crazy to send the 6yo EE to the Welsh national though. Maybe in a few years if he didnt develop into the legendary gold cup champion that I have predicted he will.
A lot of people seem to be negative on EE as a gold cup horse and rate him as a classy plodder.
For me his gold cup credentials remain perfectly on course.
Ran a cracker as a 6yo in the RSA to be 3rd (a race that 7yos dominate) That experience of the festival will be to his benefit in the gold cup.
A 2nd season chaser who is improving all the time.
Ran a cracker in the ladbroke trophy carrying a big weight. This run was his 2nd.run back from a break and he only had a 20 day gap from 1st to 2nd run. It’s very possible and extremely likely that he bounced and found it tough at the business end yet take out the winner and he spreadeagled a quality field carrying a big weight.
The horse has class, the horse has the heart of a lion and has never been out of the top 3 in 9 chase races.
I hope he doesnt go to King George as a sharp track does not play to his strengths. The Lexus must be his.next target. He will improve again on his 3rd run of.the season and can land his 1st grade 1 chase.
Then give him a rest, bring him out 3 weeks before cheltenham, let him win a nothing race as a warm up then go and take the 1st of his gold cups.
Imo the train is perfectly on schedule and in March the train will be stopping at the gold cup winners enclosure.
ITS FULL STEAM AHEAD
For the legendary great one
