Sponsors have this priced up, and there’s a few worth an early look, while Hills have also priced some of them up.

Long term fancy of mine here is Terrefort. Going the right way last year, though didn’t really grab me until Aintree. He’s high enough I suppose, and I’ve no idea if this would be the plan, but considering connections, I’m hoping he goes. He’ll probably me subject of my annual, ill fated, and ill advised, “Hennessy/Cheltenham Gold Cup Double”. Right now, 16’s seems about right. In the same ownership is Janika, and he looks a horse to take a note of for races of this nature.

I’m also considering that elusive double for Sizing Codelco. He blew me away at the tail end of the 2017 season, but he looked amiss last season, and never came close to justifying my hopes for him. As last season progressed though, there were definite signs of improvement, and he looks big at 50’s. From same connections, I haven’t given up on Sizing Tennessee either.

Thomas Patrick & Step Back looked highly progressive in the spring, and both have to be considered, while I think that Ballyoptic looked perfect for this at Ayr, and he’s also of serious interest.

As well as Terrefort, I’m sure Henderson will have a load entered, and one of his who I really like, is Rather Be, and he looks a live one based on his run in The Close Bros, as does Mister Whitaker.

In the preceding race to that Close Bros, I thought that both Ms Parfois & Impulsive Star, both advertised their claims for this. In fact, I could see Ms Parfois being particularly popular.

WPM won it last year with Total Recall, and I could see him being mob handed, at least at the entry stage. I’d love to see Bachasson considered for this, but I’m not convinced he’ll be the one for Closutton, and I think that the very decent Pairofbrowneyes might be considered, as well as Livelovelaugh, who has went under the radar a little. Invitation Only would be another interesting one.

There seems little point in guessing which Gigginstown horses will get an entry, so won’t waste too much time second guessing, but I think the likes of Monbeg Notorious, Dounikos, and the underrated Arkwrisht, are all interesting.

It’s not a race I automatically consider for JP horses, but his Regal Encore made the frame last year, and could reappear here, while he could also maybe look to the likes of Geordie Des Champs, No Comment, or Any Second Now.

The Rooneys could also have plenty ammunition for this, with Go Conquer, and Master Dee springing to mind. Master Dee surely has another big pot in him, while Go Conquer should be weighted to win soon.

Paul Nicholls has had some joy in this, and I like both Ibis Du Rheu & Black Corton, while another previous winning trainer, Alan King, may just have a proper dark horse, in Dingo Dollar, who’s very appealing at 25’s.

Edit, American is massive at 33’s as well, step in the right direction at the end of the season, and worth remembering his excuses in this last year.

Just an early look just now, but close to the early shortlist, are Dingo Dollar & Pairofbrowneyes, but although no money down, my main two at the moment are……

    Terrefort 16’s
    Sizing Codelco 50’s

Yes – jumps are on the horizon!

My early fancy for this is Elegant Escape, but at 12s (14s with WH), that’s far too short for me to be playing this far out.

Great read as always VtC, cheers :good:

    Thanks Frankie.

Got to give Elegant Escape a proper chance, and at least you’re going to be with one who we know is definitely going.

I’m surprised that Blaklion doesn’t figure in the early shows, and I haven’t heard any bad news. He would be my early interest for this, so at least I don’t have to throw any money away just now.

Of the runners that are listed, maybe Step Back at 25-1 or Barney Dwan same price. I am looking at Ballyoptic for The Grand National, so I don’t really want him to win this.

Terrefort starting to get backed after Nicky Henderson stating he might go here, so have to have first go in this.

Still very tempted by American, Sizing Codelco, and particularly the 25’s on Dingo Dollar, but for now…..

    Terrefort 16’s Win

I had the same bet last night VTC, trip and ground should be perfect for him and even though 158 is high enough he’s an improving horse with G1 form in the book. 16s more than fair, even this far out.

    Good stuff, as per, VTC.

I’d prefer Elegant Escape for Chepstow, as I think he’s growing into a thorough stayer, whereas you need a bit deeper pace for this

I expect Ballyoptic to be aimed at Aintree so a win here wouldn’t be in the interests of connections.

Thomas Patrick is a fair price at 20s

I might have a punt on Master Dee at 33s : handicapped to win a big one, actually has the pedigree of a National horse.

    Terrefort needs some soft ground.
    Not guaranteed.

American and Black Corton are two early fancies for me. Two classy acts who might just be ahead of the handicapper.

One i really like for this is Dell Arca. Not one i initially had down as a staying chaser, but he’s really come to his own in these contests over the summer and his run last time out was seriously encouraging in some good company.

If the ground is right, I’ll be all over Dingo Dollar for this!

I had one of my biggest ever bets on this horse in March for the Ultima, when he did not run.

He’s now a strong second choice for me as well Nausered, and I might chance he gets his ground, and take that 25’s early. Trying to hold off for now though.

I really like him VTC! Barring his fall first time up, he really took to fences, attacking them with real gusto. I’m told they think he could be a really nice horse this year. I’ve had a bit on at 25-1, but he needs some give in the ground for sure IMO to win a big one.

We are due a dryish Autumn, but you’d hope Newbury would be at least G-S by then. If it comes up soft, I’ll be steaming into him.

Who am I kidding about waiting for the ground. I’ve started really backing him now VTC. Last four horse bets I’ve placed, I’ve chucked an extra £5 win double with Dingo Dollar @ 25’s attached. Two have won, so it’s already started. I’ve got two running at Ascot today, both have the same extra win double running too :good:

I’ll be honest, I think he’ll end up being a lot better than a handicapper over fences. I’ve not liked a novice as much jumping wise since I saw something similar in Coneygree in his GC winning year… I just could not get my head around how that horse was 12-1 on the eve of that race with all the rain forecast. Dingo Dollar loves them fences, gets all competitive about it in a similar way. I had by far my biggest ever bet on Coneygree in that GC. At the start that day he took a bite at the much bigger Irish horse who was trying to hustle him at the start. Jumping the first I knew he’d win. Dingo Dollar is IMO a very similar bold aggressive jumper. I’ve watched him take lengths at nigh on every fence when he’s actually been asked too. A big raw horse, he has some stride on him too. He’s so under the radar, because he’s raced against nothing in graded races yet. I don’t care, he’ll win something big off his current mark. I’m glad they did not run him in that Ultima now, even though I lost money. He ran his heart out at Ayr going down all guns blazing, but good ground is not for him IMO. I think he could be the really good one for King, that’s long over due.

25-1 for the Hennessy, that’s going to look very juicy IMO.

I’m off to ask for a price for the 2019 GC :yahoo:

Yeah, I’ve started chipping away myself Nausered. The more I thought about him, and more importantly as you mention, the fact that they’ve looked after him, avoiding Cheltenham, convinced me to have a go.

Be happy days if he comes good, and that 25’s is just far too big.

I’ve asked Betfair a few times recently to add him, but no joy so far.

I have managed to get him in a double for this, and The Gold Cup, and I got 400’s. Also took the 125’s for Terrefort.

    Updated Bets……

    Terrefort 16’s Win
Dingo Dollar 25’s Win and EW
Terrefort to win Ladbroke Trophy/Cheltenham Gold Cup 125’s
Dingo Dollar to win Ladbroke Trophy/Cheltenham Gold Cup 400’s

I could not agree more. I backed him earlier at 125-1 on request a price from bet365 for the GC, £50 win. Had one double won today running onto him for the Hennessy, so I have £115 on him at 25-1 currently in doubles, plus a £50 win bet at same price.

Let’s hope he’s a superstar. I’ll be getting more on as well at 25-1!
