Love him or loathe him Battaash’s ability is something one can’t deny.
The big question always is …which Battaash will show up?
I’ve seen many good sprinters through the years and this gelding stands up quite well in comparison but can’t say others have polarized opinion quite the way he has.
As a juvenile he won only on his racecourse debut from 5 attempts.Since then his early season form has been consistent however his best career numbers come from later in the season, one from each of the last three seasons. Two from August & the other when he won the L’Abbaye in October. With the exception of Longchamp last year was probably the most consistent season based on RPR also registering career high numbers.
While it’s logical to think as a sprinter ages they lose their natural ability but I would contest this idea as from my point of view in the last few years sprinters have gone on improving until 6yo’s and I for one wouldn’t hold this against him.
    good luck to all

Baataash even money now. 2/1 was huge. 4/1 was insane.

    Is Sceptical a hype horse?

Only raced once on turf and that was this week, winning a listed race where the only other horse rated anywhere near was unplaced (may have needed the run who knows). Rated 116 after that run that is 10 lb behind on ratings to the favourite. Also has to back up the run a week later, something they not done before so that’s an unknown.

The favourite has won first time the last 3 seasons, and the danger of playing up in the preliminaries will be minimised somewhat with no crowd. The question mark may be an age thing but 6 isn’t too bad.

I’ve not backed either they are both pretty short now but the enthusiasm behind Battaash I can understand, as the form is there.

Someone mentioned a weight allowance, a weight allowance will make it interesting but I don’t know if there is one. They are both bay geldings so can someone confirm why one would have a weight allowance?

    Mike, i agree about Sceptical.

Great story, great buy and great jockey booking. Horrid price. for the reasons you label above. Wins easy, but his form is lacking given his price isn’t it?

Doubt there is a Weight allowance for the colts, fillies obviously get the mares allowance.

no allowance for sceptical, he wont need it anyway

Is his form really lacking though? Battaash is rated 126 based on his win against soldiers call, which in theory is correct but its not really, best runs have came at goodwood and i dont personally think hes ran to the rating he has since the abbaye win in 2018,

If sceptical runs the same race as the other day i cant see him being beaten, a touch short now though i wouldn’t back at 3/1 antepost

Couldnt rule out glass slippers either, i like liberty beach and hope she runs well, ill be disappointed if something doesnt emerge from
    This that isnt battaash.

Battaash beaten by Blue Point (finished on 124) over a course and distance that we know is quite his optimum is better form everyday than Sceptical Ham.

You watch Irish racing, tell me something in that form of Sceptical’s that’s even solid G3? Hes won with his head in his chest, but beat zero.

What price should Sceptical be in your opinion? I can’t see how he’s shorter than a glass Slippers for beating irish sprinters, the Irish spring division is very average as we all know.

Battaash is rated 126 for breaking dayjurs rack record that stood for 29 years

Describing that as just beating soldiers call seems very un fair on the horse

It was the best performance of the entire 2019 flat season

If he runs to anything 120+ he wins this easily

That is not what gets you a rating FF, it may be looked at in comparison to how easy he won but when you look at the horses in behind it takes the gloss off, optimal conditions aka the right tailwind and firm ground, track records get beaten, its who you beat and how you beat them and He didnt beat that much,

Thats just an opinion but Far from the best performance of the 2019 flat season for me, it wasnt on figures either so purely speculative.

Also if glass slippers runs 116 it means he has to run 120+ to win and it wont be easily at that, however he is more than capable of winning this, like i said its just price issue for me not an issue with his ability

Id say he was a fine price around 6 or 7/1 before frankie was jocked up jack, glass slippers should be about the same, battaash an obvious strong favourite, should be all about the front 3 in the market, pretty poor outwith that unless oxted has about 7lbs hiding in his hoofs

I wouldn’t even rate Battaash as highly either- i’d always sit in the Blue Point over Battaash camp, however, his form stacks up way better than Sceptical’s at the prices. Ascot isn’t ideal for him, and that’s a worry anytime he comes here but to me that doesn’t justify Sceptical’s price at all. With Frankie on board he was always going to shorten, as it’s Frankie, but on pure form he’s a 7/1 shot at best.

On pure form, Battaash has beaten or ran close to many 110 + horses (yes that sounds quite poor on the face of it).

Sceptical we are looking at: 100, 107, 101 and 106. On seasonal debut.
    Dundalk he beat a 68 rated and a 83 now rated 87.

All with ease, but he has everything to prove.

    Sceptical going to the DJ.

Officially it’s to give him more time. Unofficially it’s because they know that the DJ is a massively weaker race than taking on Battaash.

Battaash, like Japan in the POW, is a good thing if running anywhere near his best.

I’ll have a bet here, and I think that Equilateral is worth trying at 14-1.

Hein, Liberty Beach is drawn next door to Battaash
That is the perfect follow through for her and I hope they hold her up and play late
I think she’ll travel better, it will be a case of can she kick as hard and fast as he can
it’s odds on she won’t but I’ll be cracking open a beer or two if she does….
