I’m a glutton for punishment and I’ll have one more go on Lostintranslation.

I’ve always seen potential for this race for Tornado Flyer. Can’t leave him unbacked at 33’s, and no way in the world will he finish last.

    2 pts e/w 33/1.

Haven’t had many bets recently but have in this…

There are potential improvers but Minella Indo has the best form away from Kempton and Clan Des has the best Kempton form. Cheek pieces must be a negative for the Irish horse. However, if you asked me if having the two combined or the rest… It would be an extremely difficult decision, just about coming down on the REST. But on betfair it’s around 6/4 combined and that’s worth taking imo. Well, taken 3.9/1 Clan Des with a 4.1/1 saver Minella. Also saver on 15/2 Frodon and a speculative small wager on Saint Calvados 25/1 – first start for Nicholls so if improving 10 lbs…

Why is Chantry House so short? Thought about laying him but his price has imo made four others worth taking.

Ground has come to make it more a test of stamina, which will suit the Gold Cup winner.

I know he is very sweet on Clan but does anyone think that Nicholls would ideally prefer to win with any of his horses other than Frodon today?

Don’t think it matters to Nicholls tbh.
Think they made a mistake last year by going to the Betfair Chase on heavy ground. Clan just wasn’t at his best in this last term. Therefore Frodon won a poorer KG last year. So unless Bryony gets an easy lead both Clan and Minella (if equally effective here) should have the beating of Frodon here.

Looks like they’re gonna go hammer and tongs. This is quite exciting. Hoping for a great race.

    Inspired stuff TTC!

At least lunatic Asterion fell (and is OK), allowing me to collect the each way part of my Saint Calvados bet.

Well done VtC and TTC, he has his day in the sun at last. A brilliant ride. Chantry didn’t jump at all well, perhaps his back not right again.

Thanks to all who tipped up the winner. I took a little bit with Paddy and they’ve returned 50/1!

The race probably raises more questions than answers.

    Has Tornado been under rated?

What to make of Minella Indo’s run? Is he just a spring horse as some of us speculated earlier on the thread?

Is Clan as good as he was? The race set up well for him but he could not win.

Maybe it made no difference and he just did not stay but I worried at the time about that big mid race move by Saint Calvados. Should he have been waited with longer?

Credit to Frodon for lasting as long as he did to finish 4th off that suicidal early pace – wasn’t quite Dessie/Beau Ranger/Cybrandian but not far off it.

Gotta feel for Asterion who I feel has a big race in him somewhere down the line – sods law that he actually jumped the fence perfectly but just landed too steep.

Congrats to all on the winner.

Great call Bobby (VTC) and TTC, looked the best horse in the race.
Chantry House was never going and jumped poorly. I knew he was done
long before he waS pulled up.
