I’ve added Asterion Forlonges at 8-1, and I just hope that racing is unaffected by talk of restrictions.

I’m happy to stick with my early CDO bet here, but I’ve also covered Saint Calvados 25-1 ew

Happy with Clan 18s ew and Minella 10s ew. May have a win coverbet on the day on Chantry as I’ve backed him for the Gold Cup but I’ll see.

Happy to stick with Dashel Drasher each-way, still 66/1 in a place or two.

Will Dasher not struggle to lead with Frodon doing his usual party piece , I get the feeling this year Frodon will set the race up and I don’t see Bryony suckering these boys for a 2nd year in a row

You may be correct, but at 66/1 I can live with the question mark!

Can’t let a bit of 40/1 slide on Mister Fisher.

Mine’s out, presumably because of the going.

A watching brief for me, but if I was pushed for a selection Frodon looks sound at 6/1. Saw off this race’s current second favourite on seasonal return At Down Royal and was impressive in winning this last year. Doesn’t appear to have regressed from that form.

Does anyone think that Kempton is unlikely to suit Minella Indo unless the ground gets very deep?

He seems to excel on much stiffer tracks like Cheltenham and Leopardstown and looking at the field he seems to be the one long on stamina whereas with most of his rivals you could argue 3m is the upper end trip wise as they would have a lot more tactical speed than him.

I just wonder whether the pace of the race (stupid to let Frodon dictate again like last year) may just see things happening a bit too quick for him especially on decent ground and unlike Cheltenham/Leopardstown there are few opportunities to get significant breathers in at Kempton when the pace is being pushed, which you can imagine will be the case this time (although whoever does it will likely need to get on the inside of Frodon who tends to go a little to his left).

For me Asterion Forlonge is the real dark horse – if (a monumentally big if though it is) he can put in a reasonably clear round he cleary has the talent to win this as he was absolutely running all over Allaho before departing 3 out in the John Durkan – sadly he is too small a price for me now to trust that his jumping will hold up.

I’d be concerned about the cheekpieces, almost feels like an admission from connections that they are thinking the same as yourself and lots of us LD. Saying all of that it gave Clan Des Obeaux that spark he was lacking so who knows perhaps hes been working the house down in them, we just dont know. Kevin Blakes made an interesting point that he could be quite free in his youth and it could light him up too much

Backed Chantry House at 14/1 for this a while back (in Ante Post thread) I obviously
fancy him a fair bit. If he does manage to win this and if you fancy him for the
Gold Cup the 12s, best price at the moment, will be well gone. William Hill are
offering 33/1 for him to win both. I don’t think that’s too bad a bet.

Big G I played that bet a while back , Hendo is really talking Chantry up , like LD I’m concerned Minella might be tapped around Kempton. can see a similar run to what Native River did the year after his GC , I’ve played LIT again , I’ve got 40s and was expecting 10s so delighted to get 14s earlier , he looked backed to his old self last time akin to Cue card after he,d looked gone at the game , I see Frodon as the set up horse this year esp if Drasher hassles him all the way round ( she won’t get a chance to get a breather in this year ) so I can see it being set up for COD , LIT or Chantry , CDO is no value so the other 2 are covered

Minella indo was last off the bridle in the gold cup

Hes not a plodder like native river was coming here as the gold cup winner

If he loses it won’t be the track for me it’ll be because he’s just better in the spring

The other factor against him is his record right handed isn’t great

I’m attempting to get clan on side at a nice price coupling him in a double with riviere detel to win the novice at leopardstown

“If he loses it won’t be the track for me it’ll be because he’s just better in the spring.”

Agree FF. I do wonder if Minella Indo is a spring horse and better at Cheltenham than anywhere else.

I suppose he cannot be judged on his run last Christmas when he fell too early to know what would have happened. However, he only put in an average run at the Dublin Racing Festival before coming good at Cheltenham in the spring on better ground.

I give a narrow vote to Clan Des Obeaux and I have had an each way saver on Saint Calvados.
