An astonishing column by Fallon in his weekender column.
For those who haven’t read it he has a huge rant at Matt Chapman for comments made by Chapman on the ATR Sunday Forum about his ride on 8/13 shot Bwindi at Southwell last week. It was astonishing because it seems he clearly hadn’t watched the programme and actually listned to what Chapman said. He ended with the usual ‘what right has Chapman got to criticise a ride when he isn’t a jockey’.
1. Chapman didn’t criticise the ride, in fact he defended it and said he didn’t think Fallon did anything wrong after going through the race in depth. All he said that it seemed a strange race and some people might query the ride and in order to placate them the stewards should have asked for an explanation in to why the horse ran as it did.
2. They tried to get the trainer on the show to offer an explanation.
3. he gives the usual ‘you haven’t ridden etc’. Well even if someone hasn’t ridden it doesn’t mean they don’t know a good ride from a bad ride.

The ludicrous idea that they can somehow only be criticised by their peers is one that looms large in the deranged minds of all sportsmen!

Fallen has probably never played Snooker before but should be able to tell if someone misses a sitter.

You are absolutely right. ATR or to be more precise John McCririck asked Fallon to use his Weekender column to explain the race (for want of a better phrase) as it was an odd one. At no point did anyone criticise Falon’s ride or suggest any wrong doing, far from it. Why Fallon should feel the need to be so defensive is beyond me.
August 13, 2014 at 20:11 #488167Sounds like he doth protest too much, methinks
August 14, 2014 at 05:33 #488178A fuss over nothing. Didn’t Chapman used to have a column in the Weekender where he spouted plenty of carp.
Now Fallon gets paid to do the same while Chapman does is on television now.
August 14, 2014 at 12:12 #488210Fallon is getting on a bit and will be just turning into a grumpy old man. I’ve been going through it since I hit 40. I’m sure Chapman will be having a good laugh about it
August 14, 2014 at 21:18 #488252If memory serves Fallon was on the sideline for two years over a race that was not the object of the inquiry it emerged when the case collapsed. That kind of justice can make a man defensive.
