He’s back from the sick list!
Due to run later this month, Will knock Denman into a cocked hat. Kauto Star has a real challenger at last.
40/1 has to be a great price for the Gold Cup, he wont be 40’s after winning the Irish Hennessy.
December 31, 2007 at 07:57 #132560i agree 40/1 is an insult for a former champ and at those odds could be worth a bit but how often do champs come back as good as before, not often and kk would have to be at his best with kauto and denman, chipmunk
December 31, 2007 at 09:35 #132563Run later in January? ? ? Where at? ? ?
Thanks.
Gareth.

http://sport.setanta.com/en/Sport/News/ … -Gold-Cup/
To summarise, Taffe states that Kicking King may go to Fairyhouse on the 20th January 20 and then onto the Hennessy Gold Cup over three miles at Leopardstown or the Red Mills Chase over two and a half miles of Gowran Park.
Will be great to see Kicking King in action again.

So they should shorten the price so as mot to hurt connections feelings?
Will be great to see him back. Was a fav of mine, but I suspect aspirations will initally be limited
December 31, 2007 at 11:54 #13258540/1 is about right for a horse off the track for 2 years and when there’s already at least 3 rated higher than him in the field. He won a weak Gold Cup and looking at this years it’s the strongest there’s been in ages. Need Denman to run his race and Kauto to stuff him, 187 ratings here we come
January 1, 2008 at 19:08 #132734Punters should all have to repeat the mantra "they never come back" a hundred times before backing a horse like KK for Championship honours- it just doesn’t happen.
January 1, 2008 at 19:13 #132737Ah but could be worth backing on Betfair then laying him when he becomes a nice skinny 12/1 or else!!!!

Barney behave yourself FFs………..he’s a lovely horse but these two are clearly the best for many years……..I’d bet ya a can of coke to a kilo of coke he won’t even be a factor at Cheltenham

I’ll take that bet – only kidding
Kicking King was/is one of my favourite horses and it was him that got me into racing. I’d love him to come back at top form to be a serious contender to Kauto’s crown but that won’t happen. After such as injury it’s hard to expect any horse to be competitive at a high level again. On his best day he’d be up there with the likes of Kauto and Exotic Dancer but I couldn’t see KK beating them. Still, it’s great to have him back!
Kalidor.
January 2, 2008 at 11:40 #132834they never come back
January 2, 2008 at 12:22 #132858Even if he came back to his very best (unlikely) then he would still struggle to place this year.
January 23, 2008 at 21:31 #137347Kicking King makes his first racecourse appearnace in 759 days in the re-routed Gr2 Normans Grove Chase at Gowran facing only 2 others, Newmill & Nickname.
With the race likely to be run at a slow enough pace (Nickname is a hold-up horse and Newmill won’t be suited by the ground so won’t set off like a March hare as he normally does), I can see Kicking King finishing close up and then being cut to a general 16/1 (20s with Partybets obviously!)
They never come back but I have to say if ever I would love to see a horse come back, it’s this one.
January 23, 2008 at 21:59 #137355There was an interview with TT on the RTE news this evening. Here’s the link
scroll down to Sports News, on the clip its about 4 1/2 minutes in.
January 24, 2008 at 10:33 #137398Must admit i never thought he would reappear on a racecourse.
If he does put in a good performance, would they necessarily go for the GC anyway? Very very hard call that one
Aintree perhaps?
A lovely horse though and its great stuff
January 24, 2008 at 10:55 #137400Great to see him back and if he runs ok/jumps well today and in his next race, he’ll definitely go for the Gold Cup.
I don’t think they would have taken the time/effort to bring him back to run at Aintree/Punchestown.
January 24, 2008 at 12:23 #137409Let’s just hope he returns sound today.
