Winner at Musselburgh on Monday but pulled up lame and couldn’t be saved. 4th fatality at Musselburgh in one day despite small fields. When a course is losing 10% of its runners, you have to start asking questions. R.I.P. Kensukes Kingdom
December 4, 2018 at 23:03 #1388039Questions are being asked, the BHA have launched an investigation!
December 5, 2018 at 11:58 #1388066Or it could all just be a dreadful coincidence with no blame attached to the course. Don’t think there is any need for such a dramatic post. Jockeys reported the going to be perfect at Musselburgh on Monday, and one of the fatalities (Smart Ruler) was certainly down to what looked like a heart attack with no injury to the horse. Can’t see anything coming out of this at all except rotten luck on the course’s part
December 5, 2018 at 13:50 #1388083I wouldnt call Tonge’s post dramatic Meerkat just concerned for the welfare of horses, as we all are.
Having read the associated stories it does seem that the Course suffered a Black Monday of mixed circumstances that could have sadly occured to any of these horses if they had been spread over several different meetings.
Having said that I find it desperately sad to read of the loss of these grand servants to NH racing, some of whom are racing at 12 years of age onwards. The empty horse boxes and the mix of emotions for a horse such as Kensukes Kingdom to have won his race only to pay the ultimate price, multiple this to 4 horses lost and questions will have to be asked and any enquiry by the BHA must be good for the sport just to show that they are listening and want to know if there is anything that might need to be changed.
RIP Kensukes Kingdom
condolences to all who loved are cared for you and to the connections of the other 3 horses that also died that awful Monday at Mussleburgh.

Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...December 5, 2018 at 15:12 #1388087Apologies, I thought I had quoted Dragut’s post in my reply, apparently I didn’t!
Just to be clear I was not suggesting Tonge’s original post was dramatic, but that Dragut’s was a tad sensationalist.December 5, 2018 at 20:44 #1388127No offence taken! x
December 5, 2018 at 22:54 #1388132No offence taken here either (although I don’t think I was being sensationalistic ((if that’s a word)). I agree that this seems to be down to bad luck and coincidence more than anything else.

It was a bit confusing who your post was aimed at so
sorry from me tooWe used to have a quote option above our posts, which has disappeared, where you could make it clear who’s post you were commenting on so for future ref on other posts just use
@(the poster) as I did to yourself above. We all have the one thing in common our concern for the horses that died.
I’m never going to come to terms with how low and down I feel when I visit this part of the Forum and this particular incident has been hard to take, even though they’re not big names they’re still the whole world to someone.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out... -
