Am going to Kempton on Sun 19th October with a few friends for what I think is their first jumps meeting of the season.
Anyone tell me what kind of card we can expect? Any decent races?
October 7, 2008 at 02:51 #183836Here’s last year’s corresponding card so I presume it’s something similar, if not almost exactly the same:
October 7, 2008 at 03:50 #183845All goes to plan and we’ll be sending Katchit there for his warm up!
October 7, 2008 at 04:17 #183847Good luck with your hobbit sized champion, fair play too him and conetcions given the terible record generaly of triumph hurdle winners.
Is it me or is Katchit a Cheltnum specalist, he seems too run allot better their than anywhere else.
October 7, 2008 at 11:59 #183870Katchit form at Cheltenham

Katchit form away from Cheltenham
1121131
Not much in it- defeats only by Degas Art (3 yo hurdle giving 8lb), Harchibald and Al Eile in the Fighting Fifth (btn 3.25L), and Osana (giving 4lb, beaten 8L).
Excellent record at Cheltenham, but pretty impressive away from it too. We all know Harchibald can beat anything on the rare days that he has got his mind on it.

5:35 Mix Business With Pleasure Handicap ChaseOctober 7, 2008 at 13:30 #183877One of the handicap chases on the card is the race formerly known as the Charisma Gold Cup. It was described a little disparagingly in one organ last year as being "just another handicap chase nowadays", but it’s still a decent enough contest for all that it boasts a lower ratings ceiling than the likes of the Summer Plate, Lord Mildmay Chase and erstwhile Mercedes-Benz Chase before it.
The other two chases are both 2m affairs – the handicap saw the reappearance of the likes of Lennon last year, the beginners’ contest Mahogany Blaze and Self Defense.

October 7, 2008 at 14:57 #183890Cheers for that guys.
Some good races on the card. Hopefully Katchit will make an appearance.
October 7, 2008 at 17:49 #183920That’s great Grey Desire – I didn’t know that.
October 7, 2008 at 23:16 #183986Used to be THE start of the jumps season for me, when it was the Charisma Gold Cup day including the Captain Quist Hurdle (once won, unforgettably, by Jinxy Jack, in make-all fashion, on a rare early-season foray south for the Richards-Doughty combo).
Now just a shadow of it’s former self, but still worth a watch.
October 8, 2008 at 02:11 #184004Went to that meeting with my wife to be a few years ago.Backed 6 seconds-all of them were going best turning into the home straight.
October 8, 2008 at 14:06 #184033Its a really nice fixture at a course which is a great jumps venue of course
I willbe there
October 8, 2008 at 14:16 #184035I think I’m working a week on Sunday, otherwise I’d join you! It’s been over four years since I last went to a Kempton jumps meeting (so many of them clash with pointing commitments), so that wants putting right sharpish.

October 8, 2008 at 14:20 #184037Jeremy. Must do that. I go to a lot of the jumps there so let me know when. Always go second day of Xmas festival btw
October 8, 2008 at 14:33 #184041Noted, Clive – I’ll see if I can get there for one of the midweek meets in early new year, if not before! I’m back Oop North for Christmas and Mum and Dad Column want taking to Wetherby on the 27th, so you won’t see me at day two of Christmas Kempers, alas.

October 9, 2008 at 15:35 #184112That’s my usual port of call on the 27th Jeremy as I go home for Xmas.
Hopefully there’ll be no weather problems.October 9, 2008 at 16:10 #184116Given Wetherby’s current travails, it might not be the weather problems we have to be mindful of but the going ones! An arrid November and December could be a bit of a disaster for the venue.
