Hope is all we have just now but Kauto’s well being is the most important thing. Even if he did make a remarkable recovery from whatever injury he ‘supposedly’ has (fetlock, virus…) the GC must surely be out of the question.
February 16, 2008 at 19:59 #143957Without being a doom-monger, could this even be really bad news, or is it one they always recover from?
February 16, 2008 at 20:06 #143960I think it may well be an over reaction. Now back down to 2.3/1. I would imagine they themselves do not know how bad the injury is. Just guessing but probably be back for Aintree, 50-50 for Cheltenham.
Unless it is worse than currently feered will be back next year good as ever.
Value Is EverythingFebruary 16, 2008 at 20:17 #143962GT he’s 3.8 as I write and drifting…
February 16, 2008 at 20:21 #143964Probably because it has been on BBC News 24.
There will be plenty of ante-post backers of Kauto Star that want to lay it off.
Value Is EverythingFebruary 16, 2008 at 20:23 #143965These fluctuations will continue until an official announcement comes from Ditcheat tomorrow I’d suspect. He had settled at around 3.3 for a good half hour or so, so unless there has been a development since this may just be another wave of layers over-reacting. Again, if it is known by anyone that the injury is serious enough to rule out Cheltenham, I’m pretty sure there would be a lot more money out to get him than there currently is.
February 16, 2008 at 20:25 #143966It’s a load of balls PN made the statement without consulting the vet andchanged his story when he did.
He THOUGHT!!!!! it could be a sprained fetlock….next time ask the effin vet first PN before you give us all heart attacks.
Not saying all is well but if the vet says it’s only an infection………hopefully not gravel which can ruin a horse……….then he will most likely be ok in a few days……….he would be rested for that time anyway after Ascot and it may not make an ounce of difference to his prep.
Here’s hoping we all wake up to some good news
February 16, 2008 at 20:26 #143968Wake up? I for one won’t be sleeping!
February 16, 2008 at 20:27 #143969All made even worse by the fact that if they don’t meet we’ll have to listen to fist bang on for another year!!!!
February 16, 2008 at 20:35 #143974…let’s pray The Star is given the all-clear after a good nights sleep.
^^^^My final words in the KautoMania thread!!
Awful news. Something like this was always going to happen, wasn’t it? I wanted to wait until Kauto Star won today before purchasing my ticket for the Club Enclosure on Gold Cup Friday. I book my ticket, get a few things sorted out and then…
£80 + £30 first class travel from Bristol =

I decided to have a quick browse on TRF and find this!! Unless they’re 100% certain it’s not serious then shouldn’t risk him at Cheltenham.
Gutted? Of course, but I’d be heartbroken if they ran him and something serious happened. That’s horse-racing for you. As much as we want to see Kauto Star vs Denman and as much as his fans would like to see Kauto win his second Gold Cup, it’s not the end of the world. It’s not the extent of the injury ie Kicking King, War Of Attrition, Well Chief that’s the problem, it’s the timing of the injury that’s a bugger.
£110+ to watch a cart horse win the Gold Cup…only joking!!

Positive thoughts everyone – it’s only an injury ‘scare’ at the moment.
February 16, 2008 at 20:41 #143977All made even worse by the fact that if they don’t meet we’ll have to listen to fist bang on for another year!!!!

I’m still here you..watch it
February 16, 2008 at 20:46 #143979He’d bang on about summat else anyway!

Colin
February 16, 2008 at 21:00 #143983if kauto doesn’t run in the gc – and i hope he does – would sam be jocked off for ruby ?
February 16, 2008 at 21:01 #143984Yes, that was stated by PN when Ruby made the choice last week. Should kauto not make it then Ruby would ride Denman since he is the stable jockey
February 16, 2008 at 21:26 #143993Betfair Customer Services 16 Feb 20:42
Following news that Kauto Star has suffered a setback and a fitness bulletin will be issued tomorrow morning, all relevant Betfair markets will be suspended at midnight tonight. The markets will be re-opened, with all unmatched bets cancelled, when the official announcement is made public.
If they are suspending why not do it now rather than midnight?
February 16, 2008 at 21:32 #143995A couple of quick questions.
If the injury sustained is indeed a foot infection, could this have occured today, yesterday or sometime during the week? If it had happened before today, why wasn’t it noticed before?
February 16, 2008 at 21:46 #143999i don’t see how it can be a foot infection, showing so quickly after winning a race, even bute can’t mask those problems, just curious the strength of this "lameness".
