Slightly off topic, but for me there are still doubts about Kicking King’s stamina in a truly-run Gold Cup, never mind how much ability he retains coming back from an absence.

Has he come back lame perhaps?
February 16, 2008 at 18:28 #143907Looks very suspect…
Denman 5/4 to lay on the machine for decent money
February 16, 2008 at 18:30 #143909Injury scare on RP website
February 16, 2008 at 18:31 #143911PAUL NICHOLLS reveals Kauto Star has sprained a fetlock. The horse has not beenruled out of the Gold Cup. The trainer will issue a further fitness bulletin Sunday morning.
February 16, 2008 at 18:36 #143913Can anyone explain what a "sprained fetlock" is?
February 16, 2008 at 18:38 #143914If he has a sprained fetlock be lucky if he is cantering in 3 weeks Denman is shortening up all over the place
February 16, 2008 at 18:41 #143916Can anyone explain what a "sprained fetlock" is?
It’s like supports on a suspension bridge…. soft tissues depends on how many or which one on how long it takes to clear up.
February 16, 2008 at 18:41 #143917A sprained fetlock is effectively a sprained ankle, so it all depends on how badly the surrounding tissue is damaged. If ultra-sounds come back clear, and the right drug treatment is prescribed, it could clear up in a week or so. If not, it could be significantly longer.
I should think the bookmaking industry will be in profit regardless of what actually happens at the Festival if Kauto Star doesn’t make it.
February 16, 2008 at 18:44 #143918Equivalent to a twisted ankle in humans. The severity of it will dictate whether or not he runs in the GC.
February 16, 2008 at 18:44 #143919He put in such an authoritative performance today he didn’t look to exerting enough effort to sprain anything.
Let us hope it’s just a bit warm and all cleared up in the morning. Fingers crossed.
February 16, 2008 at 18:46 #143920This would be disastorous. It depends on how bad the sprain is and if the tendons have been effected much
Fetlock explaind:
February 16, 2008 at 18:50 #143921the fact that he is continuing to drift on betfair is now suggesting the worst….backed at 5.5
though it wouldnt be the first time that punters have over reacted on betfair
February 16, 2008 at 19:01 #143922thanks for the fetlock explanations
Kauto out to 11/2 now, so reckon it must be serious
February 16, 2008 at 19:07 #143923This is gutting! He’s so far out on betfair so it must be serious, unless it’s just people assuming the worse, but i know i wouldn’t be backing against him without sound knowledge of him being totally out of it…. Fingers crossed and hopefully he isn’t in too much discomfort poor thing. Get Well Soon Kauto!!
February 16, 2008 at 19:08 #143924Extremely disappointing news if it is an injury that will hold Kauto Star’s work up to any degree.
..and in many ways not least to Denman fans as it means that whatever happens, Denman cannot beat Kauto Star fair and square now at the festival.
Obviously everyone wants Kauto Star there – and if he wins despite this – all arguments can be put to bed for good.
February 16, 2008 at 19:09 #143925Ive laid the horse all season for the Gold Cup now ive backed him im in a very good position of making a nice bundle,at last one of my ante post lays is paying off!!!!!!
Hope he takes his chance he was a ”machine” today, but i feel alot of burnt fingers!!!
