Like he destroyed everything in the Queen mother when he fell. I’m laughing my head off here, WoA was a very impressive winner of the Gold Cup, he is the benchmark IMO.

That was two miles and as a young horse and he didn’t jump round. If you read properly what I said I made the point "if he stays and jumps well"

December 6, 2006 at 16:44 #31580Anyone else seen him in the paddock this year compared with last?
I am convinced that hes developed enormously (as you perhaps expect)
Queen mother form is a bit of a distant memory now ..surely
December 6, 2006 at 17:39 #31581Absolutely destroy WoA, on what basis? Thats what really don’t get MM.
Just simply because he is a far better horse sometimes it just comes down to that.
December 6, 2006 at 18:05 #31583Market Man,
Very interesting!:)
November 3, 2007 at 10:33 #5545Taranis could go much shorter for the King George….
Kauto Star could run in the Hennessy to keep the weights down for Denman….
Doesn’t sound like he retains much faith in Kauto Star to me. Will this beast ever see a winners enclosure again?
November 3, 2007 at 10:47 #122783Hmmm.
It is possibly that he sees Denman as the horse for the future, and more specifically, next years’ Gold Cup.
I wouldnt write Kauto Star off just yet, they may take a different route with him this year, and maybe get more confidence into people if he runs in the Hennessy and wins that.
I did think that the original idea was that Kauto would go to Haydock after last weeks’ outing at Aintree.
November 3, 2007 at 10:51 #122786They would surely only run him in the Hennessy if they thought Kauto was gone and they wanted to frame the race for Denman.
After his last run, the Hennessy would seem a shocking call for the horse if they want to get him back to his best and campaign him properly for the rest of the season.
November 3, 2007 at 11:38 #122795Im not so sure it indicates that much. He does tend to think aloud a bit and surely he will be going to Haydock
Having said that, I wouldnt be too suprised if we have already seen the best of KS but that incredible engine still seems to be there (once its revved up) and hes going to still take some beating. Reckon he might be more vulnerable at Kempton than elsewhere with the shorter run in and the quick fences and im looking closer and closer at (the still underrated i feel) My Way for that one
November 3, 2007 at 12:27 #122808It is possibly that he sees Denman as the horse for the future, and more specifically, next years’ Gold Cup.
If he thought that, it would surely be Denman going to Haydock and trying for the Betfair Million, not Kauto.
The statement more suggests to me that PFN isn’t entirely convinced about sending Denman to the Hennessey and having him lug round such a big weight. Harry Findlay said himself in the RP jumps pullout that it’s he who wants Denman to run at Newbury.
November 22, 2007 at 18:38 #5727Hi All,
With the 1st leg of the Betfair Million near I was thinking about Kauto Star’s achievements of last season. Looking at his stats: 6 races/6 wins, Gold Cup, King George, Tingle Creek, Betfair Million, highest rated chaser over 2-3m2f. Has there been a chaser who has achieved more in a single season?
Your views are appreciated.
Kalidor.
November 23, 2007 at 09:29 #126376I take it you are a fairly young person.
Arkle achieved much more but racing was different then.
In 1965 he won The Whitbread Gold Cup, The Leopardstown Chase, The Cheltenham Gold Cup, The Gallaher Gold Cup, The Hennessy and the King George VI Chase. The difference was in some of these races he was giving away so much weight to good horses it would make you cry. He still holds the track record at Sandown (GGC) and had a brilliant called Mill House 24 lengths in arrears that day.
Add the weight difference on the day and it’s the equivilant of 65 lengths. He beat a horse in that race who would have taken on any gold cup horses you would like to name and probably have beaten them.
Kauto to me is the one exception, but he simply won’t be asked to give away lumps of wight to other horses. I am not saying he couldn’t do it but there are there are too many more options open to the champion horses these days.
Plenty of horses have had excellent seasons, but it is the manner in which you achieve your victories that counts.
Kauto did it in style, he just oozes class and is already a huge Star plus he’s was still a mere baby……..It is only natural he should improve this year and wins tomorrow and goes on to with the King George and The Cold Cup he will have reached "Superstar Status".
He only need to do that in the same style as he did last year, hopefully beat them even easier in the Gold Cup and he will without dowbt be hailed the best since Arkle.
Some racing friend of mines, me included, think he already is but horse don’t always train on, so nothing is certain in this game.
Maybe this time next year we will be reading threads "Who was the Best between Arkle and Kauto Star. Only time will tell

Fister, isn’t that what he did in his last race and got beat? I don’t think Arkle would have won that race either however. He was a true stayer… With legs like a rabbit..
November 24, 2007 at 03:44 #126523Aragon my friend one should always think before talking.
When Kauto ran in that race I guarantee you he wouldn’t be 80% fit. He never went there tuned up to run the race of his life like Arkle did in the likes of the Hennesssy. Kauto will never be asked to do that.
Ignore the trainers statement about 2.5 miles being to short for him now,,,,,,,,he’s pulling our chain there……….it just sounds better than him saying I sent him there only half right to get him tuned up for the big 3.
100% he would have won it easily trust me.
Your statement about Arkle is mind boggling………..please mate Arkle would have carried at least 12.7lbs in that race and the distance would have been no problem. I doubt if the winner would have got on within 10 lenghts of Arkle at his best and would have been getting around 35lbs……..Weight (as we know it) just couldn’t bring the 2 together

December 26, 2007 at 14:40 #6060Simply awesome.
One thing that has been noticable is his jumping has improved a lot this season
But my god…that was impressive
December 26, 2007 at 14:43 #131893That was simply superb!!!!!
I wasnt a fan until today he is such a relaxed powerful horse and he was jumping out of his shoes today and didnt touch a twig!!!!
I cant see anyone touch him now..not even Denman.
I laid £25 on him today..but hopefully i can claw it back backing him now.
But all in all very impressive.
My Way De Solzen…shadow of his former self didnt seem to be travelling from the start
December 26, 2007 at 14:47 #131896I thought before the race that Kauto Star would fall, i just had a feeling about him today.
How wrong was i.
Fantastic display of jumping, especially the last, that was a great jump to put in, in front of the grandstand.
Absolutely fantastic horse, a true champion and it will take something special to stop him winning a second Gold Cup.
