This is more meetings than on a Bank Holiday.
Is there no such thing as saturation when it comes to Horse Racing fixtures?
I can only assume those advocating a reduction in fixtures 15-20 years ago have long since waved a white flag.
June 10, 2016 at 19:06 #1250662Plus 3 Euro 2016 fixtures including England as well, it can’t be good to have so much going on.
June 10, 2016 at 20:09 #1250671Absolutely ridiculous to have so many fixtures, having six in the afternoon is just overkill. Gamblers only have so much betting money, more races doesn’t mean people will gamble more. It’s not as if there is much quality on display either.
June 10, 2016 at 21:12 #1250678Not to mention the 3rd test match at Lords and Eng v Aus at rugby.
Won’t be betting on any racing tomorrow now, just too much to look over.
June 10, 2016 at 21:21 #1250681Maybe top notch at York if there is soft in the description
June 10, 2016 at 21:24 #1250682Terrific mountain stage in the Dauphine as well.
Just the three category 1 climbs, one cat 2 and a HC climb of the legendary Col De Madeleine. Oh yes.June 10, 2016 at 22:40 #1250711…and Bo’ness United v Dundonald Bluebell in the East Of Scotland Cup Final…
June 11, 2016 at 08:17 #1250735.. .seriously though, even though there are a lot meetings there is a good spread of locations. Musselburgh has been sold out for months, York and Chester will presumably be rammed as usual for a Saturday.
June 11, 2016 at 08:35 #1250739Clearly there are only two things that matter – courses are ‘rammed’ with a goodly number of people who in an equine sense couldn’t care what they are watching and an increasing number of punters are losing their money.
There is just a good ‘spread’ of rubbish. There is always going to be dross before Royal Ascot so what a great idea to put on even more dross. You would have thought that there would have been an opportunity to put on some decent ‘summer jumping’ but all we get is third rate fodder at a third rate track.
For those so inclined you could easily spend an hour looking at one race and in all likelihood end up getting little or no reward for your efforts. There must be something better to do with your time?

That is why the BHA like a number of other things eg bucketloads of non runners will do sweet FA about it and hide behind “we have little control over when tracks race”.
If that was the case why are there only 6 afternoon meetings today? Surely there must be at least another 4 tracks who would be rammed and would like to race this afternoon.June 11, 2016 at 11:24 #1250777Will this be on the telly Rob?
June 11, 2016 at 12:53 #1250801As yeats rightly said the BHA will do bugger all about the number of fixtures as yet again we have seemingly hundreds of non runners up and down the country for no good reason. Surely this will have a negative impact on the amount of betting taking place? Its times like this I wish we had someone like John McCririck to speak up for the punter and point out how ridiculous this is and demand action from the powers at be.

Sadly not even on heuchter-cheuchter TV! They know not what they miss!
June 11, 2016 at 18:15 #1250860No doubt those courses racing today will have enjoyed good crowds and made a profit into the bargain.
I don’t see there’s too much wrong with scheduling meetings on days and at times which suit the public. Racing is a spectator sport after all.
The moaning seems to be coming from people who say it’s too time-consuming to study all the cards. Well, you can either just choose one or two cards to get involved with, or you could actually attend one of the fixtures.
June 11, 2016 at 18:39 #1250864Indeed, Venusian knows the score. There were plenty of upsides to today’s bonanza.
Note that a few struggling jockeys and young claimers got more rides today than they have had in the last month! Hopefully a few new working relationships were forged today.
June 11, 2016 at 18:53 #1250865The score sounds very condescending imo.

Interesting use of the word ‘moaning’. Hopefully, some people may view it as raising a serious concern, one that has been around for many years.
