It turns out the young woman who glued herself to “The Hay Wain” in the National Gallery yesterday to jolly well tell us to stop using oil has had holidays in the Canary Islands, Bali and Australia.
Presumably she swam all the way?
July 5, 2022 at 12:17 #1605339These are not protestors, they are attention seekers.
Hypocrites the whole bloody lot of them.
Always makes me laugh the way people say “I’m doing this for my children and grandchildren”. When as far as global warming is concerned the worst thing anyone can do is have children.Well I’ve got no children and never been on a plane darlin’.
This type of “protestor” will only make me do less for their “cause”.

If the glue (if there ever was any) is set then their hands would not have come off as easily.

July 5, 2022 at 16:22 #1605378I do have some sympathy with their cause.
But individual acts of hypocrisy like the one outlined by CAS undermine them and the ends neither justify the means nor make them more likely to be achieved.
They simply antagonise the general public and you don’t win hearts and minds by antagonising people.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"July 6, 2022 at 07:40 #1605485Agree that their tactics are ridiculous and counterproductive. However, I have no sympathy whatsoever for their cause.
Cheap oil has been the miracle of the age. It has transformed the lives of millions of people immeasurably for the better.
These protestors, almost always well heeled and a huge beneficiary of the society built on oil, are regressive people who want to put progress into reverse.
Do they really understand the consequences of what they are asking? She can kiss goodbye to her holidays in Bali, for starters!
And the world is not going to end in a fireball in 10 years time just because they say so.
I am sure “The Hay Wain” was not chosen by accident. Presumably the protestors believe it depicts some sort of rural idyll and Lost Eden. When in fact the world Constable so beautifully evoked was one of back breaking work where you were lucky if you saw beyond your 50th birthday.
I am not convinced it would be a good idea to return to this era. I expect even that is not enough for some of the protestors, who would prefer a return to the level of subsistence agriculture. Or at least say they do. I doubt they would be happy living in that sort of world for long.
July 6, 2022 at 07:54 #1605487Fair comment.

I don’t like their protests (they never exactly target the Chinese and Indian embassies do they?j but climate change is a concern without doubt. Some weather patterns are very disturbing.
If I lived in Australia (Croydon in the su; admittedly) I would be more than concerned

They aren’t always the brightest lot, probably saw ‘oil on canvas’ on the caption.

Spot on, Ginge. I love bringing down the mood at work or with friends when someone announces that they’re pregnant (it’s even worse when it’s a man- you’re not pregnant, mate; you’re just a fat c***) and everyone starts congratulating them.
😂
July 8, 2022 at 13:35 #1605932Glad, don’t forget we’re all addicted to horse racing and sports betting in general. We don’t have that much time for children, maybe our friend Nathan has found it somehow. And we’re also doing pretty much research on pedigrees. I guess most of us haven’t found the right pedigree on the dam side, yet.
But apart from that, I’d hate to see my own kids becoming activists or woke and telling me what to eat, wear and not to do in my spare time.July 8, 2022 at 13:47 #1605935Speak for yourself, Ruby.
I’m not addicted.

July 8, 2022 at 13:51 #1605938Posting regularly on this forum, following every days’ racing results, going racing and so on. Why isn’t that an addiction, Glad?
Probably because you’re looking at the negative meaning of the word. - AuthorPosts
