Norfolk runner up Malc is as short as 5/2 and as long as 5/1 for this.

It’s a stiff five at Ascot, I think he will stay the 6f here and I doubt he will be 5/1 if declared on Tuesday.

Malc is my selection here. He is best priced 4-1 at present. My only decision is whether to bet him immediately or hold off. I think that there is a chance of a drift here.

I’ve got the 5s from earlier in the week – come on, the Norfolk runner up!

2yo races aren’t usually my bag because the market is pretty accurate but this looked a desperate July Stakes I felt, nothing to be afraid of in here.

The Norfolk looks a bit suspect as a race 150/1 beats 66/1 and the O’Brien horse who won his side by miles was beaten pretty far in the Railway Stakes as was the 6th placed horse from the Norfolk. I liked Chief Mankato, would have run in the Coventry but for getting upset in the stalls, that is generally the best 2yo race at Ascot and indeed the form was well advertised in the Railway Stakes. His debut win at Windsor had the 3rd horse from the Windsor Castle in 2nd, the 3rd has won a novice event too. Form looks better than the favourite for Balding. He’ll do for me.
