I’m sure a win will suffice for Baaeed
its only really the ITV crew that seem to hype him up
Haggas from what I have seen has been quite modest
Sea The Stars never won by big margins but was still a class horse with a high cruising speed and Baaeed has inherited a similar style of sitting pretty whilst everything else is off the bridle.
I’d like to see to him win this but Mishriff is a real danger and what I’d like to see more is the two fighting it out in the final furlong

Baaeed won a Novice by seven and a half, a Listed by four and a Group 3 by six and a half last year.

It’s only since running in Group 1s that’s he’s acquired this alleged Sea The Stars-esque quality of not winning by far.

Sorry, I’m just not having it.

Unless he’s suddenly got very lazy from three to four, Baaeed’s not winning by far because he’s not as great as he’s cracked up to be!

I think he won the Lockinge by half way and could have won a furlong if Crowley wanted him to
33.4 seconds the last 3 furlongs with not even half a crack of the whip
Hes been laboured in his finish of late but I think he hasn’t had to pull much out of the bag because he hasn’t faced anything of note
Its the way he travels in his races that remind me of his dad
Hes no Frankel but he has been winning every race and that’s all you can ask for
hes been a 1-0 to the Arsenal of the late 80’s early 90’s as opposed to the Manchester City 5-0 each week

I’d agree with a lot of that and he certainly won the Lockinge going away.

In fact, that’s part of my issue with him because IMO he’s been marginally less convincing in both runs since.

Didn’t beat Real World as far at Royal Ascot and needed three reminders to settle it at Goodwood.

Yet if I make the schoolboy error of unmuting I’m told I’m watching Frankel reincarnate – I like the horse, but IMO it’s the biggest case of “The Emperor’s New Clothes” in years!

I think Baaeed will just about win on Wednesday, but if Mishriff is in the same form as last year he will give him a hell of a race.

He had the mile division by the balls but with Inspiral seemingly back on track today it would have been nice to them face off at some point however its pleasing they are stepping up as its new challenge for him here.

The clash with Inspiral could potentially still happen – Gosden said she will most like head straight for the QE2 next and if the wheels come off on Wednesday then that races would be the likely final destination for Baaeed too.

    Stranger things and all that……

I will be feeling sorry for anyone watching this race on ITV without the mute on as they will be bombarded by ‘the team’ relentlessly about Baaeed.Looking at his pedigree,(both sides),stamina isn’t likely to be an issue. The huge unknown will be the ground which of course will be in the lap of the gods. While he’s recorded runs on good/soft for me the clerks of the course defer to a ‘default’ setting when describing underfoot conditions as not wishing to influence decisions to run. This shows itself with horses being withdrawn on the day after being declared runners.
Personally I would have rolled the die and gone for the Arc but fear seems to have won that argument, too scared of denting reputations rather than going for broke.
    good luck to all

I agree re the Arc, however they have to see out 10f first
If he wins this and wins it well maybe they could be tempted by the Arc.?

“The general belief with Baaeed is that we haven’t seen what he is really capable of as he saves something for himself and ‘only does just enough’, but I rarely buy that sort of nonsense. It’s opinion rather than fact, and we’ll only know it is true for sure if a horse ‘idles’ – another word loved by those who think horses are better than they are – and then pulls out more when challenged again.

Baaeed won races last season by four lengths, six and a half, and seven and a half, so it’s only a recent thing, and if you really think he could have found another three lengths on Palace Pier last year if something had gone that far ahead you want your head tested.

Baaeed is also unproven at the trip, and while everyone expects him to improve for it, that again is opinion rather than fact.

In short, what we’ll have next Wednesday is an unbeaten short-priced favourite going up in trip against the best rival he has ever run against on a course where that rival has shown his best ever form.”

Paul kealy on this race, good to see someone in the racing media talking some sense

Paul Kealy always tries to take on a short priced favourite whenever he can and look for some value, so no surprise he has gone for something else. And even then he says “Baaeed may well win and he does deserve to be favourite”

55 Alenquer at Betfair Exchange’s win only market might seem big if York gets the rain.

And regardless of the weather 4/1 Mishriff seems fair to me.

Baaeed is the most probable winner in my view, but only just and at the odds I can happily oppose him.

Isnt that what everyone should be doing?

The weather forecast at York the next 24 hours is dire.

I will be surprised if Baaeed doesn’t drift – he’s currently 1.46 (4/9) and I could see him being more like 1.66 (4/6) by post time.

It’s ok to leave some races alone, else you are handing your money over to the bookies anyway.

Which is why I had to take some of the 9-4 about Trueshan for Friday’s Lonsdale Stakes… I mean Cup.

Mishriff ideally won’t want rain softened ground either. Despite some winning form on it earlier in his career, trainer has said for a while that he wants it decent.

An upset year if the thunderstorms come?
