Agree Gord, much as I’d love him to can’t see Lee winning, doesn’t hold enough puts to win at Augusta, the way he played tee to green yesterday should be 4/5 shots clear.
Good luck with Watney, still can’t forgive him for that final round 81 in the USPGA couple of years ago when 3 ahead going into the final day, cost me a snall fortune!
April 6, 2012 at 08:14 #399420Agree with you both that Westwood doesnt have the mental strength to go with the rest of his game. Saying that he drove so solidly yesterday he will have to be there or thereabouts come Sunday.
A few early thoughts on the jockeys title –
Hanagan and De Sousa are not going to be so badly effected by their new jobs. De Sousa is still the number one for MJ and Hanagan is still getting plenty of rides from Fahey and is off to his usual flyer. They will both go close again this year.
Interesting looking at Saturday’s 3.45 at Kempton. Two Godolphin horses, one to be ridden by Dettori, the other by Barcelona with SDS on a MJ horse.
Hughes’ loss is Ryan Moore’s gain as he is being given the Hannon horses to ride. Hannon yet to train a winner though.
For me it will be between SDS, Hanagan and Moore with preference still for the Brazilian.

April 6, 2012 at 08:18 #399421Does the present Mrs Joni like the idea of you having a Brazilian? That rather added to the sunshine this morning.

Unfortunately she is more like the Jackson 5!

April 6, 2012 at 15:33 #399478In other words your misses looks like Michael Jackson ?
April 6, 2012 at 17:40 #399510You need to be a fan of Keith Lemon to get it. Think of their hair.
Loving the Masters but how annoying that TV coverage doesnt start til 7! It’s like the old days watching the scoreboard on ceefax! Noone getting away so looks tailor made for a bloody Tiger charge!

April 6, 2012 at 20:02 #399524So Mr Al Z gets his season up and running tomorrow and his runners will be my only bets of the day as I am taking Otis and Iris to Diggerland first thing! They are two and a half now and Oti is obsessed with diggers and tractors – as his dadida was at that age!
In the 2-05 at Kempton
Double Dealer
will start favourite but he was steadily progressive last year and this looks less competitive that his last two starts so I think he deserves to be. He still looks to be on a decent mark and has proved himself round the track. I am backing him to win at 7-2.
He runs two in the 3.45 and Dettori prefers
Witnessed
who won his only start at 2. I have backed her to win at 9-2. His other runner
Tactfully
won impressively first time out before disappointing in the Montrose at Newmarket. A return to her earlier form might see her go close and I have backed her each way at 8-1.
As I said last week M AL Z had his horses super fit this time last year – I saw several of them at Newbury – so I am going to trust that he has them in the same sort of form this time round.

April 7, 2012 at 08:33 #399567Happy to see my magnificent 7 making the cut! 5 of them still very much in contention as well.

April 8, 2012 at 23:21 #399735My picks are:
Rory McIlroy to win at 13-2. A big price for someone who has finished in the top 5 in almost every tournament this year and who showed last year that he can rip up this course.
Phil Mickelson to win at 12-1. Again a big price for a multiple winner who showed he is in very good form last week.
Justin Rose ew 30-1. Consistent performer this year and has won an event. His time could well be nigh.
Bubba Watson ew 45-1. Another high performer this year.
Charl Schwartzel ew 45-1. As above and a major winner.
Graeme McDowell ew 66-1. Has shown flasheds of his best form this year and has the game to win it.
YE Yang ew 140-1. I always back him and I hope he will come good one of these days!
Well my four legged friends didn’t quite do the business for me this weekend although I thought Double Dealer was a touch unlucky.
HOWEVER my two legged ones have been fantastic! What a Masters! So many could have won it and there were a few hard luck stories out there. Mickelson on the 4th was surreal and Westwood would have walked it if he could putt even as well as me! I heard that heading into the final round he had had 21 more putts than Mickelson!
For me personally it has been great – all 7 of my picks made the cut and 4 of them made the top 12. As I type the Bubba and Louis are playing off down the 18th! I am covered on both now but obviously would love Bubba to win.
Back to the horses tomorrow!

April 8, 2012 at 23:46 #399737Go Blubba!!!! I was weeping with him. Week 1 25-1 winner, week 2 45-1 winner, now watch me pick the 100-1 winner of the Grand National!

April 9, 2012 at 08:51 #399754Well done Joni. I had a in play bet on BW when he was 9/4 and Kuchar put his ball to the right of the par 3. That was just some finish. I wouldn’t have minded a bit of the 45s though. Ya jammy sod.
April 9, 2012 at 08:59 #399755Yes I had to hold my nerve when Kuchar eagled the 15th and Westwood started to close in but Louis and Blubber were so in the zone they never really looked like faltering. Oosthuizen will win plenty of majors I reckon. The way he holes out is absolutely nerveless.
On to today and nothing really stands out so will leave well alone. However I will be keeping an eye on Yarmouth when M Al Z has several short priced favs. Again interesting to note that in the race where he has 2 runners Barcelona again gets the ride. Is that a pecking order or do they just want to give him experience round these tracks? I suppose they know that SDS can always get a ride for MJ and lots of those are owned by Sheik Mo anyway.

April 9, 2012 at 20:02 #399815Bubba Watson ew 45-1. Another high performer this year.
Bit like yourself Joni! Keep up the good work.
April 11, 2012 at 14:21 #399988So my mate Cecil gets his campaign up and running this afternoon.
Solar Sky
is expected to make up into a Cup horse this year and certainly showed a lot of promise last year especially when narrowly failing to win The Queens Vase at Royal Ascot. (Still can’t believe Namibian kept that race!).
Over the next few weeks you will see all Cecil’s horses ridden very tenderly by TQ as the trainer never wants them to do too much first time out. He only rides them out if they have a chance of winnning and I will be watching more than anything to begin with. I have just had a small win bet on this one simply because I would kick myself if it won and I do think it will end up being the best horse in the race.

April 11, 2012 at 14:53 #399989Yes "tender" just about sums that ride up. Still I thought he showed promise and will improve a ton for that over further and on better ground. Cecil did say he would benefit if there was a drought this Summer!

April 13, 2012 at 13:53 #400338Ahhhh it was you who mentioned Abtaal, and not Ginge. I thought he ran quite well in France. So my question is, how do you think his pedigree effect his chances ? I’m not so sure about the French milers over the last few years. My problem is that i find it hard to get a horse out of my head, and if i don’t back it, it could win. I can’t make heads nor tails with this one. I’m thinking of just sticking to BTS.
