Well if I am going to get beat it might as well be by a Cecil horse. Delighted at that – she could be a very nice horse next year. Thistle Bird took an age to get going.

So I suppose you are expecting me to be all over Beauty Parlour tomorrow…….I am not.

As much as I would love her to win and go on to the QEII I have a few concerns. I am worried that she has been absent for some time. I am worried that her homework has not been brilliant. And I am worried that her form is not actually THAT good. A 1 length defeat of Up doesnt look quite so strong now as it may have done at the time.

Elusive Kate is also a very worthy opponent. Ultra consistent and seems better than ever this year running a close second in the Falmouth on her return, winning a Group 1 next time and then running a terrific race against the colts in the Moulin. I think she should be favourite.

I am a stickler for loyalty and

    Chachamaidee

has rarely let me down. She is slightly better at 7f than a mile but the drying ground will help and I think she will at least finish in the three. I have backed her ew 6-1.

A horse I have been waiting to see since he ran a couple of weeks ago turned out today and won at a nice 6-1.

    Homeric

looks like he could be a decent horse and I will be interested to see his handicap mark as he met trouble in running today and only just got home. I think he will be well suited by a more galloping track as he is quite big – so keep an eye out for this son of Montjeu.

    Here’s a Picture of

    Homeric

‘Mother Hen’,I took it on his debut at Nottingham last November,I actually put him up on my ‘Gone Fishing’ thread on the same day at 25/1 so you could say I’ve been keeping my eye on him for quite a while eh? 8)

    The more I watch that

    Viztoria

race the more I like her. She wins her races by a mile in a way that reminds me of another horse whose name escapes me right now……….

Maybe she is just a soft ground specialist but I am prepared to take that chance. 16-1 for next years 1,000 Guineas? Oh go on then!

You would have to be CERTIFYable to back anything else!!!!

Remember this fellow from our Newbury meet up Joni?I recall mentioning he was my Paddock Pick at the time, well backed at 7/2 but ran like a horse who needed it badly!

Remember it well Gord. Has been gelded apparently – could be running off a nice mark…..hope you backed it today.

He was my banker for Nottingham today and I never bothered going, went over to my Mothers to do some maintenance work instead, came home and you know when you get that feeling looking through the results that he was going to win………and he did and I never had a bet!
Another one from our Newbury meeting to watch out for in something like the ‘November Handicap’ is

    Hajras

,he’ll get top weight but he’s a massively improved 3yo imo.

That’s always the way! Completely agree about Hajras – showed a smart turn of foot as well.

At current prices I agree Joni. 16/1 is too big to ignore.

Just watched the race again, Viztoria’s action is not that of a soft ground performer so it shouldn’t hold her back.

Winning margins in very soft/heavy ground are often misleading. If I had a quid for every "superstar" who sluiced up in the gutters and then had their bubble burst later, I wouldn’t need to work as a gigolo on the side ;)

Not a bad horse to have in Scrabble though!!

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

You do make me laugh Steve!

Couldnt agree more about soft ground winning margins but like The Ginge I got the impression she would be equally effective on better ground. IF she is, 16’s is a good price.

The other bets I have been looking at involve the trainers championship for which I have John Gosden at 7-2 (now 3’s) and Sir Henry at 33’s (still same price) and my original 12-1 bet at the start of the season. AOB is still 1-5.

These odds puzzle me. AOB is currently £150,000 ahead of JG and 1.3 mill ahead of Sir H. There are 4 very big prizes to be won plus some smaller but still significant Group 1’s and Sales races.

The 4 biggies are the Juddmonte ($411,000), The Leger (£311,000), The Champion (£737,000) and The QEII (£567,000).

Now what odds would you give me on a Frankel double in the Juddmonte and Champion? Together they are worth £1,150,000 which would put him level with John G. Obviously AOB holds the ace in the Leger but JG and Sir H are well represented in that race too. The QEII is the intended race for Beauty Parlour and JG has Elusive Kate among his entries. AOB has Excelebration.

Clearly there are the 2 year old Group races to come and AOB will probably have plenty running for him there but the other two will pick up smaller prize money when AOB is in Ireland.

For me it is a lot closer than the current odds suggest anyway.

You win some you lose some I suppose. My SDS bet was on the skids virtually from the off but Johnny G is doing me proud. Has almost a half mill lead on AOB now so Excelebration would have to win and JG not to win a penny on Champions Day for AOB to have any chance. Bearing in mind he should have Elusive Kate and possibly Nathaniel and Great Heavens that would seem unlikely.

So I reckon you could give me 5 go’s at picking the winner of the Arc today and I would still end up losing my dough. I really haven’t a clue to be honest. I had already backed the winner months ago but he got a bloody temperature this week and doesnt run. He would have loved todays conditions and would have sluiced home. If HE hadn’t the German mare would but she has now been imprisoned in Cologne for reasons I can’t quite work out so SHe doesn’t run either!!!

In their absence all I have is an old ante post on Sea Moon at 14’s and to be honest I will probably leave it at that – even though he comes up short in Group 1 races he does at least handle the soft and probably has as good a chance as any.

I can’t be backing Great Heavens at 13-2 but she could stay on into a place I suppose and who knows how the Japanese horse will go on the ground and from that draw. If he handles it he must surely go close.

One thing I would say – if Camelot can win on this ground and after what happened at Doncaster he is some horse. I can’t see it happening though as all I CAN see when I think of Camelot is him struggling through the mud to only just beat the donkey that was Born To Sea. Surely that form means he has no chance today.

The only other one I would like to see run well is SNA as I have always thought he was a good horse. Again conditions have gone against him but he has shown good form on soft ground so if I DO back anything else it may well be him.

All in all a race to watch for me.

A good card at Newmarket tomorrow but am I the only one who can’t quite get worked up about Future Champions Day this year?

The obvious problem seems to be The Dewhurst and Middle Park being run on the same card and as a result the best horses are avoiding each other. Dawn Approach has what seems a penalty kick (Ashdan surely has too much to find and those are 3rd division Coolmore runners). The Middle Park looks a bit more open but how much better would it have been if they were all in the same race?

A big day for Gordon with his big 3 for next year running! Of the three my preference is for Cristopher Colombo. I saw him at Ascot and thought he looked a scopey sort who should improve as he gets older (much like his stablemate that day Lines of Battle who won well tonight).

The only horse I will be backing however is

    Stipulate

in the 5-15 (win 6-1). I have mentioned him several times before and I thought he ran better than his finishing position suggested last time out. I reckon 9f on Good to Soft is about his ideal trip and he always seems to run well on the Rowley Mile. As long as he doesnt get done by the draw I think he will go close. I still think he could be a G1 horse next year.

BTW if The Blessed Martin is out there – I read today that

    World Domination

is back at Warren Place and has, once again, been burning up the gallops. I thought they had given up on him but apparently not and the November Handicap is his intended target. Watch this space……
