wow – unlucky not to have a 28-1 winner there. If the bloody thing learns to leave the stalls he could be a Leger horse.

A great day with two good winners and an unlucky loser. The Appleby 2 year olds can be backed blind – that’s 4 for 4 now and this one looked smart as he looked beaten a furlong out. Ryan rode a masterful race on Mix and Mingle and I’m so glad to see her finally justifying her reputation. Chris Wall is one of racing’s good guys as well and deserves all the success. Glencadam Glory looks a Leger horse to me though I’d be careful about early bets as Gosden normally has a surprise or two up his sleeve and might end up sending this one to a King George or something silly like that! Senga was very disappointing but the ground went totally against her.

Tomorrow I am super confident about Orderofthegarter especially now it has turned soft. He’ll love that ground so I have gone in again as I can’t believe his price. I also think Lady Frankel will go well over the extra 2 furlongs and with that cut.

    £75ew Orderofthegarter – 13-2 – French 2,000 Guineas loser
    £35ew Lady Frankel – 6-1 – Prix Alary loser
    £15ew double

Yes your horse ran well there Joni,a damn sight better than mine.I cant even see Tartini winning the Leger after that never mind the Derby. The winner Best solution giving 5lb away ran a proper Derby trial and at 16/1 is the most over-priced horse of all the Derby trial Winners I’d say.

Agreed Gordio – though may be dependent on some juice no?

My line of thinking there Joni is if ‘Tartini’ ran his race and improved from his Epsom run,we were told he needed a bit of cut to show his best and he got it but looked very poor in defeat then Best solution giving 5lb away really did run a screamer.I thought ‘Best of days’ was given a shocker of a ride against ‘Cliffs of Moher’ at Chester but did frank the ‘Cracksman’ form as has ‘Permian’ so at 16/1 I do like ‘Best solution’.

Hi Darren – I’ve been working a lot recently so haven’t had the time to really look at tomorrow’s race but the rain has thrown all the cards up in the air anyway. I mean, how do we know which of these inexperienced horses will handle the soft conditions. It may even be that they don’t run Cracksman if it gets TOO soft. Personally I think he’ll handle it but it might take too much out of him with the Derby just round the corner. You have done brilliantly to get the big prices but the gamble on the Stoute horse doesn’t interest me. It is only happening because it is Stoute – if it was Varian or Balding or Botti or Ellsworth he would be 25-1. He has a lot to prove.

Triptych is/was on holiday and hasn’t been able to access the forum. She pm’ed me the other day so I know she is alive and well! I’m sure she’ll back on board soon enough. Hope so!!!

Very disappointing that Cracksman doesn’t run today and I have just seen that JG has taken So Mi Dar out as well!! This leaves the race wide open for her stablemate who loves juice and receives 3lb off the Queen’s filly.

    £100 win The Black Princess – 5-2 – 2.55 York loser

I always defend him Theo but I think he has been a bit too cautious today. The times suggest the going is only good to soft. Very disappointing.

I have a couple of sneaky ew’s. Can’t let a Frankel go unbacked at 20’S! And I hear big things about this Chelsea Lad so prepared to give him another chance. Have backed Stoute’s class horse as well.

    £25ew Swiss Storm – 20-1 – 3.30 Dante loser
    £25ew Clesea Lad – 11-2 – 4.05 York placed
    £25ew Thikriyaat – 9-1 – 4.05 York loser

With all the rain around I think it is wise to tread carefully so only one race that I am focussing on today. The Yorkshire Cup looks a very good race and a case can be made for almost all the 8 runners. For several of them it will be their first run of the season and it is quite an ask to come and win this race against race-fit rivals on this sort of ground. The two I most like are Marmelo and Muntahaa. Marmelo has done very little wrong in his career so far and absolutely loves soft ground. He may not be as quick as some of these but he will be staying on when others have cried enough. I think Muntahaa is on the up and he was staying on as well as anything at the end of that Newbury race when he looked beaten half a furlong out. His action suggests he will handle the soft unlike Crimean Tatar who I think might struggle in it. Clever Cookie has chances on his best form and he also loves it soft but I have a feeling his best days are behind him. Dartmouth and Simple Verse are both horses I love and have backed many times but, like I said, this is a lot to ask of them first time out.

    £25ew Marmelo – 17-2 – Yorkshire Cup loser
    £25ew Muntahaa – 5-1 – Yorkshire Cup loser
£10 comb f/c Marmelo, Muntahaa and Dartmouth

Finding winners hard to come by this week but hopefully that will change tomorrow. I am a huge fan of Ribchester and fancy him to win the Lockinge. I have heard great things about Taamol and expect him to run a big race. You watch that bloody Seven Heavens go and beat it now!!

    £200 win Ribchester – 7-4 – Lockinge Newbury winner
    £100 win Taamol – 3-1 – 2.40 Newmarket winner
