A top day yesterday and two very impressive winners who will go a long way. So Di Mar has to have a fine chance in the Oaks as she has bags of class, a great turn of foot, plus she is guaranteed to stay AND handles the track. Obviously Minding is also top class so what a race it would be. I would slightly favour JG’s horse but it is gearing up to be the best Oaks in years. Castle Harbour is also a horse to follow. I love it when horses come there on the bridle like he did. JG mentioned the Jersey and he certainly wouldn’t look out of place.
On to today and I have gone a bit mad. 7 bets!! The racing is just sooooo good! At York I am starting with Lady of Dubai in the Middleton. She has some superb form last year finishing 3rd in the Oaks and apparently she has been working the house down for her new trainer who is starting to bang in the winners.
Then I am taking on Midterm in the Dante. Don’t get me wrong I would be delighted to see SMS have a good Derby horse and I have backed this one both times before but I just think he is too short for what he has actually done and it DOES concern me that he works so badly. I have had ew’s on the two Gosden horses as Wings Of Desire has been my main horse to follow from day 1 at Newmarket and JG wouldn’t be running him if he didn’t think he was up to it. But Foundation has done little wrong and I am sure he will improve for the step up in trip and better ground. If the fav wins then good luck to him but I am happy to take him on as others have better form.
I am on SMS in the next as I want to give Convey one more chance. He looked magnificent before hanging badly last time out but I am sure this horse has loads of ability and should be up to winning this if the head gear works.
Then I am back with Johnny G in the next when I fancy Exist to take care of these en route to better things.
Then over at Salisbury there are two Hugo Palmer maidens going who should both run well at nice prices. Ecureil was said to want a bit of cut – she has it – and Corked is expected to go close.
A fun and profitable day in store I hope!
£35ew Lady Of Dubai – 9-2 – 2.40 York lost
£35ew Wings of Desire – 13-2 – 3.15 York won
£35ew Foundation – 13-2 – 3.15 York placed
£35ew Convey – 9-1 – 3.45 York placed
£75 win Exist – 3-1 – 4.20 York lost
£25ew Ecureil – 9-1 – 3.00 Salisbury placed
£25ew Corked – 10-1 – 3.35 Salisbury lost

May 12, 2016 at 15:36 #1245513What a day! But I can’t help thinking of what might have been. Lady Of Dubai came there to win her race and then broke down, Wings of Desire was magnificent and then Convey was denied a clear run. On another day it might have been a big treble. Never mind. I am going to wait and see how Gulliver goes down to post but he could be one more bet today.

May 12, 2016 at 20:37 #1245576So I’ll be there tomorrow to witness Frankel’s first ever runner. I won’t be backing Cunco tonight as he is a short enough price for a first time out 2 year old but I am hoping he runs a nice race and that this is the start of another great chapter in the story of the world’s greatest ever racehorse.
A quieter day in prospect tomorrow with just the two bets. I was very taken with Czabo at Sandown and Mick Channon rates her very highly and expects her to be winning group races. She is a decent ew price for a filly who must go close. I have also backed Flying Officer as he ran a blinder at Ascot and has conditions to suit.
£75ew Czabo – 5-1 – 3.30 York loser
£75 win Flying Officer – 4.05 York non-runner
£25 win double"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"
May 13, 2016 at 15:06 #1245753Well that was AWESOME!!! Cunco had no right to win it as he was incredibly coltish in the paddock and keen on the way to post. But to be fair to him he settled beautifully and then showed his dad’s willingness to put his head down and stretch. He was flying at the line and Havlin couldn’t pull him up. He is going to be a very nice horse over 7f/1m. Can’t believe I didn’t back him!!!! Why didn’t I trust Frankel – he never lets me down. I have backed him for the Chesham and have backed Frankel to be top first time sire.
£100 win Cunco – 7-1 – Chesham – Royal Ascot
£150 win Frankel to be top first season sire – 5-1"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"
May 13, 2016 at 15:13 #1245755Anyone know how I can upload the photos from a mac?

A disappointing run from Czabo who never settled but a very impressive winner of that race. Nice to see the connections so happy as well.
On to tomorrow and really looking forward to meeting up with the crew at Newbury. At the moment it looks like I’ll have all three kiddies on board so not sure how much actual racing I’ll get to see! Certainly won’t have time for any bets so putting them up now. I have had 6 additional bets to my 2 Lockinge bets.
I read today that Eagle Top may well need this first run so I have taken him on with the improving Carnachy. I am back with Johnny G in the next where I think Remarkable may well start living up to his name.
I have had one more bet in the Lockinge as I think Mahsoob might be suited by the way the race is run tomorrow and will be finishing his race off strongly. This race is like a who’s who of my favourite horses with Euro Charlene and Arod running as well but conditions just aren’t going to suit them.
Southern Stars impressed me at Sandown so gets my vote in the next and Strong Steps should run well again off a similar mark to the one he ran off at Newmarket. Finally over at Doncaster I have missed the bigger prices about Symbolic but she is improving fast and should take a lot of beating.£35ew Carnachy – 4-1 – 2.45 Newbury lost
£35ew Remarkable – 4-1 – 3.20 Newbury placed
£35ew Mahsoob – 9-1 – 3.45 Newbury lost
£35ew Southern Stars – 6-1 – 5.05 Newbury lost
£35ew Strong Steps – 8-1 – 5.35 Newbury placed 11-1
£80 win Symbolic – 5-2 – 7.45 Doncaster lost
£1ew Lucky 63"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"
May 13, 2016 at 21:02 #12458021 more for you for tomorrow. Western Prince ran with promise at Newmarket but the bit seemed to slip at Windsor. 14’s is a decent ew price.
£25ew Western Prince – 14-1 – 2.25 Newmarket

Well an £800 profit on the day but such a mixed day I don’t know whether to feel happy or seriously p1ssed off!
The good first – 1. a great day with Nath, Ginge and Shirley. Wonderful company and so good to talk shop for a few hours with like-minded people. 2. A great winner in Belardo proving he is a decent horse who just had a bad year. 3. Some lovely types on view none more so than Imperial Aviator (backed by Nath) who looks a group horse in waiting.
The bad – 1. I arrived at Newbury in plenty of time for the 1st race. Got out of the car with my phone, wallet and binoculars. Walked 50 yards towards the entrance, checked my pocket for my wallet – gone. Retraced my footsteps, checked the car from top to bottom – nothing. Spent over an hour crawling under cars trying to find it – nothing. Thankfully had Nath’s number and he came and met me and lent me the entrance fee and more besides. What a 5 star gentleman! So lost all my cash, all my cards, driving license, Oyster card etc. Sooooo annoying. 2. Missed a 12-1 Hugo Palmer winner in We Are Ninety who I backed first time out but stupidly deserted. 3. Missed a 6-1 Hugo Palmer winner at Donny. Well you can’t back them all but I really have to learn to follow my in-form trainers.
So a mixed day indeed but meeting Ginge and Nath definitely the highlight!

May 14, 2016 at 23:33 #1246027Amazing just how quick a day at the races passes, gone in a flash.
Great to see you again Joni and Ginger and Shirley, I had to warn Mark and Shirley about kissing in public, puppy love eh.?
Unlike Joni who got a rollicking from Mrs Joni on the phone about losing his wallet, still when you get a new one you will have plenty of winnings thanks to Belardo to fill it up.
The group photo didn’t turn out any good mind as I thought I could edit with the lighting facility but that function is on my other camera not the one I brought with me today…..
Here’s a few of Belardo

Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
May 15, 2016 at 08:10 #1246044Great Pictures Nathan..that was a well deserved win for Belardo, I can just see Limato coming in 4th place and his action shows that he just didn’t relish the ground (he’s a true daisy cutter
).Joni .. what a nightmare losing your wallet before you even got through the gates, I’m so sorry and I truly know that feeling as we had a bag stolen at Valencia airport several years back containing all our holiday money, credit cards and worst of all our Passports. We were at the airport 3 hours filing police reports etc and arranging a trip to Alicante to the British Embassy for emergency passports to get home…it’s sickening but glad it didn’t spoil your meet up with the guys and gals.
Hugo Palmer is enjoying a real purple patch with his horses at the moment and for different reasons I also wish his We Are Ninety hadn’t get her neck in front of Beautiful Morning yesterday, the granddaughter of George Washington ran a brave race in defeat.
Annihilation of the day…LOG OUT ISLAND storming away with the Toronado Stakes (how appropriate) and now we know he is a true sprinter…Commonwealth Cup beckons I think.
Well done with all your winners Joni and hope your dinner wasn’t in the dog when you got home last night..Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...May 15, 2016 at 08:18 #1246045Nice one Nath. Shame about the group photo but these make up for it! Great seeing you too mate and PLEASE send me your details!!!
On to today and I have been looking forward to the French Guineas for a while now. I am hoping that with the switch to Deauville and the straight mile, there will be less hard-luck stories this year. In the 1,000 I am going to keep the faith with Antonoe but back her up with the favourite Qemah. Steve Caution put me on to Antonoe early last year and she looked extremely smart in her first two races. She then got injured in Prix Marcel Boussac and returned with a decent effort in 3rd behind the favourite. After the race Pascal Bary said that he was very pleased with the run as she hadn’t yet come in her coat and that there would be lots of improvement. Add the fact that she gets her ground today and I think she is decent ew value at 16’s. Saying all that Qemah has got better with each run and looked awesome last time out. Hard to believe but she was beaten 6 lengths by Antonoe on her debut but I think it is fair to say she has improved a lot since then. She might just be too classy for them.
In the 2,000 I have had to have a little bet on another huge eye-catcher for me – The Gurkha. I have a feeling this one will turn out to be Aiden’s best 3 year old colt and the way he won last time out was very impressive. The second in that race came out and ran very well in the Ballysax last weekend. I have backed TG for the Derby so I am almost hoping he doesn’t turn out to be a miler today but comes fast and late. He is obviously running on different ground today but he just looked special to me and I am confident he will go well.
£35ew Antonoe – 16-1 – French 1,000 Deauville
£80 win Qemah – 11-4 (she is available at 10-3 but I only have money in one account and have had to block all my cards
)
£35ew The Gurkha – 5-1 – French 2,000 Deauville"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"

That was absolutely spectacular from The Gurkha wasn’t it?! So nice when ones instincts are proved right – you get so many wrong!! Michael Tabor says they will be talking about The Derby now. I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed as I am sure it will just be a case of if he stays he wins. Wherever he ends up I can tell you that this is the class colt we have been waiting for.
