Banoffee for me, although I respect Secret Gesture after her demolition job LTO.
Joyeuse won well there FTO, didn’t need much persuasion. Looks a nice horse although would like to see her step up in class to reveal a bit more.
May 28, 2013 at 18:17 #441019Well done Joni, another nice winner to add to the thread! A good nice for Sir Hen!
May 28, 2013 at 18:19 #441020So I am going to pop in to Lingfield tomorrow to have a glimpse of this Joyeuse. Very exciting!
Meanwhile over at Yarmouth I am going to give one more chance to Zeyran. She looked a nice horse when I saw her at Donny but has disappointed twice since. I am hoping the drop back in trip will help her settle better and hopefully she will start to show her potential. A mark of 71 could look very lenient.
£100 win Zeyran 3-1 – Yarmouth 7.10
I remember talking to the owners of
Zeyran
at Nottingham one day,Mr Araci and his beautiful Daughter Zeynep,my arabic isn’t so good but we came to the same conclusion that this filly wants fast ground!!

A nice start for Joyeuse, I expect she will come on a fair bit for that and should be able to make her mark in better company, although it is early days to be galloping after Bet Victor’s quote of 25/1 for next year’s 1000 Guineas. Full brother Morpheus is still a maiden aged 3 after 3 runs, so she must be way more forward than he was. She touched 6/4 this evening but you would have needed to have been Usain Bolt and had the mobi on speed-dial to have caught it, as it lasted about as long as a Mayfly in a hailstorm!!
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

If Zeyran ever learns to settle she will be a decent horse. Yes Gord I remember you hounding those poor owners. They couldn’t escape – I’ll never forget their panicked faces.I popped into Lingfield for the first race only yesterday but boy was it worth it. Joyeuse is a lovely looking filly and she did it very well. The opposition might not have been up to much but I think she is going to be decent all the same. Teddy was there and, emboldened by our meeting at Doncaster when he was again accosted first by Gord, I asked if he was happy with that as a first run. "Very" was his reply. I also asked him about Sir Henry and I’m afraid he was putting on a brave face. I am very worried that he is badly ill.

May 29, 2013 at 15:29 #441088There seems to be a bit of fever generated by Joyeuse’s win. She is as low as 12/1 for the Guineas and that seems ridiculous when we are not even into June yet.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
May 29, 2013 at 16:43 #441090That’s understandable given her pedigree and winning costly yesterday, I for one sharn’t be piling into the 12/1 but if she continues to improve over the next year then that may seem rather big odds!
May 30, 2013 at 08:12 #441149Yes 12’s is a bit ridiculous. I am kicking myself as I checked before I went to Lingfield and Stan James had her quoted at 33’s. I have had a bit of fun at 16’s on Bet 365 more because I would never forgive myself if I didn’t and she ended the season even money.
I was watching the replay again last night and I have to say she shows that same sort of willing attitude that her brother had. She really wants to race and the most impressive part was the final 100 yards where she really started flying. It is far too early to say of course but she looks a nice prospect and there had been plenty of encouraging reports about her beforehand.
Today Sir Henry runs an interesting filly called Phaenomena and she is beautifully bred being a sister to Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Nightime. Being a Galileo she should have no problems with the soft ground and this 700,000 Guineas Niarchos purchase still has an entry in the Ribblesdale. She comes up against a good one in Vanity Rules but I was surprised to see her as short as 11-4 this morning. Those odds are a bit skinny for me as I don’t know much about how she has been working but they do suggest they expect her to run well. The stable are flying at the moment as well.
There is an excellent meeting at Sandown tonight and the two I like are Main Sequence and Mango Diva. Main Sequence has to beat Danadana who was impressive at Chester but the rain won’t have helped that one and I think Main Sequence will prove too classy. Mango Diva chased Hot Snap home first time out and then was a convincing winner last time out beating Strensa who has gone on to win. I think she might run well at a decent price so two small bets.
£50 win Main Sequence 11-4 – 7.50 Sandown
£25 ew Mango Diva – 5-1 – 8.20 Sandown"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"
May 30, 2013 at 17:27 #441200Will be fascinating to see how Joyeuse fares for sure.
Tonight I’m strangely drawn to Ley Hunter, who although ran abysmally in this race last year is given a chance to redeem himself still and is still in the hands of Bin Suroor. On less firm ground I’d give him a speculative shout after showing a decent level of form in France.
Agree on Main Sequence, a Derby second second fav against a group 3 performer with a penalty?! Has to be the value bet.
May 30, 2013 at 19:27 #441206Main Sequence was a shade disappointing again tonight. Didn’t realise until before the race that he’s been gelded which I find quite strange for a Derby 2nd. The commentators were also saying he has entries in races from 10 furlongs up to 14 furlongs. Looks as though the horse is losing it’s way a bit.
Like you Joni I’m concerned about Sir H’s health. When was the last time he was racing?
May 31, 2013 at 08:58 #441245£50 win Main Sequence 11-4 – 7.50 Sandown –
£25 ew Mango Diva – 5-1 – 8.20 Sandown –
Yes BM – I am very concerned. I haven’t seen him racing for ages and Teddy did not sound very positive I am afraid. Two seconds yesterday but somehow Bet365 paid me on Main Sequence! I checked the results again to see if I had missed a disqualifaction but no. I don’t think that has ever happened to me before! Not complaining mind!!!
Today I have my two Oaks bets running – Liber Nauticus and Secret Gesture and I am very hopeful that they will fight it out between them and that damn Moth will keep well away.
Elsewhere on the card I have had one bet in the opener on the ultra consistent Thistle Bird who should have come on from his first run and is surely guaranteed to finish in the three.
£25 ew Thistle Bird – 4-1 1.35 Epsom

Well I was counting my pennies two furlongs out as Secret Gesture and Liber Nauticus looked like they had it between them but Talent came aswooping and won very easily in the end. Did they go a bit quick from the front? Looks like they might have.Thistle Bird won well to keep the thread above water.

The way he’s going, that may have been done for the purpose of Plan B, over the sticks!!

June 2, 2013 at 12:00 #441577So some interesting moves taking place in the Derby market today. Kingsbarns is drifting like a barge and the likes of Mars, Telescope and Battle of Marengo are attracting support.
Of these and at the prices I really like
Battle of Marengo
. He improved with every race last year despite running on ground that he mostly didn’t like. He will be running in the Ballysax on Sunday and will shorten a lot if he wins.
He is beautifully bred and the Derby has always been the plan as he is almost certain to stay.
One or two bookies are still offering 16’s including Betfred so I will have some ew action.
£50ew – Battle Of Marengo 16-1 – Derby
Only just managed to watch this now as I am in Qatar again but how unlucky not to get a place!Today I have backed what I think might just be the best horse in Europe this year.
£150 win Intello 2-1 – French Derby

Well by all accounts that was impressive. This bloody hotel doesn’t let me look at anything dodgy which includes horse races!!! Seems Intello won easily though. A serious horse I think!Total £1,342
