Nath you have never MET me but you clearly KNOW me!!!! SOOOOOO frustrating!!!!!

I suppose Andre will be thinking Arc but is he really a mile and a half horse? I HOPE he comes over here and runs in the big 10f races. Maybe the Eclipse next? I think he is even better on faster ground as well. Very exciting horse and I would be very surprised if he didn’t turn out to be the best 3 year old colt in Europe.

Another big Intello fan here. Decided to take 16/1 for the Arc rather than backing him today but I’m happy enough. I think he’ll get 12 furlongs, he wasn’t stopping today and he has a wicked turn of foot. Arc contenders look a bit thin on the ground in my opinion, and there could still be value in the 8/1 currently available. Agree that he’ll be very hard to beat this season and he looks a cut above the three year olds in Ireland and England.

I’d rather post this on here because you guys know how much Sir Henry meant to me. My hero is gone.

I am choked guys. Absolutely choked. He has been a part of my life since I can remember. There is a big hole to fill. I would spend hours every day studying his horses, searching for sites or articles for anything I could find.

It is so wonderful that he went out on a high. I will be eternally grateful to him for the pleasure he gave me for over 40 years.

Rest in peace Sir Henry. I’ll really miss you mate.

    Very sorry Joni :(

It’s no consolation but he went out at the top of the sport and as you say, he’s given you forty years of immense pleasure. I’ve only followed the flat for 5 or 6 years but that time period, short though it was, was plenty long enough for me to learn that he was truly brilliant at what he did.

    Rest in peace Sir Henry.

We all know your love for Cecil and his horses Joni. Don’t really know what to say other than keep your chin up solider.

Terribly sad news Joni and although not a complete shock the news still hurts.
He was my hero too. I think I must be your long lost twin! as I studied his horses every other day, I went onto his website every day in life looking for updates and entries even in the the short dark days of winter.
Rest in peace Sir Henry gone but never forgotten.

Thank you guys. It is silly – I know EVERYONE is upset but it feels like such a personal loss. Like one of the family.

Reading the tributes has been very moving. The one that really got me was from his long time rival/adversary Sir Michael Stoute. He was big enough to say that Henry was probably the best trainer this country has ever produced and certainly the most loved. What a noble and magnanimous thing to say.

BM – I often think of you and Hammy as my Cecil soul brothers. I know that for you, like me, racing will never be the same again.

What wonderful memories though and I feel lucky to have been able to follow my sporting hero for so long. For it to culminate in Frankel after those lean years was more than we could have ever dreamed of.

It is raw tonight but what he achieved and what he meant to me will stay with me forever and give me a glow for the rest of my life.

A big week in store and several I will be hoping to win for obvious reasons. A couple of short priced certainties to kick things off and I wanted to grab these prices now as I feel they will shorten.

I just can’t see how Camelot can turn the form round with Al Kazeem – he was beaten fair and square.

Just the Judge is the best mile filly and I think she was unlucky to get nabbed in the Guineas. She’ll make amends here. I’ll double these up too.

£150 win Al Kazeem – 15-8 – Prince of Wales
    £150 win Just The Judge – 5-2 – Coronation
    £50 win double the two

    More to follow on Tuesday.

No Boz! Can’t see any odds quoted mate. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is as low as 7-4 as he should be running in the St James’. Well done you for getting that 10-1!!!!

None quoted matey, it took hours of phone calls to pull that one out the hat let me tell you! My advice is if you have the afternoon free get on the blower. If you back Billy Hills into a corner and tell them you’ve heard of bigger prices elsewhere there might still be some 8/1 knocking about. All the best anyway mate, you got us onto him in the first place so you need to join me in the fancy prices lounge

I’m on holiday Boz so will just have to wait til tomorrow when the prices appear.

The villa here has Channel 4 so will do my best to watch the racing without destroying my marriage! There are 4 races that interest me from a betting point of view.

In the opener I am keen to take on Animal Kingdom. He is obviously the best horse but is running in conditions that he will not have faced before and I think he is worth taking on. I have been looking at Elusive Kate but read today that gallops watchers are not sure she has trained on. So I have gone for

    Aljamaaher

    and

    Declaration of War

. The first names is very consistent and ran well in the Lockinge. I think 14-1 is decent each way value. DOW is clearly much better than he showed last time when he went off favourite for the Lockinge. He is still available at 8’s.

I am not normally one for the sprints but I like

    Reckless Abandon

and have taken the 9-2 each way.

I’ll be a little upset if Dawn Approach wins the St James. I don’t like the way Jim Bolger chucks his good horses at every race and I think he sometimes over-races them often winning nothing in the attempt to win everything. He told us the horse needed a long rest and now here is he is just two and a half weeks later. Not for me. Toronado has to be given that lacklustre effort last time but, if there were genuine excuses (something I am not always convinced of with the Hannons) he will go close. However, as long as he is over that little scare,

    Magician

has to be the one to beat. He was awesome in Ireland and seems to be on the upgrade. I have backed him to win at 5-2.

Finally I have backed two in the Ascot Stakes. I have always liked

    Homeric

and think he will go close and I can’t not back

    Tiger Cliff

as Sir Hen told Henry Ponsonby that he would win. I have backed them both at 14-1 and 11-2 respectively.

    £25 ew Aljamaaher – 14-1 – Queen Anne
£25 ew Declaration of War – 8-1 – Queen Anne
    £25 ew Reckless Abandon – 9-2 – Kings Stand
    £50 win Magician – 5-2 – St James Palace
    £25 ew Homeric – 14-1 – Ascot Stakes
    £25 ew Tiger Cliff – 11-2 – Ascot Stakes

A great start to the day and some top performances. I couldn’t have started any better with the first two home in the Queen Anne – as always when that happens you kick yourself for not doing the forecast!! The winner was very good and showed that Lockinge form to be all wrong but he would have been no match for Farhh. A shame we won’t get to see them race as Godolphin will keep Farhh and DA apart.

Talking of which I thought DA showed tremendous guts to win that today. He is clearly an exceptional horse – I just hope they give him a break now although I expect we’ll see him in the Irish Derby and the Eclipse over the coming weeks. Magician showed AOB that sometimes you need to just take it on the chin and wait for the next one.

I would be surprised if we didn’t see the Guineas winner in the Coventry. I haven’t been that impressed by a 2 year old since YOU KNOW WHO. Livid that Ladbrokes won’t let me get on at 10’s as I am in Spain!!!!

Should Tiger Cliff have won the Ascot Stakes? I am sure some would say yes but I don’t think we should take anything away from the winner who wasn’t stopping. Henry was spot on as usual and he certainly had a horse good enough to win the race – it just wasn’t meant to be today. I think there will be other winners from the stable this week though.

On to tomorrow but before that I am delighted to say Paddy Power are going 9’s about

    Cape Per

on on Friday! I have had my biggest bet of the season and just hope it doesn’t dry out too much!

    I have already confidently backed

    Al Kazeem

in the POW but I have just had three more bets.

In the first I have had a small each way on

    Montiridge

who I was impressed with last time out.

    Chigun

was awesome in Ireland and she has to go close. It looks a good race and she must do well to reverse placing with Dank on 3lb worse terms but I think she has the worst of the ground that day and can see her turning the tables.

My most confident selection tomorrow is

    Mango Diva

in the Sandringham. She has only been beaten by Hot Snap and Montiridge and nothing of that calibre runs in this. She has a very good mark and will take all the beating.

    £200ew Cape Peron – 9-1 – Brittania Stakes
    £25ew Montiridge – 11-2 – Jersey Stakes
    £75win Chigun – 7-2 – Duke Of Cambridge
    £75ew Mango Diva – 6-1 – Sandringham

One more for today. I like Clive Brittain’s filly in the Queen Mary. I was worried about her with Joyeuse so glad to see she is running here!
