    Have edited.
But I wish you’d think things through before spouting off about Frankie.

I entirely understand your sentiments, CAS.

There are ways of going about disagreeing with people and there’s a couple here who certainly don’t choose the same way most others do.

While not defending them, all I would say in mitigation is that, whenever they are getting a bit much, I remember that all is relative and in a TRF Offensive Remarks Handicap they’d both still be getting 35lb from Tank and Ricky Lake and getting beaten a distance.

    Always take the positives!

My father was self employed just like Frankie.
He chose to do less work leading up to his retirement.
It was not because he felt the work “beneath him”.
Neither was there a “touch of arrogance about that (his) attitude”.

    OK Ginger.

The phrase to which you took exception was intended as a figure of speech. It was not meant to be taken so literally but that kind of tone can often get lost in print rather than in speech.

I have read articles by Greg Wood and Chris Cook which both strongly hint that Dettori not riding very often is a factor in the split with Gosden. Neither man is in the habit of writing nonsense.

I would like to reiterate that I think Dettori has been treated in a disrespectful manner by Gosden. His “our hero” talk at Royal Ascot was unacceptable. I can understand why Gosden has evidently become annoyed by Dettori but he has handled it very badly. If anything, I have lost far more respect for Gosden in this saga than for Dettori.

Most sportspeople benefit from regular top class competition. Only in very rare instances (Serena Williams for example) is their talent so many levels higher that it transcends the beneficial aspects of regular top level competition.
That ability for successful split second decision making comes from keeping the razor sharp reflexes honed and triggered.
If you’re not competing at the top level regularly you’ll be at a significant disadvantage against those who are IMO. Whatever sport/game it is.

“I wouldn’t be surprised to see Dettori on Inspiral next time out – this saga isn’t over yet.”

Earlier in the thread, where’s the justice?

I’m not big on respecting anyone in racing, so Gosden never had much of my respect to lose.

But what little there was has gone.

Dettori is no angel either – but he’s the one who has copped for bad treatment here.

I see the owner of Stradivarius is mouthing off now – he’s clearly got as much quality as Gosden (none).

It’s the 21st century – you can reprimand in private, you can get rid if you like, but you don’t criticise employees of any sort publicly.

The public know this – that’s why they went mental at Newmarket when Dettori rode that winner on Saturday.

Know I’ll be criticised for saying it but…
I’ve seen on this forum connections criticised for not criticising their jockey’s ride. Speaking up for their jockey when he / she has clearly messed up.
Then when connections do criticise their jockey they’re criticised for criticising.

I’m not going to criticise you for saying that GT, but I will remind you that we’re all individuals here, not a collective, so we’re not responsible for conflicting alternative views others might post.

I, like you, have enough confidence in my own judgement that I don’t need it endorsing in public by connections.

As it happens, I think Dettori had a terrible Royal Ascot – and Saga win only was my biggest bet of the week.

But I don’t need Gosden to tell me the jockey should have not lain so far out of his ground.

And money I’ve won or lost has no bearing on how people should be treated.

Dettori is no angel, but he’s been publicly thrown under a bus by Gosden.

It’s the most appalling man management and there was simply no need for it.

I must admit I did not have the horse in mind when I used the word “saga”!

Happy for Mr Davies to take the credit instead.

That’s fair comment… when it is different individuals.

GT, if I’m ever guilty of contradicting myself I know I can rely on you to pick me up on it.

    And rightly so.

    Great Saga lines, chaps!

He will be playing a very small violin when his horse loses at goodwood without his regular jockey no doubt

Tbh, I don’t think Dettori gave Stradivarius a good ride in the Gold Cup.

We know he stays 2m4f, we knows at the age of eight the turn or foot isn’t what it was and Dettori is a good enough judge of pace to know they hadn’t gone that quick.

He lost his position at a vital stage and had to switch round horses to try to deliver a turn of foot that just wasn’t there any more.

Would he have won if he’d instead kicked for home on a proven stayer?

    I don’t know.

What I do think I know if that if there’s any ease in the ground and Trueshan runs he will simply be too good for him same as he has been all three times they’ve met.

He got criticised in 2021 for his ride when staying on the rail too long and finding trouble

2022 he makes sure this doesn’t happen by pulling the horse out and coming round horses, but unfortunately had he stayed on the rail like 2021 he’d have had a dream run up the inner

I’d say that’s just bad luck as much as anything

He’d have got berated had he stayed in the near rail and got stuck in a pocket again

Could he have been closer to the pace? Maybe but Strad has never been a prominent racer really. Would any jockey change successful tactics in such a big race?
