No problem with jockey changes – it was the public criticism that I felt was somewhat lacking in quality.

Agree 100%. Mind you, if he’d said nothing and suddenly announced Atzeni was riding Stradivarius I can’t imagine the fallout.
July 22, 2022 at 12:25 #1608042Hopefully both horses get royally stuffed. Utter nonsense whats going on with owners. Cant see any reason to take egan off mishriff. Soumillion went earlier than he wanted and dont think mishriff would have won. Same as the gold cup. Kyprios was finding again so doubt strad would have beaten him with a clear run. This constant changes of jockey just seems the trendy thing to do. Hornby not being on westover is just plain ridiculous after he rides two group one winners. Just looks like petulance from the owners.
July 23, 2022 at 16:22 #1608253I feel the master deserves some criticism too. Emily Upjohn’s intended race was the Irish Oaks a week ago. The trainer knew the opposition pretty good and decided to go for that target. Now, because your horse can’t travel over to Ireland doesn’t necessarily mean that the “next best” race, the G1 King George, is the best alternative. Mr. Gosden got it completely wrong imo, you can’t prepare the horse for one race and then approach the KG as the fitting alternative just because it takes place a week later.
None of the Epsom Oaks runners is even close to winning a 12 furlong race. He just got it wrong or maybe he was just the employee who had to listen to the boss (owners).
July 23, 2022 at 17:59 #1608266Poor choice of jockey for Saga, surprised at The Queen, needs an experienced jockey. He should have won at Royal Ascot but Frankie’s confidence was shot to bits by then and cost him the race. May still not have won today though.
July 23, 2022 at 21:59 #1608289What did frankie do wrong on saga at Royal ascot?
Just watched it back and he did a pretty good job of weaving through the field from what I saw, not like the horse was ever hard on the bridle stuck behind a wall of horses
July 24, 2022 at 08:37 #1608306Dettori gave Saga far too much to do at Royal Ascot.
To be fair they went a strong enough pace in the Britannia, but the horse was in an impossible position two furlongs out.
8lb higher and what looked a more moderate early pace to me yesterday did for the horse.

April 22, 2023 at 16:08 #1645021Unusually for the Italian jackass he’s blamed someone else
April 22, 2023 at 16:29 #1645027Looks like he got the fractions wrong in the maiden as well.
April 22, 2023 at 17:38 #1645032Not sure he is as competitive as he should be when riding in GB or Europe. It was a different story in the US where he started his farewell tour. But Mr. Gosden won’t be pleased to see 2022 repeating in 2023…..

The only thing I have seen in print from Dettori is: “I got bumped coming out of the stalls and my foot slipped out of the irons.”
Just go and have a look at the frame-by-frame video. After one stride out of the stalls, the horse from Stall 8 is in front of Stall 7 (Dettori) after two strides it is nearly in front of stall 6. The horse from stall 8 took Dettori’s horse from under him. Clear video and schoolboy physics, so why does that make Dettori a jackass? Or does jackass mean something different in your world?
April 23, 2023 at 16:43 #1645147Let’s not exaggerate stall 8 wasn’t even close to getting anywhere near stall 6. It was just a normal bump at the start. By the way, stall 6 did much more of a bump to stall 5 and nothing happened.
I guess it was a bit of both: a slight bump and also Dettori maybe having to get used to the European start again. Still, he isn’t a jackass for that unseat, but it adds some spice to that Gosden/Dettori relationship. Let’s see how the season works out.

Gosden does not train Chaldean, so why would it concern him?
April 23, 2023 at 17:06 #1645150There’s so much on this thread that makes me cringe, tbh, and “Mr” Gosden more than just about any of it.
No one else gets called “Mr,” so why him?
I don’t mind Dettori – he’s been a great jockey in his time and he’s still capable of a cracking big-race ride.
Who actually cares what Gosden thinks – if anything – about what happened yesterday?
Not me, that’s for sure.
