Think you could well be right Charles. If he does win tomorrow, do you think they might give up on the “The Fellow” plan and go Ryanair? Especially if Yorkhill hacks up in the Lexus.
December 9, 2017 at 22:44 #1331369I think it depends on whether Douvan and Min make it to Cheltenham. If they all do then I’m sure it’ll be Douvan in the Queen Mother, Min in the Ryanair (Ricci has stated he has a friendly competitive relationship with the Connells who own Un De Sceux) and they’ll continue with Djakadam in the Gold Cup. I think connections secretly believe that Djakadam will keep just coming up a bit short at the Festival no matter what race they contest with him so will be keen to plunder as many prizes throughout the season as possible. It’s why I feel he’ll be wound up for this whilst Jessie Harrington will have left something to work on with Sizing John.
December 10, 2017 at 00:41 #1331387Mullins words about Djakadam‘s fitness are probably just an excuse just in case he’s beaten – not being favourite this time. imo he should be. Djakadam is usually fit for his reappearance and if anything being fresh is the time to back him. Harrington isn’t in bad form, but not in the sort of form Mullins is. Would’ve thought Sizing John was more likely to need it than Djakadam. Sub Lieutenant isn’t out of it on his best form and may get a soft lead. But why was he so bad in the JN Wine? The rest don’t look up to this.
I’d rather back Djakadam @ 13/8 than John @ 6/5. Any market move for the Sub might be worth noting.
Value Is EverythingDecember 10, 2017 at 11:46 #1331436Bet Carlingford Loch @ 25’s W/O SJ. You can never rule him out at Punchestown on Heavy ground.

Jessie said SJ is sparkling at home and ready to go.

I don’t take much notice of that type of comment, ham. When it comes to a horse’s reappearance I take more notice of the horse’s record after a break (particularly this time of year) and current trainer form. Suspect Jessie’s comments are in order to make excuses as to why Sizing John did not go to Haydock. ie In effect “he wasn’t ready for Haydock but is now”. If all the trainers words are to be taken as read the market would make sure Sizing John is long odds-on and Djakadam a 3/1 shot. Despite both trainers words Djakadam’s price is shortening and Sizing John’s lengthening both last night and (so far) today. We shall see what happens from now to race time.
Value Is EverythingDecember 10, 2017 at 13:42 #1331467I think Sizing John is likely good and fit having had the extra couple of weeks since his original target; but probably be affected by the going more than Djak.
If I had to pick one it would be Djak but no bet for me today.December 10, 2017 at 13:56 #1331469If all the trainers words are to be taken as read the market would make sure Sizing John is long odds-on and Djakadam a 3/1 shot. Over this distance that arguably suits djakadam better than SJ is the reason SJ is not long odds on its nothing to do with reappearence, the ground obviously another factor
If it wasnt for douvan lastbyear SJ would be 3/3 on FTO appearances, so again, the pricing is to do with the trip/ground, not the reappearence
Was not indicating that SJ would win (as previously stated i backed SL AT 20s e/w) was merely speculating the trainer said he is sparkling at home, and sparkling was the exact quote, take what you will from that.
But your taking mullins saying djakadam isnt as fit as a reason to believe he is fit and your taking jessies comments about SJ as the opposite saying he wont be as fit, is ,just, plain, stupid.
December 10, 2017 at 14:07 #1331471No, ham.
I am saying take notice of other things, not what is said.Value Is EverythingDecember 10, 2017 at 14:13 #1331472Never said to take there word literally i was merely speculating what was said
I guess the comments were correct then from both trainers…
December 10, 2017 at 14:14 #1331473Well that was impressive. John is back and looking better than ever.
December 10, 2017 at 14:15 #1331475Wow that looked very hard work and you would have to wonder if KG will come too soon – Djakadam never looked happy at any stage during the race and never travelled like he normally does, can’t see him running in the KG either.
December 10, 2017 at 14:16 #1331476Class told and pretty happy with 2/1 BOG on SJ, not that I had a huge bet on it
December 10, 2017 at 14:16 #1331477Glad i took it antepost for 3 places now
Impressive from SJ
December 10, 2017 at 14:57 #1331486Missed seeing the race but heard the commentary (Scahill) who had him winning very comfortably. Got home and read that he’d won ‘easily’. Watched the race finish and he looked absolutely done in as they all did.
Ground must be desperate. He’s obviously a hugely tough, talented and consistent animal but I’ll hold off on any judgement for now on the big targets. All I’ll say is I doubt the Twister will be worrying about either the KG or the Gold Cup.
December 10, 2017 at 15:26 #1331489You’d have to imagine that Sizing John will run in the Lexus paving the way for Tizzard to send Fox Norton to Kempton.
December 10, 2017 at 15:46 #1331498I wouldn’t be surprised if Sizing John misses both the Lexus and the King George. The Lexus may well be run on testing ground and Jessie says the horse is a bad traveller so King George not a great option. Both races come quite soon after today’s hard race. I would guess he might go straight to Irish Gold Cup, then Cheltenham and try to repeat his 3 Gold Cups feat.
Where will Djak go next? If he is unsparkling and beaten a good way by SJ now then what hope of getting him firing for Lexus or King George. Mullins reckons he made a mistake running in the Cotswold the season before last. Tricky one.
