Having no alternative forced to watch Newcastle on ITV but did help me work out why that Leonna whatshername is on the rota of pundits …she even makes Fitzy sound like he talks sense and knows what he’s on about!
good luck to allApril 16, 2022 at 09:46 #1593939I literally just a few minutes ago downloaded the ITV Hub to my iPhone so I could watch the Opening Show and hopefully hear a going stick reading for Newbury.
I lasted less than a minute.
I simply cannot listen to people who know less about racing than I, or anybody I know, at best, stating the obvious or, at worst, talking drivel about the day’s racing.
App deleted.
I suffer from having followed the game almost 50 years, worked in the game most of that time and admittedly being incredibly arrogant.
I can count the number of people in the racing media whose independent opinions I would be interested in hearing on the fingers of one hand.
I’m sure I’m not the only person at TRF who feels this way.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"April 16, 2022 at 09:53 #1593940Guilty!

Rest assured, you are not!
I seldom watch ITV’s coverage. I accept it is broadcasting to a wider audience than a subscription channel like RTV but what I have seen is bland and dumbed down.
RTV’s coverage is obviously pitched at a racing audience but even its presenters vary in quality. The Craven Meeting coverage was superb this week because it was presented by Lydia Hislop and a good analyst on two of the days (Sam Turner and Eddie Fremantle). Unfortunately, not all the presenters are as good as Lydia. Her journalistic background is in stark contrast to some of the lightweights.
April 16, 2022 at 10:18 #1593956100% this.^
RacingTV is a LOT better for me, but it absolutely lacks quality in depth.
Lydia Hislop is head and shoulders above the rest as an anchor for a racing broadcast, more intelligent, more knowledgeable, more independently-minded, and ready to challenge what she feels should be challenged.
I don’t always agree with her, but I absolutely respect her ability and integrity.
And I could listen to Eddie Fremantle on racing all day – he’s an intelligent, articulate, professional punter: end of.
After that, I’m struggling, though….

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"April 16, 2022 at 10:39 #1593967RTV gets it the wrong way around at Cheltenham. Lydia Hislop should be the main presenter and Nick Luck in the interviewer role.
I am sure the likes of Tom Stanley, Nick Lightfoot and Rachel Casey are nice people but they are lightweight presenters and very unlikely to ask difficult questions when they need asking. Would they have called out Henderson’s ridiculous statements on Tingle Creek day, like Hislop did?
April 16, 2022 at 11:12 #1593973It shows you the deferential state of the UK broadcast media that, when Lydia Hislop merely challenges Nicky Henderson over the state of the ground, she instantly acquires the same cult status as an Emily Maitlis or a Jeremy Paxman back in the day.
Hardly anyone will ask a challenging question in this game.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"April 16, 2022 at 13:26 #1594047My gripe with RTV, or was when I was a subscriber, was the influence that the big bookmakers seem to have. Having paid a subscription and the to be told today’s coverage is “powered by XXXx XXXXX bookmakers” used to wind me up and as already been said there was a lot of deadwood and total bluffers on the team, I think Jonathan Neesom added quite a bit to the coverage as wll< ian.
April 16, 2022 at 13:55 #1594057RTV is often wall to wall racing on a Saturday. Just now they went to Newbury literally as the stalls were just about to open for a Group 3. No chance to see the horses beforehand because of the vital matter of having to show a handicap Chase at Carlisle.
April 17, 2022 at 15:08 #1594228I was late in and hoping to see the big match after the BBC news last night, and was ready with the mute button and to change channel when the sport came on.
I suddenly heard ” and Liverpool continue ( so she told everyone they won )
The ITV news a little later said.
It was a special contest at … and showed the match with the goals one by one leaving the result til the end. ( Nicely done )
As it happened they didn’t show the cup game just league matches so I switched to something else …
BBC O….ITV…1
June 3, 2022 at 16:35 #1600238In case you haven’t heard it’s Tuesdays birthday.
They have only mentioned it about 10 times so you may have missed it.
I think she will open her cards after the race but no birthday cake unless she wins
Btw it’s Tuesdays birthday today..🎂Blackbeard to conquer the World
June 3, 2022 at 18:02 #1600280Apart from the item on Lester Piggott and a swift listen to Steve Cauthen, it was full on mute button chez moi this afternoon and consequently I really enjoyed the Show.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"June 3, 2022 at 18:54 #1600291I did a fair bit of pause, fast forward and mute but was lucky enough to catch Adele Mulrennan saying Oh This Is looks a picture 5 times in her paddock masterclass. Sorry Adele but I preferred Jimmy Lindley’s ‘pitcher’.
June 3, 2022 at 20:05 #1600303Can’t understand why they don’t just pay Ken Pitterson for a proper (and succinct) analysis and do away with these breathless “on the hoof” paddock reports. That said, at least we did get a good look at all today’s Oaks runners and most of the commentary was useful, with Weaver & Cauthen offering worthwhile insights.
June 3, 2022 at 21:51 #1600330ITV racing playing around with camera angles, providing a brief overhead during the actual race!
Forget it boys! Best left til the race is run then use when you analyse it to death.Talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk ……….. Sometimes a view can say a thousand words without saying anything, but unless someone is talking ITV racing ain’t happy.

Oh, yes, I unmuted to listen to Ken too – excellent, speaks with confidence and authority plus he’s straight to the point and seems a really nice chap.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"June 4, 2022 at 00:18 #1600370As usual spoiled it with the unlucky frankie nonsense. Its called race riding and the start is part of that. They also conveniently forgot that tuesday has just turned 3 so is bound to come on for the race and could easily get much better. They need to seem to have a theme for each race and this was unlucky frankie today. I wish they would just let the likes of jason weaver do the analysing. No hype just an intelligent look at the race. As for the runner up being fav for the arc. Words fail me.
