Thanks for that reply Marlingford, reading my post back I thought it almost sounded cheeky to you, which obviously wasn’t the case.
That’s a fair point regarding anyone doing it better, I definitely can’t argue with that.
Good to agree to disagree on something now and then.
April 17, 2021 at 22:06 #1536977ITV, they have thrown bodies at the programme thinking if they cover absolutely every angle it should provide coverage that people will want to tune into.
Truth is, how many people have recorded the racing, then when coming to watching it just fast forward to watch the races. Quite a few I’m sure!
Just goes to show despite ITV attempts, to the viewers the racing IS more important than the presenters. The presenters are just there to fill the bits in between races.
So you can try as much as you like, to the viewers the horses and racing are the main attraction, so ITV might as well trim their presenter budget considerably.
They don’t need more than 3 on there in one programme, not 12!April 17, 2021 at 22:28 #1536981There was a lady (not sure of her name) on sky sports racing and she was at the parade ring and she was talking through every runner about how fit they looked and wether they were in their coat etc I don’t think this is shown enough is there a reason for this?

April 18, 2021 at 00:03 #1536987Jimmy Gimini, more time used to be spent on looking at the runners in the paddock and on the way down to the start. Nowadays the non-specialist broadcasters prefer to show more interviews etc., presumably in an attempt to highlight the human side of the sport and make it more “relatable”.
I’d like to see the balance shift back somewhat the other way. Nowadays pre-race coverage of the runners is often rushed or sometimes virtually non-existant. To be fair to ITV Racing, this trend had started long before they came into being. Ultimately horse racing is about the horses, and there needs to be a bit more confidence in the core product.
April 18, 2021 at 11:53 #1537020I just think ITV have too many presenters, and would say on this alone they have made their programme more about people than the horses.
Nothing to disagree with in this statement. Too many presenters, and too many ex-jockeys. The horses are becoming incidental. If one wins, it’s because of a “good ride”. We all know that it can happen and also cite plenty of instances of where a lousy ride has cost a horse the race but it’s always an unsatisfactory result. Generally, the best horse wins, regardless of who is riding. If this wasn’t the case, why bother with a multi-million pound industry dedicated to breeding from the best? I suppose the Grand National was a special case this year but it’s still sad that Minella Times barely got a mention for his performance. For racing fans, it’s about the horses. That’s why most of us on this forum aren’t interested in the Shergar Cup!
April 18, 2021 at 12:27 #1537025I only watch racing on ITV if I have no option which thankfully is rare.
While I don’t have Sky,find their coverage from what I’ve seen wooden and boring, one thing about ITV has puzzled me.
Perhaps this may be because of my limited viewing?
However I shall ask anyway …..who the hell are all these new women presenters and where they appear from?
I subscribe to Racing TV and have done so for years first via Virgin Media but over the last few years directly after cancelling Virgin Media tv.I know RTV isn’t always perfect but besides the live racing coverage I find it particularly useful for in depth research into selections I’m considering advancing for ‘Tails from the blackcountry’ or VtC’s excellent thread on flat horses of interest.
However I divulge from the theme….. but my question still stands….who are these women and why does ITV think it needs still more presenters?
good luck to allApril 18, 2021 at 12:30 #1537026I believe Adele Mulrennan (Paul’s wife) has started working for ITV. She has been a race day presenter on some of the Yorkshire racecourses for a few years now and presumably came to the attention of ITV via that role.
April 18, 2021 at 12:43 #1537030My TV preferences when both on –
ITV for parade ring preview. I avoid Lydia ‘interesting’ Hislop.
The races/commentary – Not Hoiles.
Social stable on ITV – switch over. Not interested.
Everything else – mainly Racing TV but occasionally switch between the two depending on what they are showing/talking about.April 18, 2021 at 14:14 #1537055Haha Chapman reeling off Nell Gwynn past winners when the race was the Dubai Duty Free Stakes. Terrible.
April 18, 2021 at 19:57 #1537160Adele Mulrennan, Leona Mayor and Natalie Green I’m afraid add the sum total of zero to the ITV racing coverage ……tokenism at its very worst ….
April 23, 2021 at 13:30 #1537586ITV racing play on emotions more so a death in the family.
April 23, 2021 at 13:57 #1537589I’ve never sat on a horse in my life, but Rifleman veered sharply away from the whip. What are they rattling on about, Cumani wondering if the horse something off camera. Open your eyes.

April 23, 2021 at 14:32 #1537592“Adele Mulrennan, Leona Mayor and Natalie Green I’m afraid add the sum total of zero to the ITV racing coverage ……”
Disagree; they add to my desire to reach for the mute button.
April 23, 2021 at 14:40 #1537593Leonna Mayor actually manages to make Cumani look good. No mean feat…
May 5, 2021 at 16:47 #1539798While accepting that ITV racing may be attempting to attract a wider audience as Ed Chamberlin and one or two on here often tell us, I’m puzzled why my ITV racing picture is cluttered with furlong by furlong sectional times, miles per hour and a racetime clock, with almost zero analysis by the ITV “experts”.
They will have zero interest to 99% of ITV viewers, including me, so why have we got them? -
