I’m almost tempted to tune in to count the number of times I hear interesting !!
🐢…this is hardly twitter. When is the next bus coming for shell’s sake ?
March 15, 2021 at 04:54 #1529560” And there’s an Irish fella, who just mumbles, can’t think of his name off the top of his head, he is terrible to my ears “.
Niall Hannity? If so , he gabbles i.e. “talks rapidly and
unintelligibly “. He is not comfortable doing interviews so they rarely last more than 60 seconds .March 15, 2021 at 07:46 #1529565“She’s been a lot better on the podcasts with Ruby, using a much more varied vocabulary.”
Let’s agree to disagree, shall we?
March 15, 2021 at 07:51 #1529567Less than 30 hours until the first race, mute button at the ready, iPhone on hand in case the blimp/zoom-in arty-farty camera work is just too annoying and I need to watch conventional pictures instead.
The first – and last rule – of watching televised racing and staying serene: silence is golden!
Mute, mute, mute!

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"March 15, 2021 at 08:51 #1529572Jaywalker yep that’s him.
March 15, 2021 at 10:20 #1529586Ah well at least Ed and Fitzy will have to find something else to ramble on about on ad nauseam on Wednesday now Altior is a non runner…..
March 15, 2021 at 14:16 #1529627I completely agree Tonge about the rose tinted spectacles.
I watched an Ayr chase from 1981 on YouTube last week where they only showed the leaders jumping the fences in the back straight(my biggest pet hate).
Then there was Sir Peter getting Norton’s Coins name wrong throughout a Mira showers handicap at Cheltenham.
It seems everyone has forgotten the days before C4 picked up Cheltenham when they went weeks at a time without showing any racing in the winter.
And don’t get me started on Francome who may have been a good laugh but whose entire post race analysis for EVERY race consisted of telling us what a great ride the winning jockey gave his mount. And he famously said he would never criticise any jockey.
ITV have their faults but they are nowhere near as bad as people make out here. And why are SSR never criticised on here? Is it because they are free and RUK charges a subscription?
March 15, 2021 at 14:54 #1529634SSR aren’t criticised because everyone knows they are bad already.
March 15, 2021 at 15:06 #1529637The rose-tinted 70s brigade fail to remember that most horses in a race in that era didn’t used to get a mention from the commentators they glorify from those times, even when they fell or pulled up.
That all said, there are some proper entitled moaning minnies in here. I’d love to see some of you present a show, offer the analysis and make tips that win every single race, as you feel that they ought to do. And then to also appeal to both racing obsessives and to granny who likes a 5p Lucky 15 at the same time.
That all said, Cumani, dearie me.
March 15, 2021 at 15:49 #1529643Well said QF.
I would happily see the back of Cumani, Plunkett, McCoy and the Social stable.
But I really like the looks behind the scenes, the name check for the winning groom after most races and the enthusiasm and knowledge that Chamberlin brings to the show.
Meanwhile for years people have criticised the tv channels on this forum for not showing the horses in the paddock and then when they do we complain about how they are described!!
Mind you if I hear one more jockey or trainer described as “in form” I’m taking it all back.

Maddy Playle is another one on preview podcasts. In full flow in the Tuesday Cheltenham preview on Racing Post. Painful listen. Lol
March 16, 2021 at 06:34 #1529769What is SSR?
I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains
I've walked and I crawled on six crooked highwaysMarch 16, 2021 at 07:00 #1529770I don’t recall writing that all the presenters, pundits and commentators were individually better back in the 1970s – my point is that the format was better.
Most viewers are punters, they watch for the actual racing, not the stuff inbetween, and the old no-frills ITV7 with a race every 15 minutes was just the ticket.
I don’t recall saying C4 Racing was any better either – in fact they started the zoom-in slide downhill.
Anyway, it’s almost upon us, mute button at the ready, iPhone on standby in case the arty-farty ITV camerawork is too much to bear and I need try another platform to watch the races themselves, can’t wait!

March 16, 2021 at 07:24 #1529774Thank you. I didn’t think that was free though?
I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains
I've walked and I crawled on six crooked highwaysMarch 16, 2021 at 08:09 #1529776As far as I am aware, it is part of the basic subscription Sky package. You do not need to buy the additional Sky Sports subscription to receive it.
March 16, 2021 at 08:34 #1529780Ian on what other platforms do you use to watch the racing as I call proper. That is as if watching from the stands. I detest theses moving cameras that follow in front and yoou can only make out about 2-3 horses and you miss the ones that make mistakes etc.
Plus it gives me a headache too watching it like that.
Any suggestions welcomed -
