Given that ITV have stated that they will continue working with Jeremy Kyle after the axing of his eponymous “show”, I wonder if he’ll be slowly introduced back onto television via the relatively low-key racing programme?

I seldom watch televised racing as I am usually out and about – sometimes at the races myself – but the last two times I have tuned in to ITV Racing I watched the entire broadcast with the mute button deployed. I really enjoyed the silent broadcast on both occasions and see this as the way forward.

:good: sounds good Ian especially when Matt Chapman is presenting at the Social Stable.
Also if you start recording ITV Racing for the first thirty minutes and then start watching from the start you can fast forward all the adverts…only thing is you need your bets in place early. B-)

    @Gladiateur

Regarding Jerrmy Kyle being on anything to do with horseracing whether it be ITV or any television network, just three words…
    NO NAY NEVER :negative:

I just have it on as silent moving wallpaper in the background, tbh, and only actually watch as the horses are going into the stalks or lining up.

I watch horse racing for the….err….horseracing (and nothing else) a concept broadcasters have never quite been able to grasp in recent years.

Completely understand, I guess that’s why we spend most time actually going to the races than watching on TV, but not everyone able to do that and for the true racing fans they must be left wondering when a horse will actually appear on screen.

Slightly off-topic but I notice that ITV aren’t repeating their coverage of the Brigadier Gerard evening meeting at Sandown. I guess evening racing isn’t an overwhelming success for the channel compared to the interminable You’ve Been Framed

Brigadier Gerard evening at Sandown…another high profile meeting on RTV ruined by the arrival of Irish racing.

Sometimes the mute button on its own just isn’t enough….

The insistence on making Chamberlin etc dress up in that stupid fancy dress on Derby Day (and Royal Ascot). I mean, they just look like posh twats don’t they?

    The hats – just bullshit.

What’s the logic? Are people watching meant to be impressed? I wasn’t. They looked pathetic.

Lots of argurments going on at the moment including Ed Chamberlain having a go at people who criticise itv racing’s coverage on social media and others getting their own views and digs in now.

I think Bruce Millington is spot-on with his observations.

ITV is not a dedicated “sports channel” and has to attract a wider audience to attract more advertisers.

I really do think people are nitpicking.

It would be really sad if racing disappeared from terrestrial TV and was on a subscription only basis.

As racing has effectively stuck two fingers up to both long term partners BBC & CH4,It’s ITV or nothing so that’s why they seems to be getting a easy ride from the media.
as jumping is more popular nowadays,ITVs remit was to drum up more interest in the flat and hence they seem to dumb it down more from May to October.
I’m happy to watch the jumping on ITV but come May I avoid it like the plague and hope the idiot rot hasn’t set in when the jumping returns.

What on earth are itv playing at putting the presenters in an in-vision box as the horses are loading who thought this was a good idea?

Why do we need to see the presenters we know what they look like, clearly the director has lost the plot they must have got him or her from BT Sport.

But would it be THAT sad in this day and age if racing disappeared from terrestrial TV?

I am a punter, I don’t work in the industry, I am not a cheerleader for racing, I am a consumer of it as a product.

If I find the coverage so irritating it has to be on mute why can’t I say so?

I don’t care about the ratings and if ITV cease covering racing there is always Racing TV, ATR (again both muted!) or I can watch the race via any betting platform if I have had the smallest of bets on it.

This is the point Bruce Millington misses – terrestrial isn’t the Holy Grail for racing fans it once was so we won’t endure any old tripe to maintain it.

For me it would be that sad – very sad indeed. Being a great racing fan but living on a pension, I do not subscribe to cable or sky and would be bereft if racing disappeared from terrestrial TV. I can live with the bad bits (or mute them) to get real excitement and pleasure from the really good bits. Are the dedicated racing channels so much better?

It would be a very sad day for racing if it ever lost its terrestrial coverage.
