Someone needs to tell Luke Harvey & Matt Chapman to cut out the cringe fest. I had recorded the whole meeting as I was away on holiday. To watch it all last night and this morning, I had to ffwd the cringe bits in the end this morning. Apart from that, great coverage I thought.
June 24, 2018 at 18:01 #1358454Brilliant to have the whole 5 days, every single race shown on ITV and enjoyed the coverage this year apart from the Social Stable with dogs, cats and guinea pigs wearing top hats and fascinators, more CBeebies than ITV Racing
Personslly would much rather have seen more horses going to post instead of down at the start with Luke Harvey asking pointless questions of the jockeys before the off…The fashion didn’t get over cooked this year but the presenters especially Rishi seem to be on a freebie fest drinking all the cocktails and coffee martinis they can scrounge.
All in all though it was thoroughly enjoyable and sorry I missed the Arthur Kitt feature it must have been when I recorded Tuesday whilst I was on holiday and it failed to record or on Saturday when I was at Newmarket and forgot to record
.really glad he won though
The AOB feature showed a more human side to the Master of Ballydoyle an excellent piece from AP the best he’s done.Has anyone got a record of how all their tips went throughout the week? From what I’ve seen it’s been pretty poor and best used as a guide to horses to avoid backing rather than lump on..Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...June 24, 2018 at 18:29 #1358457Did Luke happen to break his record of 100 “Cool, calm and collected” utterances within one programme?
June 27, 2018 at 11:33 #1358687Just watched a few from last week.
I think it is very good overall. There are lots of differences from the CH4 coverage but, without crabbing individuals, I think the main difference is that the new team have brought a lot more fun and excitement to the coverage generally. I think they have a good mix of personalities and they all have a sense of humour about them, you do feel they are actually enjoying themselves, not always the case with the CH4 team.
To single out two people – Kevin Blake would be amongst the most knowledgeable individuals on Irish racing, is a good broadcaster and is, IMO, a brilliant addition while Francesca Cumani appears much more relaxed and comfortable in the role now and, again, looks like she is having fun.
I know TRF can be a VERY tough audience but I can’t remember any racing broadcaster receiving the generally positive comments above so looks like a, general, big
from TRF!!(David)

.really glad he won thoughNot sure if there was a feature on AK but they did tell the story of him on the Saturday before he ran. I’d backed him without knowing the story and was nearly in tears when he won
June 29, 2018 at 21:13 #1358900Well that Newcastle coverage was poor. No horses in the paddock and they had ample time to show all the runners…..dodgy camera work, too many people chatting and interviews. Can’t they show a horse in a paddock unless it’s accompanied with a girl in a posh dress?
July 1, 2018 at 19:13 #1359211I taped the coverage as I was at Newmarket but just had to fast forward through a lot of talking and adverts to watch the horses..feel sorry for those who really love their racing but are unable to get to a course for one reason or another.
Gone downhill a bit since Royal Ascot.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...July 1, 2018 at 21:10 #1359225Because I am ill and no friends like racing I have to rely on the ITV coverage. I love the horses, I am not in the slightest bit interested in Matt Chapman and his cronies…..

Would be nice if they could have a red button option when they televise the racing to just see the horses in the paddock and going to post before each race..no commentary required just details of the runners on the screen.
If you wanted to go back for certain features they could also be listed and saved on the red button option. The presenters could waffle on all through the racing fanning their huge ever growing egos and giving useless tips while those who love the sport could hit the mute button, press the red button and enjoy an afternoon watching uninterupted horseracing.
Would also be a good idea to put Matt Chapman in Room 101 and throw away the key..
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...July 1, 2018 at 22:36 #1359227I really agree about Chapman, I want to punch him hard every time I see his silly face!!!
The red button idea is a really good one!!!July 2, 2018 at 09:24 #1359247There’s no need for Chapman at all.
This extends to beyond the ITV racing coverage
July 13, 2018 at 00:28 #1360037No John Smith’s Cup on ITV on Saturday?!?
July 13, 2018 at 09:28 #1360133It is Patriot. Coverage is ITV until 2.30 then moves to ITV3 as I presume the 3rd/4th play-off is on ITV.
Nice bit of variation with Josephine Gordon on yesterday.
July 13, 2018 at 11:36 #1360143Whoops. I only looked at the main channel and ITV4. Not used to it being on ITV3. Cheers Kev.
July 31, 2018 at 14:13 #1361639How many times has Mick Fitz raced around Goodwood.
Yet we get him answering how not to get blocked in.

August 2, 2018 at 08:09 #1361870Luke Harvey’s small talk with jockeys at the start is pure embarrassing. Nico De Boinville was less than pleased (quite rightly) with him twice at Whitbread meeting calling him an “absolute idiot” after causing Daryll Jacob’s mount to interfere with his.
Both Harvey & Chamberlin tried to laugh it off but De Boinville was serious.
At the same meeting, Harvey was interviewing John Gosden after a race when Gosden pointed out there was loose horse careering towards them and to watch out. Harvey completely ignored him and just continued questioning him about the race.
Weaver did something similar when a horse was distressed at the end of a race, carried on questioning connections about the horse when they were trying to concentrate on his welfare.
I find all this intrusion from the likes of Harvey & Chapman unacceptable but they’re allowed to get away with it by the authorities, so it will continue.
August 23, 2018 at 18:55 #1363962So far the coverage at York has been dire and Matt Chapman’s with his OTT deep voice and rolling R’s are really grating on my nerves.
Thank goodness I’m off to Newmarket tomorrow and Saturday and can record the coverage to fast forward to the horsey bits, which are few and far between. It seems every time they stop talking and switch to the horses going to post the adverts come on, and what was all that balcony Romeo and Juliet banter about at the start of the show? The Fashion items are now getting more and more. We know that every big meeting seems to put on a Ladies Day now but why does ITV treat every one as if it were Royal Ascot.
and did I really hear one of the presenters say that the racehorse Laurens was the best looking woman he had ever seen, bet he gets it in the neck when he gets home…
