To be fair he had a **** load running but I imagine it was a wake up call for Elliott

January 14, 2026 at 16:28 #1750470€120k in the kitty today, don’t think the empire is crumbling just yet
January 14, 2026 at 16:35 #1750471I doubt he lost much sleep … Prob falls asleep counting Cheltenham winners …

March 13, 2026 at 20:05 #1759729Only 8 winners for Mullins this week. 2 fewer than last year. He’s slipping!
It might have been 9 winners if he hadn’t had a strop about Fact To File and the ground.
He managed to have the winners of the Champion Hurdle, Champion Chase and the Gold Cup.
Not sure how far it leaves him behind Skelton.
March 13, 2026 at 20:10 #1759731I think Skelton is at roughly 3.8 million and Willie at around 1.9 million.
He would need another great Aintree meeting including the winner in the GN.
Otherwise Skelton should hold on, without winning a single Championship race.March 13, 2026 at 20:14 #1759734Skelton could do with another Covid pandemic or foot & mouth to end the season prematurely between now and Aintree!
March 14, 2026 at 00:35 #1759787Strange skelton will be top trainer without winning any big races. Kind of sums up where we are. The irish trained horses mop up most of the big races whereas the brits win the big handicaps. Cest la vie.

Before Cheltenham, it was 12-2 to Britain in UK Grade One jumps races this season, with the two Irish winners both being Mullins horses (Il Etait Temps in the Tingle Creek and Kitzbuhel in the Feltham).
Mullins becomes champion trainer primarily by targeting Cheltenham, Aintree and, if needed, Sandown.
March 14, 2026 at 07:35 #1759804The British do quite well in the novice Grade 1s at Cheltenham but can’t seem to be able to follow through with them.
The more I know the less I understand.
March 14, 2026 at 07:46 #1759807Not so long ago, some people were complaining about Irish horses being treated too leniently in handicaps. Has the wheel now turned and the British handicapper is treating Irish horses too harshly?

Dan Skelton pulled off two handicap coups at the festival. How has he managed to get them so well handicapped? He was even interviewed by the stewards after the running of Supremely West earlier in the season but I believe the handicapper lowered the horse’s rating afterwards!
March 14, 2026 at 09:50 #1759841The fella coming out of the festival with biggest headache is Elliott , 2 winners in 2 years ( 56 races ) is a pathetic result with the horses/facilities he has , Gigginstown can’t be happy , he had a rethink in the summer after last year , it’s time for another one , maybe a staff regig but something has to change

March 14, 2026 at 09:57 #1759844And Elliot’s only winner was the same horse both years. She must be very talented.
March 14, 2026 at 10:00 #1759850She’s as hard as nails that’s for sure

Possibly, and the GB horses win the Cheltenham handicaps because of it- but the flip side is that they get balloted out of the Grand National.

Noticeable that de Bromhead’s two winners were for Robcour. One of Elliott’s big spending owners.
After a bit of a lull for Rich Ricci, Mullins delivered the Gold Cup into his hands, as the second half of a fabulous double with the champion hurdle. Ricci might continue to send a few horses to Venetia Williams and Nicky Henderson, but this big double has probably tied him even more tightly to Closutton for the bulk of his horse shopping money.March 14, 2026 at 10:11 #1759856That will hurt Elliott , I’m sure Henry in his polite way will advise Robcour to send more his way , Jonjo getting 2 winners after having the yard closed in the winter is prob one of the biggest achievements , I’ll watching his runners closely for the end of the season , some money to be made

March 14, 2026 at 10:16 #1759857To my mind, Elliott has never really recovered from the sitting on a dead horse photograph.
To be fair, he has had a good season in Ireland – but Mullins isn’t far behind him now and will only need a half decent Punchestown to win the Championship again.
I am sure Elliott would trade in plenty of his Irish prize money for another two or three winners at Cheltenham.
March 14, 2026 at 10:33 #1759864We can all say it isn’t about Cheltenham but it is , when a owner spends 100k+ he/she isn’t asking ” Is it a Punchestown horse are they ” Elliott is maker of his own downfall , I’ll be interested to see what Gigginstown do over the summer
