I seem to remember a few years ago a journalist doing an article on forums make exactly the same point steeplechasing did in his opening post. The journalist had looked in here on a Saturday and stated there was hardly a post prior to midday.
I wouldn’t worry about it myself, if you are concerned just post more.
November 8, 2015 at 11:44 #1220698I would sincerely hope not.
So many knowledgeable posters who adopt (in the main) a civil and courteous respect for others views.
For one who rarely bets, this is the ideal site for me, as although some posts relate specifically to betting, there is so much diversity of comment that there is something for everyone.
You only have to look at certain other sites for every ride to be greeted by cat calls, abuse, or allegations of cheating. That’s when the posters are not abusing each other !
Perhaps we should all value what we have got here and all put a little more effort in.November 8, 2015 at 12:03 #1220702David,
Sorry to hear about the ‘life issues’ – I hope things get better soon. Lord knows, it’s a thankless job at any time running a forum, and I don’t envy you. It hasn’t just been the lack of posts on the ‘Flagship’ forum, Horse Racing: there were a couple of posts during the week which got tagged ‘reported for inappropriate comment’, without any obvious reason.
Also, the spam recently…easily enough ignored by members, but the fact that nothing appears to be done about it gives the impression that this has become something of a ghost ship.
Still, easy said, by me, who needn’t do any work!
Good luck
JoeNovember 8, 2015 at 12:15 #1220716I think the Facebook and Twitter point is a good one
One of the smaller forums I used a lot just closed down and all the members went on Facebook… and another huge forum that I use a lot has lost many members to Facebook
I don’t like FB and Twitter myself so it’s a development I regret but it seems inevitable that it will have an effect on ‘old-fashioned’ forums
November 8, 2015 at 12:45 #1220721I would browse this forum daily think its the best of its kind about. Just signed up so il try and make an effort to post aswell cos i woukd hate for some of the regular users to leave the forum due to inactivity. Keep up the good work!
November 8, 2015 at 12:58 #122072211 on a Saturday of a busy, interesting racing day, and this is the first post in Horse Racing. TRF seems to have been steadily dying in the past weeks and months…a real shame.
Well my excuse was that I was out at the racing! Reports from Friday at Musselburgh and Saturday at a soggy Kelso to follow on North’s Notes.
Reports will have to wait a short while as I am watching my former local football club Didcot Town’s first appearance in the FA Cup First Round!

November 8, 2015 at 13:31 #1220731Currently wishing for the old days when Ian Concannon was banging ’em in at 50 a season instead of on the sidelines as manager!
November 8, 2015 at 13:31 #1220732@steeplechasing “Also, the spam recently…easily enough ignored by members, but the fact that nothing appears to be done about it gives the impression that this has become something of a ghost ship.”
Hang on there Joe!
I get rid of the “spam” as quickly as I can – I do have other priorities as well.
The “spam” is deleted within 24hrs.
I did leave a few “spam” postings as quite a few members had responded with amusing comments: sometimes, it is no-win-situation as people complain if I erase everything.
Hey ho.
November 8, 2015 at 14:40 #1220741Matron, I apologize. I hadn’t realized you’d deliberately left some live – sorry.
As I said, easy for us riders in the stand to criticize the folks doing the actual work! :)
November 8, 2015 at 16:44 #1220761I can see where you’re coming from Joe, I’m maybe a
bit guilty myself of reading very regularly, and posting
less so. For quite a long time I tended to hang about
in the Big Race Discussions forum mostly, that’s where most
of my posts would be. I’ll try and be more aware of what’s
happening in all the areas here.I did have about a year or so out with some pretty bad health
issues, but was so glad to see the forum, and most of you guys
were still here when I got back in the saddle. I would be gutted
if this site fell by the wayside, I thoroughly enjoy being involved
in a small way, and there are some on here that I like to think of
as friends.I think the work getting put in by those running this site should be
applaudedNovember 8, 2015 at 17:33 #1220764No worries, Cormack, I always enjoy this forum, some contributors here whose opinion I take v seriously. Perhaps it’s just that the Flat has become so tedious, + things will warm up when the real racing starts in earnest
November 8, 2015 at 18:03 #1220766No problems Joe.
November 8, 2015 at 18:26 #1220770Is this just a blatant tug-at-the-heartstrings attempt to get me to start posting my wistful, ill-informed nonsense again?
Oh go on then…

November 8, 2015 at 19:32 #1220780I’d like to suggest that all the sub forums are scrapped and everything is on one forum with key threads as stickies, say the next big race due or what have you. Just my opinion, i feel everything is too fragmented and it’s actually diluting interest.
Just a suggestion.
November 8, 2015 at 20:10 #1220783I really hope this site isn’t in the death throes, although i don’t post much myself i read the various threads everyday, and some of the posters on here are extreamley knowledgeable. The problem maybe that for semi serious punters (like me) we have the muppetsville betfair forum full of betting shop talk at one and of the spectrum and TRF at the other end where opinions can easily get blown out of the water by more languid people.
November 8, 2015 at 20:31 #1220786I must admit…I’ve been in and out for a few years now.
I’m one who’s definitely been a victim of the social media side of it! Don’t bother with Twitter, but facebook in general and the many groups on there, I can’t help it…I’m in one fantastic group in which I’ve met some great friends and now have two annual race meetings at Wolverhampton and one over in Ireland….in all honesty though, that group apart the rest are full of…how do I put it….not the most knowledgable…quite scary really, the amount who will gamble their money away with so little knowledge…it’s hard enough when you do know a little!
There’s some great posters and opinions on here though…the best around by far…and will be around a bit more now the proper racing is back! Although the way my luck is at the moment I’ll be saying hurry up and get the flat back soon…
