I think the horse has holes – is he bleeding maybe? In his last two runs he has been running and travelling well before stopping like he is shot – an indicator of an underlying physical problem to me.
November 20, 2006 at 23:07 #81054
He’s never been the same horse since fracturing a leg in August 2004 IMO.
Maybe there is a reason for him not finishing his races at the moment but sadly I don’t think that we’ll ever see him reach the heights of his Stayers Hurdle victory again.
November 21, 2006 at 10:55 #81055I still think he has a long distance chase in him.
November 23, 2006 at 08:45 #81056His handicap mark has been dropped to 138 after his run at Haydock, so he’s certainly down to an attractive mark for the Welsh National based on last season’s novice form.

November 23, 2006 at 10:03 #81057Is Kingscliff down to 151? (his RP form page suggests so). He was on 169 going into the Charlie Hall – 18lbs in two runs is some drop.
December 6, 2006 at 09:20 #520dropped to a class 2 0-140 hcp. hopefully he can get back to winning ways
what do you think?

December 6, 2006 at 09:24 #32909i think its a shame he hasnt turned out as good over fences as hurdles, i thought he was destined for atleast 1 gold cup! i think i spin over hurdles wouldnt do him any harm and would see if he still has the enthusiasm for hurdle races
December 6, 2006 at 10:18 #32910In fairness to Iris’s Gift, he’s jumped pretty well recently, but is simply tackling better class than he can now manage. The few people who continue to believe that he is capable of challenging for the Stayers’ Hurdle are more bonkers than Alan Ridley.
I hope that a drop in class will enable IG to regain winning ways and boost his confidence ~ there may be a decent handicap in him yet.
December 6, 2006 at 10:34 #32911watching his last few races he has jumped alot better, but he is completly one paced and doesnt finish his races. i hope he can win this saturday and increase his confidence, then maybe he can step up into higher quality races. personaly i think a hurdles run may sharpen him up abit
December 6, 2006 at 10:44 #32912It should be an interesting contest.
Iris’s Gift has shown much respect for his fences jumping round the park tracks on his latest two starts however although winning at Market Rasen as a novice (as the odds suggested he was entitled too) I just question whether he maybe suited by a more demanding track.
I wouldn’t imagine Nayodabayo will leave him alone for an uncontested lead which bodes to an interesting test throughout the early stages.
On his current form – you’d have to say the opposition won’t be scared to take him on over obstacles BUT if he came down to a reasonable mark Iris’s Gift looks the ideal type for the Grand National.
December 6, 2006 at 11:43 #32913His jumping seems to have improved this season but I’ve been disappointed by the way he’s faded at the end of his races.
Has there been a reason for this?

December 6, 2006 at 12:59 #32914we honestly don’t know, he’s had a lot of problems over the years that have taken something away. he seems to be getting very tired, but hardly blowing when he gets back to the enclosure. almost as if he gives up when a horse goes past him. hopefully in a lower grade race this might not happen, or we could just be clutching at straws!
December 6, 2006 at 13:03 #32915wish you luck Rob, and hope he returns to winning ways.
would be enticing to see him run in the welsh national though from his 138 mark. what are his chances of running? is he being aimed at it?
December 6, 2006 at 13:16 #32916i think it’s a possibility, but u know what jonjo is like! the grand national is also a possibility. but i don’t think the old man’s ticker would put up with that!
December 6, 2006 at 13:25 #32917it seems like he hasa lost all his enthusiasm for racing. take him out hunting and get his blood pumping again
December 6, 2006 at 14:26 #32918almost as if he gives up when a horse goes past him. hopefully in a lower grade race this might not happen
I hope so. It would be nice to see him win a race.
