News from RP on the ground:
DRYING conditions at the Curragh led to the track drying out to good (from good to yielding) on the round course and good to yielding (from yielding) by Thursday morning.
Speaking later in the day racecourse manager Paul Hensey said: "We’ve had a dry bright day but there is some rain forecast for tonight and early tomorrow[Friday]. We’re talking about a maximum of seven to eight millimetres and if that is what we get then the ground will probably go back to where it was on Wednesday.
"There is the risk of showers over the weekend but at this stage we are not expecting any really significant rain on Saturday or Sunday."

Flying Cross
I wouldn’t want the favourite with her record at the Curragh. Soft ground over that distance at the Curragh wouldn’t be ideal either. If it gets softer I’d wanna be on Tactic. But the money is down already.

Sans Frontieres beat Laaheb pretty easily last time and is finally beginning to build on the promise of his Dante third.
He should be favourite; 5/2 will do nicely.
September 11, 2010 at 10:46 #317024Flying Cross for me to i asked Ladbrokes for a price of him in the gold cup next year. i got 4/1 that is a shocker of a price

Lol! – That is a classic!

You do love an anti poster for sure!
September 11, 2010 at 11:26 #317030Yeah mate i do but 4/1 is awful price who you think will win today in this race
September 11, 2010 at 11:31 #317031I don’t know who’ll win this Darren – haven’t looked at it tbh! I have tunnel vision right now!

Good luck with yours!
September 11, 2010 at 13:11 #317042Just re-ran Profound Beauty beating Alandi last year at The Curragh over toay’s trip on yielding ground.
She’ll do for me evcen though I’d be happier if the ground was drierSeptember 11, 2010 at 14:51 #317053

The Cup currently carries a $500,000 bonus to the owner of the winning horse from the group one Irish St. Leger, run in September, if it then wins the Melbourne Cup in November.
Goes a long way to explaining MC entries in the ISL.
Rite has enough weight though so the penalty risk is not worth him running.
Sans and Beauty can expect up to 1.5kg penalty should they win taking their MC weight to 56.5 and 55.5 respectively.
Still the 500k bonus is a big carrot.
I think Sans Frontieres can pick up that bonus.
Happy with the place money on Flying Cross in todays race.
September 11, 2010 at 14:57 #317058Sans Frontieres would make a fantastic Champion Hurdle contender. Getting better and better.
September 11, 2010 at 15:06 #317060Had a nice wedge on the fav but Charlie Swan’s horse was too close there at the finish to be getting carried away with that form.
The mare was too keen early on.

I hope your right and i must admit my confidence has grown enormously after such a dominant win.

I have a double with Herculian Prince in the Caulfield Cup that is mouth watering after both horses winning today.
They must repeat the wins in each race for me to collect but this is a nice progression.
September 12, 2010 at 01:15 #317120The issue I sometimes have with using British form to assess Australian races is that they worry about which horses they finished close to, etc.
I don’t care if he only beat plodders (well, I know Profound Beauty isn’t).
It was the turn of foot he produced to win which excited me.
Considering the slow pace, it was quite some effort.
Suggests to me that the Melbourne Cup would be a perfect race for him.
It was interesting though to hear Australian presenter and former racecaller David Raphael’s thoughts on Rite of Passage.
He said that if Dermot was going to run him in the St Leger he wouldn’t have had the gallop on Tuesday/Wednesday which caused his non-acceptance.
I’m convinced you’ll still see him in Melbourne.
