Considering the length of time Ruby was off after dislocating his shoulder, plus his recent six-day post-Cheltenham ban, I’m surprised Davy Russell wasn’t able to open up more of a lead. It will add another interesting dimension to Punchestown if there’s not much in it there, especially after Paul Nicholls announced his intention today to send over a decent team.

Quite a naive statement considering that a freelance like Russell’s biggest source of winners has been Colm Murphy who has provided 11, whereas Ruby has the firepower of his number 1 stable Willie Mullins behind him, who has provided 43 winners for him, not to mention the 22 from Tony Martin – it kind of helps when you are only on the triers.
