I’m at opposite ends of the market here. I think that sometimes it pays not to overlook the obvious and I think that Nick Rockett should win this. I’m best to wait though at this stage, and as unlikely as it will be, I’d really like to beat the 4/1 that he is right now.
From favourite to rag, and my second bet will be Royal Thief. He will be a monster price, and he is 100/1 just now, but I will bet him once I know that he is running, and I should get better each way terms
March 28, 2024 at 10:54 #1688495They be weight rise 6lb now top weight put so bare this in mind.
I’m now looking at Yeah Man as alternative
Vf xMarch 28, 2024 at 14:17 #1688516I’d say there’s a good chance this whole meeting will be off.
Wexford off yesterday and Clonmel off today. The grounds currently heavy with another 10mm likely before Sunday.
March 29, 2024 at 15:57 #1688570I liked Run Wild Fred a couple of seasons back. If he runs here, then he’ll be my sole bet. I think that I will be able to name my price with him on recent form

March 30, 2024 at 20:42 #1688734Been with Where It All Began before and did me a favour so may stick there. Will have another look Monday as the big three stables have a poor record in this.
The more I know the less I understand.
March 31, 2024 at 18:17 #1688794Nicks Rockets Dec run looks rock solid form and he could well outclass these , he’s the win play , e.w Diol Ker is back down to winning mark and will def handle conditions and real test , this could well have be his long term target
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
March 31, 2024 at 21:35 #1688813Not my race, but I’ll have a small go on Favori De Champdou for a little interest.
March 31, 2024 at 21:45 #1688816I think he is value at 25/1 on the face of it Peter H. He is definitely going the right way around this time.
March 31, 2024 at 22:31 #1688817Daily Present 25s is my early punt.
However, for tomorrow itself i already have about 8 in mind

By mid-afters it’ll be make yer mind up time.
April 1, 2024 at 09:28 #1688828I’ve gone for Daily Present and Favori De Champdou EW with the extra places. Looked a very winnable renewal if the fav isn’t up to it, 9 runners shy of a full field and a top weight only rated 148. So its just marginally better than a Kim Muir but with professional pilots.
On that Kim Muir theme, the winner of the Kim Muir would have hosed up here off what wouldn’t have even been 145, I can’t recall his Irish mark but it was lower. Is that a pointer that JP knows the old man of the party Any Second Now has a great shot here? I’d love to see it happen but two will be enough for me.
I may have to revisit my attitude towards Gigginstown going mob handed because if they had been restricted we’d be looking at 16 runner handicap potentially.
April 1, 2024 at 10:24 #1688831Not exactly the most inspiring renewal of this race and a shame that GB trainers aren’t prepared to have a dig at this one as handicap marks certainly aren’t against them these days.
My figures reflect the strong form from Cheltenham:
161 Where It All Began
161 Daily Present
156 We’llhavewon
149 Yeah Man
148 Hartur D’Arc
148 Frontal AssaultNothing to put me off the top 2 so they are my main selections. Frontal Assault is a regular in my top handful for Irish staying chases and may not be far away so I’ll bung him in for the tricast.
April 1, 2024 at 11:11 #1688835I watched the Kim Muir back, it looked hard work and not a lot of recovery time for Where It All Began and Daily Present. Either may have the ability/ruggedness to recover in a relatively short space of time to win this but I will stick with ones who have waited for it.
April 1, 2024 at 11:30 #1688836I’ve done two each way.
Yeah Man and Senior Chief.Like a few of these, Senior Chief is a novice who has looked like a stayer in the making… Yet went down to 2 3/4 miles last time. From the De Bromhead yard and could be significantly better than he’s shown so far. That said…
Cromwell is imo right up there with Mullins, De Bromhead and Elliott. His Yeah Man beat My Silver Lining (placed in Midlands GN since) last time in the Haydock Grand National Trial. Proven stayer yet – idled on run-in – has more improvement in him. Many novice unexposed types yet to run over an extreme distance may look as though they’ll be suited by it. But am sure not all of them will be in these conditions. Extremely testing going makes it the extreme of the extreme stamina tests. imo It will be difficult to keep Yeah Man out of the places at the very least.
Value Is EverythingApril 1, 2024 at 11:44 #1688838No bet, but I would like to see Hartur D’Arc run well.
Visually he was a very striking point winner, showing a tidy change of pace. I thought he would go on and be Graded horse, but he seemed to lose his way after a promising start in bumpers. At that stage I thought he wanted better ground. The change of trainer seems to have sparked a revival, but he is notably weak in the market. Perhaps the ground and distance is expected to blunt his speed?
April 1, 2024 at 12:06 #1688840Agreed Mike.
Hard race to be massively enthusiastic over.
Nick R was my idea of a NHC winner. He’s fresh and clearly could be a 160 horse. The ground should should be ok to be fair, but over the trip it’s a slight question mark. The thing is he probably has such a class edge he’ll probably be able to travel round on the ground in his comfort zone.
The couple i had given chances too are weak in the market.
Hartur D’arc going from Gibney-Cromwell has already picked up a big pot for the Handicap Chase king of the moment. I wouldn’t be shocked to see him go well again. Off 137 i think he’s worth chancing.
Churchstownwarrior was another i looked at for this in the initial entries for all he’s had a nothing season, he’s a horse i’ve always liked and has a shrewd trainer. Drifting like a barge + the trainer citing ground concerns, he’s acted on it fine before but overall it’s a concern.
Favori De Champdou is also a big price, nice claimer and loves a bog. Best form right handed is a bonus.
Good Time Jonny’s trainer has mentioned heavy as a concern but if he holds his jumping together he’s also very well in. The trip should be no concern either.
So i’ve 4 to go to war with + it’ll be small stakes.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!April 1, 2024 at 12:32 #1688842Any Second Now and Frontal Assault for me. Any Second Now is a bit of a sympathy bet, he deserves a big win like this. He is 12 now so it is hard to imagine him being on best, but he ran at 27 pound higher mark in last year Grand National.
Frontal Assault also is a a vetaran in the staying chases. Decent 4th place in the Porterstown chase at this track in the beginning of the season. He is now a lower mark and with Carl Miller claiming seven pounds that means he is even 11 pounds lower. Also 11 pounds lower then finishing second in this race two years ago.
Any Second Now 14/1
Frontal Assault 22/1 - AuthorPosts
