Hi Grimes; nice to hear from you! They seem to have kept him hurdling since last year [although any chase starts don’t seem very inspiring]. I’ve checked again and TRP still have his RPR very high [177 now]. Can still only assume that it’s a mistake but I nearly didn’t back the Tizzard horse at Cheltenham for the same reason and look how he romped home [thankfully I did back him!]. Trainer does seem to get horses placed in the race sometimes. I’d kick myself if he won/placed and I didn’t back him [very small ew]. Any ideas on ‘The National’? Doing my head in this year, it is!
March 31, 2013 at 19:11 #434607Home Farm the horse to take out of the race. Unfortunately, on all known evidence the ground will be much too soft for him.
March 31, 2013 at 22:06 #434635Jadanli and Cross Appeal both ew at 33.
April 1, 2013 at 09:08 #434657The ground now drying out so in addition to Panther Claw having a small e/w on Muirhead. He was a classy hurdler who has yet to reach those levels over fences. Could today be his day with in form Davy Condon on board?
April 1, 2013 at 10:23 #434665Interesting to note that Simon Shirley-Beavan travels from the Borders to run Rapidolite De Ladalka in the race. This one looks to be crying out for this sort of trip having won three times at Catterick over 3m 1f 110yds when outstaying the opposition. His trainer doesn’t waste too many entries, and it wouldn’t be total surprise to see this one finishing in a place.

April 1, 2013 at 11:03 #434669True, especially in a race with very few guaranteed stayers. I see that TRP have now reduced Whodoyouthink’s RPR to 170
but have also seen that he has an entry in The Betfair Bowl at 100/1! Is his trainer the Clive Brittain of the jumping world?? I’m quite happy with my bet on Jadanli, even though he didn’t do much at Cheltenham.
April 1, 2013 at 13:40 #434688Funny you should say that, moehat. I was just going to apologise for confusing the form of Wdyt with that of Jadanli, which I have also done. In fact, it turns out now that Wdyt is a non-runner.
In fact, he had won a race with a sf of 135, winning very easily by 22 lengths, but Jadanli’s best figure was more like 152.I see McKiernan’s got what looks like a cousin of Wdyt called, Quietly Fancied at the foot of the handicap, but I’ve committed to Muirhead, Home Farm and Carlington Lough, as well, so that’s enough in a h’cap like this. I hope and suspect I’ll get my stake back from VC on Wdyt, as the bokies usually go NRNB on bets a few days before, don’t they? We’ll see. Oh, I also have a little on Goonyella at 16s.
But I’m puzzled the racing manager of the owners of Junior fancy him, when he’s giving so much weight away to unexposed types carrying light weights for wily Irish trainers. Still I’ll put a couple of pounds on him, if I get back zummit from the NR.
Re the National, moehat, I’ve got 2 (2 pounds, not hundreds, thousands, etc…) on Imperial Commander at 40s and 2 at 33s, and wish I’d put more on now. Hope he stands up; a bit more on Chicago Grey at 25s and 20s, and on His Own at 18s. D
Don’t laugh, but also something on Sea Bass and Cappa Bleu. I would have bet on some others, too, had I not suddenly realised how many I’d bet on already!
I keep wondering if Cappa will do it this time. You know the way you can’t get words or snatches of songs out of your head (ear-worms, I believe they’re called). He does have a touch of class about him, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he had improved from last year.
What about you? What do you fancy for the National? I’ll have a look in the meantime – see if you’ve posted your fancies.
April 1, 2013 at 16:16 #434703Home Farm the horse to take out of the race. Unfortunately, on all known evidence the ground will be much too soft for him.
Well the ground dried up for him but he couldn’t quite stave off a another bookmaker’s benefit – save for part of Cheltenham there have been far too many over the past couple of months. Not sure if Casey could have got him a bit closer or he was just a victim of inexperience as he passed the post with seemingly plenty in the tank. It wouldn’t have taken much further to see him run past the front two.

I had small stakes on Panther Claw and Sweeney Tunes but wouldn’t have picked the first two with a blunderbus at very short range. Never been my race really, other than a decent lift on Rhyme and Reason, and that feels like centuries ago.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
April 1, 2013 at 19:33 #434729i knew an outsider would win, unfortunately i didn;t choose the right outsider

April 2, 2013 at 11:20 #434775Same here vf; of course, Whodoyouthink would have won
. Annoyed with myself because I always used to go for a horse with a low weight with a claimer on board. Saves a lot of studying…
April 2, 2013 at 14:35 #434788Bit disappointed with the ride on Panther Claw. Was infront far too soon. I’ll take a place though.
April 2, 2013 at 14:40 #434789Did Panther Claw make a mistake towards the latter part of the race, or was he going backwards when it happened anyway? Was listening on the radio and a lot seemed to happen in a short space of time.

Made a mistake which knocked the wind out of him. Then recovered and kept on up the straight and finished 5th after a horse fell at the last.
