Before that demolition job by Galopin two weeks back, I bet Coko Beach for The Gold Cup. As ridiculous as that sounds, I genuinely believe he’s as good this season, as they’re likely to ever have him, and I was surprised he didn’t at least get an entry.
No hesitation in betting him here though just now, and hopeful that they give it a go.
I’ve rambled on about Jungle Boogie enough lately, but he’ll definitely be bet as well, but Coko is the one I’m betting right now.
Coko Beach 66’s
Jungle BoogieJanuary 21, 2024 at 00:48 #1678030No option but to cash him out until I see if heads for Thyestes……
Not declared, so back with him
February 3, 2024 at 08:16 #1679432Some may know I’ve backed Fastorslow at 20/1 for the Cheltenham Gold Cup and the horse already owes me nothing after winning after I got at double-digit odds about him on the machine last time out.
I was very happy with my bet until Galopin Des Champs won half the track here at Christmas.
On balance, despite my horse being two-nil up, I think he will struggle to complete the hat-trick today.
But I wouldn’t be betting the odds-on the jolly either.
A massively-talented horse, but not the most natural or reliable of jumpers in my book.
And bad ground exaggerates superiority and it must be better ground today otherwise Fastorslow would have again have been withdrawn by now.
Intriguing contest.

Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
February 3, 2024 at 15:33 #1679599Surprised that Willie is running the favourite here to be honest.
The ground at Christmas was absolutely appalling and he could quite easily have gone straight to the festival. Also, in recent times, going straight to the Gold Cup from the Holiday period has proven to hold the winning formula with Knight, Nicholls, Henderson and even Willie himself (Alboum Photo) using this method.
February 3, 2024 at 15:46 #1679603I think those are simply two really good chasers – cracking race, winner won on merit, but the runner up wasn’t given a hard time once held.

February 3, 2024 at 15:47 #1679605That was a lot of work for GDC and the last-fence mishap could cost a lot in the GC.
I just wonder if the Savill’s Chase and this one won’t be one too many for him with Cheltenham only five weeks away.February 3, 2024 at 15:47 #1679606I’m really looking forward to the Gold Cup
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
February 3, 2024 at 15:50 #1679611Cracking race and a brilliant performance.
Nothing touches him in the Gold Cups 3m2f if in this form.February 3, 2024 at 15:50 #1679612Fastorslow a better more efficient jumper but GDC just has the bigger engine. That race took a bit of winning though and FOS wasn’t stopping at the line. I have sniffed at him a bit previously but I have to admit that was very good.
Ruby Walsh was lauding GDC’s amazing powers of recovery after a race, it’s just as well for his Cheltenham hopes because I think Townend had to use up a bit more horse to win than he had hoped.February 3, 2024 at 15:53 #1679613GDC clearly deserves to be a short priced favourite for the Gold Cup but I don’t think Fastorslow is a forlorn hope.
February 3, 2024 at 15:54 #1679614“Smooth performance – was thinking he may not have gone faster enough with how well Conflated was still going jumping the 2nd last”
I think that was deliberate, the brief would have been, win as gently as you can, don’t use an ounce more than you have to.
February 3, 2024 at 16:08 #1679624He won, he wasn’t as dominating like some people on social media would have you believe. I also don’t think he’s as good as he’s made out to be…..he’s the best of an average lot.
In simplistic terms, the horse with the biggest engine wins the race – nothing impressive about that. I’d rather horses win because they’re the best jumper….
February 3, 2024 at 16:10 #1679627Think you need to start watching showjumping Andy if that’s what you want
February 3, 2024 at 16:14 #1679630Fastorslow ran well over 3m1f at the festival last season but the Gold Cup is on another level. I’m not sure he’ll get up the hill after watching that today.
February 3, 2024 at 16:28 #1679635Didnt seem overly impressive, but difficult to gauge how much Townend was holding back imho.
I’m not convinced that he’s an ‘odds on fav’ for the Cheltenham Gold Cup (despite the actual betting saying so).
I havent placed any early bets yet for the Festival, but i quite fancy Hewick each way in the GC.
