This could be the case, GM. But so far, Ballydoyle has been too quiet in all Classics run so far. Even on home soil, though this has been an unusual turf season so far.
May 26, 2024 at 18:38 #1695705I’m expecting the big winners will start flowing from next week before an onslaught on Royal Ascot.
I’ve been extremely critical of O’Brien this past 2 seasons for not having mainly his 3yr olds ready early on but to be fair, this season, a lot of trainers have been guilty of this.
Look at the improvement of Falling Angel today from her first run.
Inspiral was a disgrace last week yet I’m still expecting her to put things right at Ascot.
Vandeek is another I’m sticking with after a massively under par run yesterday.May 26, 2024 at 21:15 #1695722The problem is you can never be sure which ones will come forward from first runs. Opera singer and river tiber definitely. Suspect the likes of Highbury could be contesting group ones come the end of the season. Been as just a strange start to the season in Ireland as here. Could well be deliberate by trainers but the amount of horses miles off it after first runs is unprecedented.
May 26, 2024 at 22:22 #1695726Didn’t follow this race but just wonder with so many horses running on at the end how reliable it will be as regards form.
May 26, 2024 at 22:23 #1695727Fallen Angel ran a lot better at Newmarket than her finishing position suggested. Doing well considering those held up / dropped out who’d raced stand side dominated the finish. They went too quick and so FA (who was prominent and raced on the far side) was at a positional disadvantage regarding both pace and being far side. imo Didn’t need to come on that much from reappearance.
Inspiral ran well below form in a poor Queen Anne when beaten by a 33/1 shot first time out last season after missing the Lockinge… And as a three year old missed the Guineas because she was not ready. So hasn’t been at her best in May previously. This year’s (May) Lockinge was probably used as a prep, to bring her to peak fitness for Royal Ascot.
Vandeek’s form this weekend was probably the worst ground he’s raced on. I don’t believe the “Very Soft” French description. The horse has an action that may well be at its best on a sounder surface. Did take a keen hold in the early stages at Haydock too and up against a top class race fit opponent. Expect better at Ascot.
Opera Singer was well beaten on debut at two and has had an injury since her excellent Group 1 victory in France. I expect plenty of improvement from today’s run at Ascot.
River Tiber was fit enough to win first time out at two, which suggests he doesn’t take as much getting fit. May well have been fitter than most AOB three year olds this term. His odds also did not lengthen like some on their reappearance have. So although may progress a bit, personally I don’t expect masses of improvement from him.
