Im very interested in the odds for SA against the convicts…home and away
At a decent price, SA will be backable. Because of "the stats" there will be the usual drivel about Australia "not having lost a series since…blah blah"….But I welcome this, because that sort of thinking can nicely affect the price
Betting is obviously about the here and now and SA are a team on the up whereas Australia are fading.
Have been impressed with a number of their players and whilst there isnt a batting talent in Pontings or KP’s league in their line up, their mental strength, deteremination and consistency will serve them well
The bowling attack was a little overhyped but is progressing well. I think Morkel is a superb prospect and will be more dangerous still on the Australian pitches
August 12, 2008 at 17:18 #176834This South African team reminded me of the 89 Aussies, not the most talented ever, but prepared to battle and apply themselves. Nice mix of ages and experience too.
The Aussies have one or two problems. No spinner, no third seamer and an uncertain opening situation though I think Shaun Marsh will be one part of the solution for that.
Hopefully Smith will have learnt from his previous mistakes down under and do his talking on the pitch.
August 13, 2008 at 00:11 #176853If the Aussies have a problem with their spinner, I seriously worry about South Africa!!
Paul Harris is blatantly not international class – he managed to spin about 10 deliveries in the whole series!
I do think Morkel is quite exciting, be interesting to see how he matures. He’s very unflappable, like McGrath.

August 21, 2008 at 19:23 #177586Another ODI series is upon us and yours truly has the honour of being gifted a couple of Headingley tickets. The weather is set to be fair but i can’t say i’m looking forward to battling with the Leeds Festival traffic. I can see me missing the first couple of hours.
I am suprised to say i’m very upbeat about KP’s tenure. His decision to bring Shah up to bat at 3 i welcome, and the breaking news is that he’s brought in / convinced steve harmison to play ODI once more, in place of the injured Sidebottom.
Although i think that Steve Harmison has had plenty enough chances i’m still positive about the way KP seems to be managing him in showing he has plenty of confidence in him. Fingers crossed it goes well for them both.August 22, 2008 at 10:41 #177654i’ve backed Ian Bell to top bat in Eng’s 1st innings – I think he will open?
I’ve backed Kallis for SA – a possible revival of fortunes with the 1 day game….possibly!

Apart from vowing never again to sit in the west stand two things were blatant to me on the trip back from leeds. Firstly the conditions batting second, wether lights/dew or rain induced, definitly turned what were 1’s, 2’s and 3’s in Englands innings into 4’s for the South Africans. Making Englands win even more impressive.
Secondly, and more worryingly if you’re South African, was the reaction and body language they have against KP and Flintoff. It wasn’t induced but immediate, especially when batting. The presence they both had was like men vs boys which is suprising especially as they’re not short on big men themselves.August 27, 2008 at 14:46 #178355Interesting Roland.
I know SA had a "hangover" after securing the test series – but they really have to apply themselves before they’re on the plane home.
Eng did play very well in both games, but in the 1st match SA simply imploded imho.
Stuart Broad was a hero in the 2nd, but SA didn’t look to scrap it out, which is something you can usually count on them doing.
Be interesting to see if they turn up on Friday.
I’m sticking with Bellend to tap bat in Eng’s 1st innings – really not sure who to back for SA top bat??

September 3, 2008 at 22:25 #179240Simply cant wait for the winter series. Wonder if this could be the first real slippage in the oz crown. They werent totally convinsing against the windies and although SA have played without any spirit in these one dayers i do fancy their developing side to do rather well there
