I’ve seen this “Harry” behaviour in other forums it’s not an unusual situation, and always ends in threats, vieled or otherwise but one thing always works….
Every member agrees to ignore every post made by the infiltrator, nobody replies. In one forum every member was sent a private email politely requesting they do not reply to any such posts ….cormack?…and if they do, they risk exclusion (temporary or permanent) from the forum
Those who can start an argument in an empty room will soon tire of their own voice or will run out of isp adresses

Totally agree mate, was sent a rather peculiar email from Harry/Glenn, clearly not either of them.
Harry Findlay is a millionaire, a hugely respected man in Horse Racing, does
anyone think he’d waste his time giving inside info to people he doesn’t know from Adam? Pathetic.Oh, by the way, I’m on large!

It is being worked on.
Neither, of us can be on here 24/7.

Absolutely beyond belief!
God loves a tryer….
June 27, 2010 at 18:50 #303455Could it be Henry Rix next or even Thommo!!

Next thing we know he’ll be trying to use my tipping record on here to signup a few more mugs.
If he wasn’t such an obvious pratt I’d challange him to a tipping match
June 27, 2010 at 19:43 #303468Looking at what we can do on this. Tracking down the IP address to try and contact this person’s service provider(s).
June 27, 2010 at 21:24 #303498In the old days, prospective members used to have to provide their
bona fides
and could only post after being sent a log-in by post. I know that’s a pain in the neck, but I’d rather have less official members here knowing they all had genuine identities.

I like it, it’s an excellent idea.
That is, if it was 1926 & we posted our contributions in by telegram or carrier pigeon.
I think the best thing to do is what Cormack is doing. Track down the IP & have it blocked.

I actually remember having to write about why you like horse racing or is that another website? I think its a perfect tool to stop the eejits coming in and spoiling good debates with one word posts and making ir a trolling spree.

June 28, 2010 at 00:19 #303537I’m sure I have the original sheet of paper sent out by Debs nearly 8 years ago somewhere in my possession with my password and login details.
June 28, 2010 at 09:23 #303569I too was allowed to join the forum only after postal verification
A time consuming and somewhat costly job for the owner(s) maybe but does TRF really need 9473 members, the majority of whom don’t post anyway
I’d warrant that if the postal system was re-introduced you’d have a fraction of that number registered and a similar number of active posters, minus the spammers and the sad, mad, bad
Those who want to contribute in a constructive manner with no reason to hide their true identities and location would be quite content to provide details by post, while those who don’t won’t
This recent claptrap from ‘harry/glen’ is water off a duck’s back to me but it is annoying; more so to Cormack&Co I’d imagine, even more so than would be the rigmarole of licking stamps, perchance
If TRF wants to maintain its distinctiveness then why not include a distinctive registration process
June 28, 2010 at 13:30 #303595What I find weird is that as soon as a new person says that they are a professional punter, they immediately get attacked.
Why are they necessarily lying? There ARE people who are professional punters, and I know one personally.
From my own point of view, it doesn’t make any difference, as I like to pick my own losers. ie, it doesn’t matter to me whether they are lying or telling the truth, as I will generally ignore them, as well as ignoring the rest of you.
June 28, 2010 at 22:21 #303689Everyone –
Trying to keep the idiots off the site is difficult. It’s not really practical for us to send out letters to all new registrants – also banning IP addresses used to be quite effective but we’ve encountered a few problems last twice we’ve done that (i.e. we’ve banned the entire forum!)
We’re trying something else just now to see if it improves matters.
Thanks for bearing with us and a very big thanks to
Matron
who has been a brilliant help on the moderation side of things since I took over the forum. Very much appreciated.
